I have one of these. My great aunt gave it to me when I was very young. I played with it then, painted it, lost some parts, and then it sat on a shelf in the garage for about 40 years. Last summer I restored it. Luckily parts are available.
Amazing how much this toy was built like the real thing; full frame, leaf springs, steering, etc. Like the color choice of British Racing Green. I would add red paint to the tail lights and off-white to the parking lights… but that’s my OCD kicking in! 😉. Nice job. ~ John
Sir, I've NEVER left any negative comments on your site...BUT...this is my first. Your workmanship is without question the best I've seen. As is your paintwork. Never-the less, I cannot comprehend why you chose this !!!!GOD-AWFUL!!!! color for your perfectly beautiful restoration of this very rare, classic 50's Doepke Jaguar XK120. Perhaps you were attempting a British Racing Green?? If so, you didn't achieve that color. In my humble & respectful opinion, this XK120 deserves a respray; with a clear-coat as well. No disrespect intended. Kind regards, Ben
It's a beautiful model. And I even like the color - Brittish Racing Green. It would be cool to get a full size 120 and have custom tire made that say Doepke on them. That joke would work on so many levels. Great restoration job.
@@Emdee5632 With all due respect, the green color on this Jaguar XK120 is not "British Racing Green". OK, it's kinda' close...BUT...it has too much "blue" in the mix to qualify as BRG. This restoration needs stripped, a primer coat & a color-correcting respray. Best regards, Ben
suprised it doesn’t have a little V12 in there, along with a transmission, driveshaft, and all the controls. Most of it is there, I bet you could easily modify it into a running car (just obviously massively scaled down)
So, to all of those who left disparaging comments, kiss off! A restoration of any object is a personal approach to a passage of time to entertain or stimulate one’s own imagination, or passion. No one cares about your thoughts or opinions. Get over yourself. The person who takes the time to share his story with you and everyone who watches should be respected for just that. I for one appreciate the time and effort that went into this restoration and that it was available for me to enjoy.
Charles Doepke made some of the most well built toys of the time. The only problem was that they were extremely expensive. Doepke was not in the toy business for very many years, so they are very valuable and hard to find parts for.
Great build. My fav color is blue but you picked the right color for this car the green is jaguars best look especially the yr that this car is supposed to mimic im not a big fan of this older tin cars but i do like this one great vid
Given this was all screwed together rather than riveted, makes me wonder if it was made as a home assembly kit? Certainly makes stripping it down easier than rivets or twisted metal tangs.
It was a kit… I built one of these (same color) in about 1957 or 58… Very well designed, and lasted for years of ‘abusive playing’. I lost track of it about 20 years ago- I believe one of my brothers still has it.
@Bill White I had both the MG and the Jaguar…. Looking back, I wish I had treated them better, but, to an 8 yr old kid, they were toys- very nice toys, but still toys. One of my brothers still has both of them…
Overall a very good work, the only two things that leave me slightly puzzled regards the body color and the screws. I mean you did a really good work, but the screws would have benefited from better restoration work and above all a new plating imho, they leave a poor impression when compared with the overall restoration. The body color, honestly I would have preferred if you had left the pastel blue, nothing to say about the English green, but it is so ordinary that it mortifies the beautiful line of the car, but it is my personal opinion, I congratulate you because the work you have done is really beautiful.
Agreed. Makes it look too new anyway. and aswell, you wouldn’t be able to play with it without damaging it, and that goes against the whole purpose of the thing.

Love old car designs! So smooth and curvy! Absolutely Incredible stuff! 👍🏻beautiful shade of green!
Neat! I really like how that thing is built! Lots of screws instead of metal tabs bent over.
Yeah, back in the day, this was a child’s toy. If it came out today, it’d be an adult collectible.
@@ForDemoPurposesOnly and now children’s toys are... they are literally fidget spinner’s and stuff like that lol.
Thank you SO much for repainting it a sensible British racing green colour! 🇬🇧
A very nice job on this joe diy 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Beautiful job, you're an artist. I like these genuine restoration videos.
Love jaguar

Amazing, wonderful

I quite like the larger scale toys; few restorers tackle that size.
The paint colour looks great; so much better than the light blue original!
That particular shade and hue is called ''British racing green''.

Very cool looking toy well done.
Well done on magnificent restoration for such pretty rare model and the way you done it good luck
The way it was built i was suprised the tires didnt have tubes in them.
It’s so realistic.

I never heard of Doepke until now. That is a fantastically built and engineered toy. They must have been top end in their day.
Great resto of a nicely detailed model!!
Beautiful
Very nice work 🤠 very cool car as well 🤠 nice 👍 Lee
That was definitely built to last!!👍
All those screws, instead of pop rivets and cheap spot welds!!💯
Nice job. Working rear suspenttion!
FYI, inspired by the 1940 BMW 328 Streamline roadster

Beautiful and classy restoration. Looks amazing!👍👍
I think I had one of these as a hand me down, repainted red with numbers on the doors making it a race car.
Well done Joe! An amazing restoration of a fine automobile. Those were classy cars for sure.
Thanks for posting. Love your videos.
Wow what an inventory of parts!
Great Work!! I love how big it is and how it’s built!!! Awesome Job 👍😁
Great restoration
FUN FACT! this car actualy appeared in an episode of "Gumby" called "Toy Joy". Great work on restoring the car btw!
Beautiful restoration! Those Doepke models are really high quality.

Interesting color choice! Maybe paint the rear lights! Wonderful job on the chrome!
Классный мастер!!! Работа в его руках спориться !!!! Успехов!!!! Жалко, что в моем детстве не было таких интересных игрушек.
Such well made toys and all built in the US. Beautiful restore.
Great job! My gentleman friend had one of these. I mean the real thing,- years ago. His was white . How could I ever forget that?

Kick ass!😎👍
Turned out good. Cool looking toy too
Wow. I have never seen so many screws in a toy. Great job. It looks awesome. 😊❤ 🇺🇸
Greetings buddy, beautiful restoration👍👍
Well made item
Good video
I had an exact car like this one (don't know but it could have been mine) about 65 years ago !
You should add this one to your merchandise line!!!
The only thing it needs are wire wheels with knock-off hubs.
This thing looks like it'd be a blast as an RC, bet it'd be a bit weird to convert tho
Looks amazing, but I would have white walled the tires, but thats something I like lol
Consider polishing the screw heads next time. Nice work.

Amazing upload! keep it up! Well done!
Wow, this thing is so cool, I wonder what other toys this company made. Beautiful job on the resto!
I have an MG TD from them.
God job joe
My uncle had a real one ,never restored. Memory lane
excelente trabajo y hermoso juguete solo le falto colocarle color a las luces traseras con un pincel le pondria color cromo y rojo .
Great! Don't forget to paint the rear and side lights.
Should make this an RC
The screw heads would look better if they were polished. Nice job on the car.

Good my friend 🌺🌺❤❤
What a fantastic piece of mechanics ! How many assembly screws in total ? This toy must have cost a fortune to produce !
Damn you, now I want one. Lol nice job

i would have painted the seats tan to go with green paint
Not crazy about the color, I think original was better but still cool. I like that it had screws.
Thing actually has leaf springs
Great ❤
Прикольный модель я так называю лучше магазиных
Nice job the 1st blue painting was better dont add to much fantaisie to your Nice job keep the original spirit
Super bro
Hey, nice work.
But why not polishing or painting the screws too?
My thought exactly!
It would be really good if it's turned into a remote control car
Dommage, elle était mieux en bleu, mais très intéressante miniature avec toute les pièces vissées !
Belle restauration !
Perfeito ☺️😍👍
The question is should you restore it, I'd prefer it play worn, and keep it's value
Agreed. Makes it look too new anyway. and aswell, you wouldn’t be able to play with it without damaging it, and that goes against the whole purpose of the thing.
Nice restoration however it lost alot of its value in the process
Windscreen seems a bit overly bent back especially on the right side but otherwise a bonza renno...
