When Ozpin says, "Actually, you saved us," I don't think he's only speaking about being saved from death, but that Oscar made Ozpin realize that he had given in to fear as well, and that he had lost some of his own humanity and Oscar helped him regain it. What do you think?

That is certainly a great interpretation.
And without a single word for a volume and a half, Ozpin has developed as a character. He was just, afraid.

I think it was done for everyone. When he said a fear of something it showed a person that had that fear.
And after then when it says "can you forgive them" and it shows neo being angry I think that pretty much sets in stone that neo will defect from her current faction

A lot of people misjudged Ozpin because they expected him to be perfect but he's just as flawed and human as any of us and yet despite the odds he is still fighting for humanity

When I first watched the reaction to Ozpin not having a plan to win, the first thing that popped into my head wasn't any inane theory.
The first thing I thought was
"Damn, this guy has kept an immortal, virtual goddess at bay for thousands of years, alone. He has got to be the greatest hero of Remnant. Because even though he knew he couldn't win, he has delayed defeat for this long. Each generation that's lived since he broke from Salem has lived because of him. He has saved billions of lives, and remains thankless for the most part.
Because he is a hero."
Honestly I think this was a good way to reintroduce Oz

I *love* Ozpin’s monologue! Everything he says is... so true, even we’ve all been afraid of something-or someone. Yes, our fears can be big or small, but the most important thing to do when you’re afraid... is to recognize that feeling and never let it control you. *YOU* have the power to control it!

After reading that monologue. When it comes to the Tin Man, my answer is no.

Because in his mental state. He’s not even recognizable anymore, at least to Oz. Remnant should have been afraid of him from the start.

Legit every since watching the finale, I've been thinking about fear and how much it impacts my own life and as someone with anxiety and depression, it was eye-opening and frustrating to realize just how much it has effected and debilitated all of my actions. I almost cried listening to 'Fear' as it hit so close to home. Best Volume, Best Finale.

It's like V3 all over again. It was a loss for RWBY but they gained a new trump card waiting to be used. In V3 it was the introduction of the silver eyes. Here, it was the fact that they finally had Ozpin back, as well as a maiden (Penny) on their team.

@@wuttatota148 Ozpin did explain the relics to Salem in the flashback episode in Vol.6 so it's likely that she knows Jinn's name and might have told Cinder.
Just hearing Shannon McCormick speak one WORD made me tear up. His voice is the perfect combination of a warm hug, a cup of hot chocolate, and a fuzzy blanket.
And this is why he kept Salem a secret. He understood that sharing it with everyone, no matter how many people, no matter what positive message, it WILL cause panic, chaos and, yes, fear.
Now they know what’s it like to be in his shoes.
If Qrow never tipped Ruby off about Mistral after the fall of Beacon, Oz might still have all of his secrets.

If Qrow never told Ruby about Mistral, how would RNJR have known to go there? If they didn't go there, they wouldn't have met Oscar. If they never met Oscar, they wouldn't have been reunited with Ozpin and agreed to help him fight Salem. And then they wouldn't have gotten the lamp and learned his secrets, would they?
I guess but then wouldn’t Leo sorta capture team RWBY or lure them into a trap of some kind? Seemed that team RWBY and even Qrow weren’t able to get a clue on Leo’s betrayal which would’ve backfired them and who knows? they might’ve even lost the fight. After all it was with Ozpins help that they managed to bring Hazel down, he was the only one who knew Hazel’s Semblance and he seemed to put a lot of damage on Hazel too considering he and Oscar haven’t even fully merged yet and that Oscar still hasn’t discovered his Semblance or knew how to use Ozpin’s.
After watching this I am just now realizing how much I missed Ozpin.
I love this monologue! Ozpin's words sound so... simple, yet so true. Fear itself exists to test our courage, and the only way of showing courage is to face our fears, not hiding in the shadows of power and glory, like Ironwood is doing.
This always hits me hard whenever I listen to it. I don't know if it's the monologue itself, not having heard Ozpin's voice/missing him for over a year, or both.
Also, is it just me or does Oscar falling through the sky look REALLY satisfying/visually pleasing?

Fear might just be one's greatest ally.
It is when fear is used against you, that it becomes the enemy.
Think about it for a moment;
How many potentially dangerous or fatal things did you avoid doing, because you were too afraid of doing them?
Fear is dangerous yes. But only when you let it control you.
@@black97_0 No one's disputing fear has its uses, but when it comes to trust? Yeah Fear is Enemy #1. Don't try to rationalize using fear and showing trust, it won't work. Like trying to light a fire underwater. If you can't show some boldness in willing to trust another, fear will destroy any trust you have.

That was one of the most important and truthful monologues I've heard. I liked it that it was Ozpin who said it since he has the person how to understand fear the most.

A wonderful little monologue, and it fits perfectly with the themes of the volume. Mind you, here’s another fitting little description of fear.
“I know you’re afraid, but being afraid is all right. Because didn’t anybody ever tell you? Fear is a superpower. Fear can make you faster, and cleverer, and stronger. And one day, you’re gonna come back to this barn, and on that day, you’re going to be very afraid indeed. But that’s okay. Because if you’re very wise and very strong, fear doesn’t have to make you cruel or cowardly. Fear can make you kind. … It doesn’t matter if there’s nothing under the bed, or in the dark, so long as you know it’s okay to be afraid of it. So listen. If you listen to nothing else, listen to this: you’re always going to be afraid, even if you learn to hide it. Fear is like… a companion. A constant companion, always there. But that’s okay. Because fear can bring us together. Fear can bring you home. I’m gonna leave you something just so you’ll always remember. Fear makes companions of us all.”

It’s so good to have Ozpin back, even though he left on not good terms. He seems to have changed at least a little
Well, telling the truth about Salem to Ironwood helped to push him to those latest extremes, so probably feels good about being proven right ;p
Kidding, sadly, this shows seems determined to say that keeping secrets is wrong and stuff :/ Oh well, at least we get Ozpin back.

@@ensanesane Um, what "same" mistake? They told him the truth about Salem (eventually). They should have either told the truth from the start, or keep it secret (which is what Ozpin had done).
@@catxborsuq1 Yes the mistake for both of them was not telling the truth before.
If you uncover that your spouse is cheating on you, that's not the same as them telling you themselves even if either way you end up with the knowledge. It's a lot easier to forgive one than the other for the vast majority of people.
Anyone else's favorite character right now Oscar? At first he wasn't too great in V6- but V7 has been great for him.
I am more interested in what Oscar does next season than half of team RWBY.

My two favourite characters are still Weiss and Jaune, but Oscar is getting up there the more I watch him grow as a person.
Oscar/Ozpin, Watts, Neo and Tyrion are the only characters I find interesting anymore. All the others have just been wasted and to me are either bland, annoying, or a mixture of both.
This monologue is such a great summary of the season.
And also, that Ironwood scream though. I got chills.

He is kind of making people fight a war he is partly responsible for tbf. A war that took away their homes, their loved ones, their lives, their limbs. If you were in their shoes, it would be kind of realistic to be a hateful

Yes but you must remember Ozpin sacrificed a great portion of his magical power and divided it into four fractions which he gave to the original maidens as thanks. Thus when it comes to magic Salem has more as she is still at the same level as she was when the two originally fought (heck I think she actually got MORE powerful considering all the time and preparation she’s had. Coupled with the fact that her corruption from the pools of annihilation allowed her access to control Grimm her power is probably exponentially higher than it was before) and she’s pretty much the last living being from the Age Of Gods that has the power to use Magic in its full capacity so yeah. Unless Ozpin manages to regain his original power from the maidens I don’t see how he and Oscar would stand most of a chance against Salem. (Though to be fair it’s been stated that every living being has a semblance of some kind since semblances are extensions of the soul and are based on a person’s individuality and personality, and since Ozpin is technically the combination of all the likeminded souls he’s merged with he’s basically this crystallization of individuality thus making it so he’s probably got hundreds of semblances which might make up for the magic part)
I once saw a Tumblr post abt their potential reunion and it was basically what if the first and only thing Oz says to Salem is 'How could you murder our daughters?'

Am I the only one who listened to this monologue I see it as Ozpin explaining why he lies and did what he did. He's afraid. Plain and simple. He's lived for so long and he's afraid that he makes connections and has to care for humanity, he gets so afraid when they look to him as a leader. That is why he lies. He's afraid...

I also thinks it makes him just as human as anyone else, he's flawed and far from perfect. That's why I like Ozpin so much, he isn't an absolutely perfect person with no faults.

This is probably the realest thing I have ever heard in an animated show. I love RWBY been watching since the first episode came out. It's such a deep show with so many lessons to learn.

It's funny, the monologue is about fear and the song ’Fear’ comes out next.
Even funnier, they said the theme of this volume is supposed to be Trust and the opening song of the volume is Trust Love. Yet the title of Chapter 13 is 'The Enemy of Trust.' There was supposed to be trust between RWBY and Ironwood but RWBY's keeping secrets from him out of fear that he may overreact, and Ironwood's paranoia tore them down.
Wow that's crazy what a coincidence wow.
And then Volume 8 is all about the fear and conquering it
Is almost like they planned it beforehand, somehow.
Can I just point out how much this speech gave me chills??? I know that ozpin has made speeches like these before,but none of them gave me the sense of impact that this one did

i’ve been going through some stuff through the second half of 2019 and what oz said about fear is so true. i’ve seen fear and hurt completly destroy people around me and it’s scary to witness and not be able to do anything. the only thing you really can do is make sure your own fears don’t control you

What ozpin says about fear is so true because if you think about it fear impacts everything life, death everyone is scared of something we just have to make sure it doesn't get it's way and control us
My favorite Oz monologue. I don't know if this could ever be topped.... but we will see what Volumes 8 and onward bring us. 💜
Ozpin came back with some HEAT!
This monologue hit me harder than most of the story so far. The tone just makes me focus completely on the screen and forget what I was thinking about. The parallels to the narration from volume 1, as well as volume 3's end, brought back memories I had forgotten about. It also feels so much like those audio files from the game 'The Witness', which are very introspective and make you consider abstract concepts. I absolutely love it.
Ozpins voice makes me cryyyy and he is also my fave character
I wonder what Oscar's semblance would've been is Ozpin never became a part of him. Though he might not have bothered unlocking it anyway.

The story of Merry, The Coward
In every battle he ever fought, he was afraid. He was over come with an overwhelming feeling to run...and he did. Till the day everyone needed him, he wanted to run...but he didn’t. He stood and he fought and he died a hero. For his bravery in the face of the most terrible monster and against his own fear, his name was burnt into the stars and history.
He was a coward and afraid but in the end that didn’t stop him from saving the ones he loved.
This is one of the most eye opening things I have heard in a long time
RWBY does have some issues but it does have some of the best monologues and speeches I've ever heard especially from Ozpin and Salem
His voice makes my ears happy lol
You know what's great about this scene? Is that right after Ozpin says that last line, he then pauses and says "Oscar, I-" to which, Oscar interrupts him and says "All I want to know, is what we do next." It seems to me that Ozpin is finally apologizing for everything not just lying about Salem, but also leaving in the first place. But Oscar understands him now, and all he cares about now is how do they stop Salem from destroying Atlas.
Right up there with the Litany Against Fear:
"I must not fear.
Fear is the mind-killer.
Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration.
I will face my fear.
I will permit it to pass over me and through me.
And when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.
Where the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain."

I like that this doesn't just explain how the characters are feeling but that Ozpin ultimately is admitting that he too is afraid. But even more so, that this is speaking directly to us as well in the real world. Can't wait for more Ozpin next Volume
That's a damn good monologue
I love the monologues that get sprinkled in from time to time. To me it feels like it's a conversation between Oz and Salem on the nature of man, both the good and the bad with him defending humanity and her pointing out their flaws. I hope that by the end of this series we get another piece of real dialogue between them like in V1E1 as a way to put the discussion to rest.
