The reason Gon and Killua have great chemistry (apart from being young and befriending anyone their age) is because Gon's morals aren't in black and white like that of most protagonists. His goal is to find his dad, not to be strong to save people. Killua didn't think he could ever make real friends because he was an assassin and not everyone would take that lightly. It's great how they push each other to be stronger, but in a friendly competition sort of way. It's refreshing and we can focus on the plot instead of the turmoil inside the characters' mind.

well not really the last arc they had together was pretty unresolved what with gon freaking tf out over kite and completely seperating himself and kite from killua, causing both of them to go into a really bad direction which if not for palm short circuiting would have left them both dead. and all of that went completely unresolved apart from that little moment where its really downplayed at 8:11 .

Watching this with the context of Killua's life up to the point that he met Gon... it makes those early moments even more adorable. Just think about how Gon is Killua's first real friend. Not just one his age, but the first PERSON he ever knew who just saw him as a kid and wasn't afraid to play with him, even after seeing his strength and willingness to kill firsthand. DIRECTLY after seeing him rip out a heart, Gon is playfully having a pillow fight with him. Gon just sees Killua and accepts all of him without question or judgement. Yes, Killua is an amazing friend and does a LOT for Gon throughout the series, but I think people forget that Gon basically gave Killua his first taste of pure friendship. Killua is the one who decided then and there to use his immense strength to help and protect Gon, instead of just for himself and his family like he'd been taught. He is trying to repay Gon for everything he did for Killua, even without knowing what an impact he had. I hate when I hear people say that their friendship was onesided and that Gon didn't care. Their relationship is absolutely amazing and I watched this video with the biggest grin possible at how happy they are together. They do so much for eachother and I'm gonna tear up.
How endearing, two little geniuses being friends. Kids of genetic elites becoming the original Power Duo. SOULMATES. I mean what's the odds??? For killua to run away from home and bump into gon almost right away--who, probably, the only kid his age of the same caliber. How endearing??? If they don't meet at the exam, killua might be wandering the world alone for years and years, never finding anybody interesting enough for him to stick with. Instead by some sick miracle, he finds gon. I don't think I'll ever shut up about this.
I find killua and gons frienship as the best anime friendships ever, alongside with Fairy Tail characters, but thats different. Those boys, they have such a crazy connection between them, it is almost scary how they can trust each other, understand and accept. They are the true friendship goals.

actually it was translated poorly. what gon meant was that the fight against pitou was *his* fight, not killua’s. since gon and kite are connected, not kite and killua. so in a way he’s protecting killua from getting injured. it still had quite the impact though. killua wanted to help gon just like gon has helped him, so that’s why it hit so hard. also the fact that he was most likely going to lose his best friend.
I love how Killua is like "This box must be special, if it was just made of steel I would be able to break it no problem," and Gon nods like "That makes sense."
I mean, the kid can open the gate to his house which weighs TONS of kg, even Gon can only open 1 and that’s with the help of Kurapika and Leorio so yes it made sense lol
I love how people find it a bit strange that these two instantly became friends as soon as Gon reveals his age to Killua. To be fair though, kids their age tend to have an easier time making friends than teens and adults do. These two are seriously one of my favorite adventuring buddy duos next to Finn & Jake.

I had a friend like that. Met them beside the road and became really good friends since (Idk why I started a conversation with them, it was really random). We had really good dynamics almost similar like Gon and Killua, we could even play duet on piano for competitions. :)
I think thats what makes them the best of friends. Rivalry is what alwyas shown in the anime, it always hate before loved so friendship like this is very rare and somehow unique and natural. I lobe hxh because if this duo no one can beat this kind of friendship.

This is the reason why this anime grew so much in me. They promoted friendship instead of romance between MCs which most shows (not just anime) do. They showed how a friendship should be, how friends treat each other, that no matter how flawed you are, there are people who will accept you.

Friendship and romance can very thin line but I always love friendship better. In these days, people dont appreciate friendships as much. Togashi's previous work Yu Yu Hakusho also emphasized on friendship and comraderies which was really nice too. Similar to family bond which i find it extremely precious like how killua dotes on his lil bros. I want this story to end with their friendships but at last, who am I to stop the shippers...
This is why this show is so impactful. Killua already knows the brutality and horror of the world they live in and Gon is his light. Only until later does Gon learn the hard way that this world can be evil and unforgiving, something which Killua tried distracting himself and Gon from throughout the whole series with their friendship

Killua is the best edgy character i've seen in anime. Assassin family, gifted in killing, tortured and trained, fought in the underworld, can threaten and randomly kill along with his own sad past. Yet he never has a frown or look forward into an abyss. He's just gleefully glaring forward and is naïve as a genuine kid while also being a great friend. He's also very engaged in keeping his only friendship and it's what I love about him. Any other anime would've made him like Sasuke or isolated but he's very open and caring while playful and always learning. Kurapika is what he could've been written as or some emotionless blank stare who has to learn to open up a little more. But no he's a kid and he enjoys playing as he should be.

Its not friendship.... in spite of how different their personalities are I am still tempted to say it... They are one person. Its impossible to have a friendship this good. This is the only anime like this. They never fought against each other or have been rivals. There was no "he is my enemy" arc where Gon turns Killua into a good guy.... nope.... they just kinda met and boom.
don't care what anyone says, their friendship was pure. People can say that they were toxic and their friendship was never healthy, but I couldn't disagree more. They were just two kids who went through a lot of stuff.. Gon found someone that would always be there for him, even when he made stupid decision. Killua found someone that would love him for who he was, despite the shield he put up. They did everything together, and they were always there for each other. It didn't matter the cost or the consequences, they never gave up on one another. And it breaks my heart that it was best for each other to separate, because in the end they needed to go on their own and find news paths.. Killua finally found his purpose, and Gon finally found his father.. I hope one day their paths realign
Illumi wore very different clothes multiple times too. I think he wears the green suit only when he has to come around Killua or dress up as Gittkrakur because of some impression thing.
fr though they perfectly compliment each other, Killua couldn't have found any other friend like Gon ever - the moment he saw him he knew that this kid would pass through their family's 7 gates of hell and sht just to see him again. I also applaud Killua for telling his brother in such a vulnerable state that the reason he wanted to become an hunter is because he wants to continue his friendship with Gon. Instead of feeling shy or embarassed he told them openly. Loved that scene. They deserve each other so much
It's preferential in the Japanese language/customs (from what I've learnt after being taught) that young men/boys use boku instead of ore since boku is a "general use" term for introduction, whereas boku is sexist and aimed towards use from men, and when boys use it, they are trying to sound manly/show off. However, when girls use boku, it makes them sound like tomboys. Little piece of Japanese trivia that I'm sure no self respecting sexist anime lover would care to know but imma just put that out there :D

Watching this with the context of Killua's life up to the point that he met Gon... it makes those early moments even more adorable. Just think about how Gon is Killua's first real friend. Not just one his age, but the first PERSON he ever knew who just saw him as a kid and wasn't afraid to play with him, even after seeing his strength and willingness to kill firsthand. DIRECTLY after seeing him rip out a heart, Gon is playfully having a pillow fight with him. Gon just sees Killua and accepts all of him without question or judgement.
Yes, Killua is an amazing friend and does a LOT for Gon throughout the series, but I think people forget that Gon basically gave Killua his first taste of pure friendship. Killua is the one who decided then and there to use his immense strength to help and protect Gon, instead of just for himself and his family like he'd been taught. He is trying to repay Gon for everything he did for Killua, even without knowing what an impact he had.
I hate when I hear people say that their friendship was onesided and that Gon didn't care. Their relationship is absolutely amazing and I watched this video with the biggest grin possible at how happy they are together. They do so much for eachother and I'm gonna tear up.

How endearing, two little geniuses being friends. Kids of genetic elites becoming the original Power Duo. SOULMATES. I mean what's the odds??? For killua to run away from home and bump into gon almost right away--who, probably, the only kid his age of the same caliber. How endearing??? If they don't meet at the exam, killua might be wandering the world alone for years and years, never finding anybody interesting enough for him to stick with. Instead by some sick miracle, he finds gon.

I find killua and gons frienship as the best anime friendships ever, alongside with Fairy Tail characters, but thats different. Those boys, they have such a crazy connection between them, it is almost scary how they can trust each other, understand and accept. They are the true friendship goals.

This is why this show is so impactful. Killua already knows the brutality and horror of the world they live in and Gon is his light. Killua is the best edgy character i've seen in anime.
Assassin family, gifted in killing, tortured and trained, fought in the underworld, can threaten and randomly kill along with his own sad past.
Yet he never has a frown or look forward into an abyss. He's just gleefully glaring forward and is naïve as a genuine kid while also being a great friend. He's also very engaged in keeping his only friendship and it's what I love about him.
Any other anime would've made him like Sasuke or isolated but he's very open and caring while playful and always learning.
Kurapika is what he could've been written as or some emotionless blank stare who has to learn to open up a little more. But no he's a kid and he enjoys playing as he should be.

don't care what anyone says, their friendship was pure. People can say that they were toxic and their friendship was never healthy, but I couldn't disagree more. They were just two kids who went through a lot of stuff.. Gon found someone that would always be there for him, even when he made stupid decision. Killua found someone that would love him for who he was, despite the shield he put up. They did everything together, and they were always there for each other. It didn't matter the cost or the consequences, they never gave up on one another. And it breaks my heart that it was best for each other to separate, because in the end they needed to go on their own and find news paths.. Killua finally found his purpose, and Gon finally found his father.. I hope one day their paths realign
