Killua Removes Illumi's Needle

- I'm left wondering how Killua knew Illumi had planted a needle in his head, especially when nobody had told him? If someone could explain this, I'd be happy to hear the answer. Either way intense moment.

@SeNpAi🥳 yes he shows so much more emotion when he spends time with gon thats so lovely
I like how illumi had LITERALLY drilled it into killua's head
Well he said that already 😂😂
Illumi probably drill it when he was a baby
I like this scene but I have questions/issues with the needle. Does it completely control Killua's actions when he's fighting a stronger opponent or does it just enhance the self-doubt and fear he would naturally have when fighting stronger opponents? Because if the former I feel the needle cheapens his whole character arc. I mean before his conflict was framed as his friendship with Gon vs his own self-doubt and fear that came as a result of his brother's influence which made it a psycological problem within himself he had to overcome. The needle changes the whole nature of his arc and instead makes the conflict his friendship with Gon vs literal mind control. So Killua's self doubt and fear were never his to begin with which makes his flaws feel like they aren't actually flaws just mind control. It's still cool that his friendship breaks the influence of the needle but I think it's way more impactful if he's overcoming his own flaws.
@@Rathadude the illumi needle only trigger once killua fighting strong opponent
@@Rathadude the needle is there basically to force him to think logically and act on fear in situations when he’s fighting a person noticeably stronger than him. illumi did this bc they all worried killua didn’t have the “assasin” mindset n would act based off of emotion
This is one of my favorite scenes in the anime. All this time Killua has hated himself for running away and abandoning Gon, but he finally realizes that it has been Illumi's needle that made him run. They brilliantly displayed the sense of freedom he has, at last he is no longer the Zoldyck heir, but instead the hunter Killua.
Did killua becam brav after removed the needles or coward
But doesn't the needle kind of cheapen his character arc? I mean before his conflict was framed as his friendship with Gon vs his own self-doubt and fear that came as a result of his brother's influence which made it a problem within himself he had to overcome. The needle changes the whole nature of his arc and instead makes the conflict his friendship with Gon vs literal mind control. When did he put the pin in? Because he wasn't like this before the chimera ant arc. He's always been annoyingly rude but in later scenes he seems to have become nicer. I would assume that's Gon rubbing off on him. The pin thing seems inconsistent with his character, and I'm not even a fan of him.
@@Rathadude I think the needle is a metaphor of how his family's ideals and desires are implanted in Killua, especially Illumi. It's like his big brother is always checking on him and telling him what is right and what is wrong. Then removing the needle is the way of getting rid of what his family expects of him (to be an assasin, to never get in danger) for what he wants, which is to be with Gon, and in this case for this to happen he has to fight stronger enemies (chimera ants) which he would never do before when he had Illumi's ideas (never fight a stronger opponent).
@@BlackWhiteCloud Yeah this is how I've come to perceive the needle. Unfortunately I've seen some people say it is just full mind control and use it to defend every bad thing Killua has ever done which just cheapens his character imo. Like the reason Killua forgetting about Alluka or Killua assassinating people being attributed to the needle is just stupid and I'm hoping that wasn't Togashi's intent behind it and that he intended it as more of a metaphor like you said.

@@Rathadude It probably acts as more of an enhancement of his current negative feelings, not mind control. Remember, his family sees him as the future head, so it makes twisted sense that they would plan something to keep him from getting killed. The more self-doubt he feels, the more the needle probably enhances it. Just like how it enhanced his fear and doubt of beating of Nobunaga when they got caught.
@@joevile240 That makes sense So the needle activated with Nobunaga too or was it only when he was hearing Illumi's voice telling him to run like when he fought Shoot?
@@Rathadude I think Illumi's voice is just a representation. Killua, I don't think, is actually hearing illumi so much as himself. Whenever he feels that intense self-doubt, he talks like he is arguing with himself, not illumi. We see illumi because it is the show telling us who caused Killua to think that way.
@@Rathadude I completely agree. The needle takes any semblance of character development out of a show with already minimal development. It’s really tragic

I figure he just "knew" the needle was there because he felt like his brother was brainwashing him in moments like this, like his thoughts weren't his own, but he never had a drive or reason to deny the thoughts he was being forced to have. Ghetto Anbu no he (killua) was only told to run when he thought he could lose I think, but I may be wrong
+Blakestar48 2 Pretty sure you're on the mark.
Ilumi's needle only affected Killua when he doesn't follow the rules of assassination that was taught in the family. They're rules along the lines of this:
• If you believe/assess that the enemy's power is strong and you could lose, run.
• only attack when you are sure you will kill them in one go.
or something like that.
That's why Killua was so conflicted because he knew that the enemy was strong and he could lose so Ilumi needle told him to run. Killua knows he had to run coz the rules were drilled into his body ever since he was born. But he couldn't/wouldn't because he knew Gon and Palm was gonna be the ones attacked if he ran instead of fought.
It's laughable at the same time that it is precisely because of Irumi's needle that he had trouble, and he killed it effortlessly in one shot once the needle was gone.
@@cincin366 Ironically enough even though the needle had been endangering killua by making him doubt his abilities which allowed enemies to take advantage of his hesitation, if it weren't for the needle telling him to run when pitou attacked kite he probably would have tried to help kite which would've gotten him and gon killed.

One of the main reasons why I love Killua so much. He's an assassin, and yet he's also the softest.
you are right! Gon is selfish. Leorio desires for money. Kurapika is selfish too. While Killua, he's willing to sacrifice himself for Gon and Gon could not even see it.
my point is compare to Killua, they were selfish. Killua is not like that. I still want to prove my point but i'm already too lazy to type.
Leorio needs the money for his medicine study. I would not call him selfish because he wants to become a doctor to help the poor people.
Comparing all 4 characters and calling anyone them selfish in comparison to others, seems odd as they each had different backgrounds/backstories, so i'd have to disagree as in their eyes they're doing what is best for them :) or so i see it that way
Nocturnal Grey I don’t even consider Killua an assassin anymore because he no longer kills just because he wants to. Like how he was in the beginning

I wonder how Killua would've been in the previous arcs if he didn't have that needle in him
He did have the needle in the previous arcs, I believe.
That’s why Killua always thought of Illumi when he fought an opponent.
He probably would have been more reckless but the thing is that in previous arcs, Killua didn't perform badly because of Illumi's needle, he did extremely well and showed his talent because he didn't have to face someone super strong like the chimera ants. He did show reservations with the Phantom Troupe, but that was Kurapika's business. However, in this one, he actually felt the danger they were facing and how it could cost his life or Gon's.
Nicole Pownall when did anybody say he didn’t have the needle?
He would have been dead.

This scene had me CRYING. Killua's development in this arc is just UNPARALLELED. It makes me wonder, though, why we don't really see Gon's thoughts toward Killua. Like we know Killua is Gon's best friend, but Killua has full breakdowns and always thinks about Gon whenever he's in danger or going to die. Would Gon do the same?
honestly gon was focusing on his mission so he started being selfish around the volleyball match. Gon always called killua his best friend but many times he thinks for himself and almost gets killua killed. I feel like gon would care for killua in this situation but killua acts very emotional for gon because gon is his first friend. He got too attached to gon during their time together. even tho i think gon still considers killua as his best friend, he doesn’t have as strong as a emotional attachment. Gon’s goal from the start was to find his dad and killua tagged along until he found a mission to do. Overall though, i think killua deserves more than what he’s getting out of the friendship.
@@paiimooo3188that’s kinda completely wrong

It’s vague in the anime and explained in the manga but Killua does explain it later in the anime:
Illumni’s spell is impossible to overcome with sheer will. The only way is to remove the needle, which is imbedded in the frontal lobe of the brain.
However, Killua’s strong will and wanting to protect his friend eventually started to localize where the sensation in his head was coming from. Like having a bad itch on your body at a small point under the skin.
So he found where what was causing that “itch” and found the needle, which then all made sense to him.
yes, one thing I love about HxH over other shounen series, is that, they never broke the rules they put in place, although they might add new, unexpected rules to nen. "In a manipulator battle, first come first served", so it would be impossible for Killua to fight the needle without removing it. Another cool thing in HxH, in almost all the fights, it was a clear winner from the beginning, no armor plot or close fights overcome by the power of friendship. Although I would admit that at times, Gon especially, got lucky that his opponents didn't want to kill him most of the fights.
It’s crazy he didn’t even know if it was a needle or not, coulda been ripping out a piece of his brain for all he knew 😂. Crazy

Togashi such a great writer. HXH is definitely a series worth watching twice, once to watch, another time to catch what you missed now that you can fill in the gaps. I remember when I first watched that scene where he was struggling with Nobunaga blocking the exit I was like "wtf what's up with him, dudes buggin. Looks like he's possessed", and now I realize it's all the needle. It was so completely unexpected TBH, but everything that happened in the series regarding Killua's character was in line with the needle's influence. Usually, you'll see the character suddenly and unrealistically triumph over deep emotional manipulation in a split second, but this gave a fresh spin. It was over in a split second without it being unrealistic.
O
This is funny because you have a Sailor Moon pfp
Honest to god i can’t watch it twice. At least not the Ant Arc. It will break me all over again. Even now as the arc replays in my head my heart still breaks
He is a great writer but after the ant Arc Hunter x Hunter started going down they started spreading the fight too long and losing our interest little by little and soon they just bored us because it was all the main point and yet 3 minutes of a fire has gone on for 18 episodes yes I've counted Hunter x Hunter will still be my favorite before the Antarctic because the storyline was amazing the idea was so unique and the characters were so vulnerable yet we feel connected to them and the last few episodes when he was about to Duo and his brother that was the best
hi ice cream ima eat u now all the other arcs were fast paced and more action packed, but Ant Arc had THE BEST character development of protagonists and antagonists I have ever seen! The fights were slow on purpose, I think it was written to get into the minds of these characters. I’ve never felt more sympathy for a villain before as I did to Meruem. That’s only my option of course, but that Arc was so good for me I don’t think I can watch it again because the feels would come back full force
Judging by the scene it looks like he could feel something everytime he tried to resist it. He probably just felt the needle
yes
trashofdespair to bad killua couldn't save rammot from the ants contral he had to kill his dearest friend in this scene
What lol?!
Basically. It happened every single time, and it was very clear. He probably figured it was more than just a memory of Illumi's lessons, but Illumi's actual influence. The stronger he got, he probably began sensing some weird nen in his head when he was at a heightened emotional state. He could NOT leave Gon behind. Also...
Illumi is fucking annoying as shit. Good character, but I hate him.
Well I think he started feeling it physically when he dissociated his own will from that 'instinct'. The more he tried to resist to it, the more it ached and he felt it was not just in his mind but in his head !
I love how much Killua cares about Gon it's so cute

It's such a relief to know that this issue u had was not an personal flaw but an invisible external obstacle that was creating stress and psychology pressure on Killua.
Knowing that you've been living your entire life on hard mode and with a flip of a switch, things are no longer difficult
The energy you were using to fight that battle can now be repurposed.
Killua's tendency towards Perfectionism made this the ultimate internal struggle.
Not knowing why you can't do something is so frustrating.

But... but... You didnt really know what's behind those thong. Kappapride
the very thing you just described is the reason that it IS a cartoon. Nothing like this could be portrayed in live action.
@@powpowouchy5 not in comparison of live action ofc. Noone mentions that here it is beteren anime n normal cartoons usually not this crazy
i really love his character sm, he deserves everything!!
No he doesn’t
I think the way Illumi planted the needle into Killuas forehead is when he hypnotized him during the last part of the Hunter exam where he got manipulated and got sent back to home.
ep 94 for thoes who are here looking.
I love you ❤

He fight with his fear because he love gon so much and he wants to protect gon. This fact always make me cry.
This OST made the scene even more epic.
Anter I want to know too.
It's "Reason" Instrumental, HxH Ending 3

This is the moment where I absolutely fell in love with Killua's character
This is such a beautiful representation of overcoming familial trauma/dysfunction, Killua is the best
Killua is the most dynamic character of the entire series thus far, and my fave character. I like Gon, but Killua is so much more realistic as a person. He's strong, confident (for the most part), comes from a wealthy and powerful family, astute, talented both as a NEN practitioner and as an assassin, but yet his humanity along with all its insecurities are still very present. To watch as Killua learns to nurture his humanity, while at the same time struggling against this same very human insecurities, makes for some truly powerful moments on the show. He not only matures as fighter thus far but also as a human being, and by doing so he demonstrates why he is by far, the most humanly relatable character on the show. When it comes to depth, Gon has nothing on Killua. Gon is fun to watch, but Killua is not only fun to watch, but so intriguing as person, and he makes me want to root for him more than anyone else. I think Gon is the least dynamic Character on the show. He's so one dimensional, but considering his family situation, he could've had so much more depth to him. His lack of character development given the ripe opportunity, is the biggest waste of the show, in my humble opinion that is :)
@5th Round Lawler yeah man, you can't say he's the most depth character also you got a point Gon is one of the best if not the complete best child depicted in anime
@ZeroOne46 You're crazy if you think Gon lacked in character development. Did you not see his breakdown when he came face to face with Pitou? The Chimera Ant Arc really changed Gon and to see him breakdown like that was the most realistic parts of the show because he goes from being a sweet innocent boy to full on revenge mode and even to go far as to killing an innocent person. He went through the stages of grief : Denial, Anger, Bargaining, Depression, Rage , and Acceptance. Him yelling at Pitou and the hurt in his voice send chills down my spine. Btw the voice actor did a phenomenal job.
Jordan M. Exactly. These killua dick riders are too much. They’re equal.
@Lilika I agree 100% They're development was equal
there is nothing wrong with gon's personality he is just too pure and innocent to the point that he looks inhuman all ur talk is about ur preference not the reality u need to understand that and it is really stupid for u to expect all the main characters to be the same u need to accept the differences between peoples personalities gon lives in a real healthy environment and he is simple person ( that's why he is an Enhanced) and he is too straightforward unlike killua who lived in a very toxic family this is why he has a huge insecurities but even gon has one though he thinks that he is really week and if u think that someone as pure as gon is not worth then u have some problems and u like the drama there is nothing Wrong with " a no drama personality " ( well going as far as dying for his friends isn't a feature of so one dimensional person -_-)
Whenever Killua cries I cry bc he’s never really emotional and it hits diff when he cries😭
Sometimes I feel gon does not know what killua has done for him and even though I know that their friendship is the most wholesome thing gon doesn't understand killuas pain
Every time killua is sad or distressed it’s cause of Gon but he would never let Gon see him like in this scene. Gon has cried in front of Killua and always expressed his feelings to him through words but killua doesn’t much
That ant literally has a string on💀💀
Basically another scene where he confesses his love
Rener Oslo exactly, can’t stand the fangirls
Rener Oslo okay chill.
When you never said it wasn't platonic and people do this 🤭🤭🤭
Me: yeah so killua loves Gon, definitely. Via the Japanese hidden meanings and the author's tendancy to make lgbt characters, it's likely it's romantic, but that doesn't close off platonic, or even unconditional lov-
Y'all: OmG cHiLL hE DoEsNt nEeD sExuALiSiNg

meadbh corbett “basically another scene where he confesses his love” you could’ve worded that differently if you wanted to but you didn’t because you know damn well what you were implying.
now i wanna binge Hunter X Hunter again. who else is with me?
Seth Radford I'm already on the run bro XD Don't worry I'll wait😂
I want to now lol but netflix got RID OF IT TvT i have been slowly going insane lol.
+Army and Artist i would use crunchy roll but the ads are unbearable
Guys just use kissanime, man!
@@JanDareen I used kissanime, but I cant watch it when my mom's around, cuz she doesnt approve of the show. Hisoka and that one fighting tower arc ruined it for her lol
Killua is hurt = *no big deal*
Enemy within 10 mile radius of Gon = *_REAL SHIT_*
And the greed island leitmotif starts slowly playing, the song that best represents Gon and Killua's friendship as they grew toghether in the game. Just beauiful
Killua keeps making me cry
FATE the book of true love im only 10
@Yui Shikari you are not alone at crying
haikyuu matches keep making me cry along with koro sensei's death
Gon and palm having a datewhile killuas just having a mental breakdown
Bungee gum has has properties of both rubber and gum
get yourself a friend like Killua and you know they'll always have your back
Sometimes I wonder how HxH characters can just stand still and not panic when there's blood flowing out of them. Like Killua is just like *SHOVES HAND INTO FOREHEAD AND PULLS OUT A NEEDLE AND BLOOD GOES EVERYWHERE* then just stands there like it's a thing he does everyday 😂😂😂
adrenaline is one hell of a drug my dude
some people fall off the second floor all the way to the entrance and are able to run a marathon afterwards
Lol but he did rip out that one guy's heart
The thing with his Nen type is that you have to be able to effortlessly imagine in your head what you want to produce. He's been tortured, brutally, so much that recreating the feeling of electricity just comes naturally to him. He could probably do the same for toxins or knives or any other torture device.
Im pretty sure Killua was tortured regularly before the hunter exam even happened, as to train him as an assassin or something like that.
And, going through all the stuff up to this point, im pretty sure a needle wouldn't phase him.
Tbh, it's Killua we're dealing with here, so...yeah
ゴンとキルアの友情ほどいいものはない。めっちゃ泣ける

"Gon is... Run." Ah yes, my favorite line.
This arc gave Killua a great development
Why is it when Gon’s _not_ there, Killua’s having a mental breakdown?
Gon went on a date with Palm
Which nen, which ren, which gyo, da power of friendship Bro, is the strongest.

Damn the way Gon and Killua's personalities' kinda switched by the end with Gon decking Nefer Pitou and Killua becoming much more like Gon (initially) is just beautiful
*"Gon I will Protect You Because We're Friends You're my dear friend! I don't wan't to lose him! Gon is my Dear My very dear... friend!"*
Killua's been through so much pain and handles it so well...but losing Gon would be the worst pain he's ever felt
The way Killua said " because we're friends " really touching
I love how it says “run” and the beat comes I mostly like the song
