No, no, no: the Luca Brasi scene at Connie's wedding wasn't meant to imply that Brasi was some speechless oaf. First of all, that scene was completely real, ie, it was the actor, Lenny Montana (who had been an actual mob enforcer/bodyguard as well as pro wrestler) nervously practicing his dialogue, and Coppola decided to keep it in the film because it underscored how respected and feared Don Vito was. Second, in the book, it's made plain just why Brasi was so feared (chopping up two of Al Capone's goons with an axe); he certainly wasn't just some brainless goon.
He was a psychopath, that's why he was feared. The whole reason he was loyal to Vito was because Luca forced a woman to throw his newborn child into a furnace at gunpoint. Then was arrested a week later for murdering the child's mother. The woman who was forced to kill the child felt safe enough to tell Vito what really happened and Vito had the charges dropped knowing a man willing to murder his own child was a man willing to do anything, and winning that loyalty would be priceless. Although the man disgusted Vito.

Bro you have no idea how happy you made me by releasing this video. I absolutely loved this game on my PS2 and played it to absolute death when I was a kid. Seeing this after so many years makes me wanna take out the old thing and boot it. Last I played it was a few years ago on the 360 and 100% that shit. I have to say you're kinda hard on the game. Not mentioning the bank heists, the family compound fights and the drug house racket shutdown is an absolute sin. Man I miss this game. I always wanted to try godfather 2 about never got around playing that one. I think it's time
3 years after San Andreas they really have no excuse for how lifeless and samey the city environment turned out to be. That being said, I had mad fun strangling business owners playing it on PS2 back in the day.
This game was absolutely amazing and not only covered the details from the movies extremely well but from the books also. I still have my ps2 copy and boot it up to play through sometimes and it still is amazing.
I played the game on PS2, until I came to a weird car chase where basically any mistake would make you lose the mission. It felt a bit like the train chase in GTA:SA. After many many tries I still couldnt beat the mission and gave up on it. Maybe I should try again.
5 years later finally a response. I actually gave up on that train chase 4 years later I came back to it and I beat it in 10 attempts practice and patience and growing older and wiser is key bro
From what I remember, in the Blackhand edition, you can have one follower bodyguard, and eventually unlock the hit man crew which was like 3-5 guys that also follow you around, until they eventually pass lol.
As a lifelong Godfather fan, I was very very pleasantly surprised by the game. Not only did it have several of the actual stars reprising their roles, it tied itself into the main narrative in a really skillful and seamless way, actually filling in some blanks from the film: who took care of the scumbags who dishonored Bonasera's daughter? How did they get the horse's head into Jack Woltz's bed? Who actually killed Tessio, and how?, etc.
luca wasnt shown to be unintellible in the movie it was to show how a person of his stature in size and how feared he is an a soldier is even nervous talking to don corleone

I def like Mafia better as a game. Found them stark contrasts. Godfather seemed based around the repetitive gameplay of smashing and buying up shops, then having shootouts to protect them, with a sort-of story in the background. In Mafia, every mission was motivated to progress the story, was novel from the ones before (even if there was several shoot-all-the-people-who-shoot-at-you missions) and just seemed to want to bring that era to life. The car bonus missions were the only part that seemed a little tacked on. Only, with such designed missions, I wish there was more of it. Mafia 2 felt like they tried to bridge the gap between the two games. Nowhere near as fun. Never finished.
Not everything needs to be a video game and i stand by that strongly but man, that godfather game was something different back in an era when GTA and rockstar were dominant with San Andreas. This game is underrated
Did you ever check out US Gold's Godfather game for the Amiga? Absolutely beautiful looking game, looks more like a high end indie game, but it plays a bit crap.
This is one of my favorite games of all time I remember countless hours sitting in front of the monitor absorb in to the crime world of The Godfather, thanks minimme for reviewing this ❤️ (sorry for my english)
There's a line in Frankie's initial dialogue that I still consider the single best exchange I've ever heard in a video game, and as good as most films: "You know, we should probably..." "No. No, we shouldn't. But we will."
I adored this game. I was probably like 12 when I finally got it, like the scarface game it was one of those forbidden fruits that I somehow managed to get my hands on. It's hilarious though, the cutscenes are basically 'it's the godfather....but your OC is just kinda shoehorned in there'.
At least i don't think this game got as weird in adapting it's story from the movie as From Russia With Love did, that game pretty much tried to have a action packed story adapting it from a spy thriller along with classic bond's aesthetics that weren't introduced at the time
This game is easily in my top 10 ps2 games ever. And believe me, I played a lot of good games on ps2. I played The Godfather like at least 5/6 times from beginning to end. That's how good it was.
I look at it from the opposite perspective. I love that you’re the driving force behind the action! I’ve replayed it a thousand times trying to beat it a different way each time! This game and NCAA Football 14 is the only reason I still have my PS3!
Okay but this game was great, you could rob banks, you could take over compounds, there was always something to do that wasn't a mission and even then the missions were so thrilling like carrying the horse head through the house
12:25 and 12:36 Fake news, you can do that in the Wii version too, I know that because I used to play it all the time. So it isn't a PS3 exclusive. I think you can also do that in the PC version too, but I might be wrong.
"Make a game based on the Warriors, imagine that..." With it being made by Rockstar and not only a good ass game with solid combat, letting you play through the movie, being a prequel to the movie, and giving you character backstories on how each one joined the Warriors, yeah imagine that.
It's kind of weird how he didn't touch on the music of the game at all, it's absolutely astounding and it has the same composer as the man who did rocky and the karate kid.
Such a good game. You didn`t even mention that you could rob banks by blowing up the comically large vault door conveniently placed behind the bank teller out front. Or that you could raid the enemy compounds with hundreds of enemies and wipe them out. Suspend your disbelief and just enjoy this game because it is at least better than modern movie tie ins.
This game was actually one of if not my favorite open world ps2 game tied with gta sa and the combat in this game in my opinion is some of the best feeling and unique combat systems I've seen especially considering the single target melee combat that used analog sticks to fight but I really enjoyed how the fighting felt
My dad, who I had never seen play a video game other than Age of Empires 2, picked this game up one night after watching me play it. I showed him how to start a new save file, gave basic instructions, then went off to bed. The next morning I woke up to find him having not slept, still glued to the TV. His infatuation went on for a few weeks. My older brother reminds me every so often of the time he got a call while at work from my dad, who wanted to know how to throw a shopkeeper in an oven. My dad died 2 years ago, and this game brings back fond memories. My bro and I still remind each other about it every so often. Thanks for the video.
This was one of my favorite games on the PS3, after a long time searching for this game I found a copy on some dodgy website and I bought it again. Brought back so many memories, I believe I 100% it in like 2 long ass days back last year. Loved the fact that you had to holster your weapons in public (I had never seen that before back then) and the whole taking over NYs boroughs from other families really gave me flashbacks from GTA San Andreas with the whole turf war going on. The atmosphere is pretty good, it really is a great homage to the movie. After seeing this in my recommended vids I'm so ready to sneak back into those compounds once again.
You should definitely make a video on the sequel. I think it does some interesting things, even if the game feels super dated now and was also a bit dated when it came out
It clearly felt like a paycheck job unlike the original. Tho im glad they never bothered making one of the third movie (the mixed last entry in this great series that gets really kind of bonkers at the end)
The funniest thing is if you complete the side missions before completing the main game, if you control all of new york and then finish the final mission, you go through the cutscene where Michael is welcomed as the new don of the family, only for it to cut to you sat at the chair and everyone hailing you as the don of new york in the very next scene in the exact same room, almost like you just shot Michael, took his chair and everyone's cool with it.
i absolutely loved this game growing up and actually really enjoyed how it tied into the film and showed a lot of what was going on in the background in the film and im one of those believers that games should be more fun then just an interactive film like i felt mafia was and i thought that as a mob movie buff i would have loved it and though the story was good that was the only reason i finished it imo the gameplay wasnt fun by any means and the added realism like traffic tickets, speed limit, and quick deaths all took more away from the experience then added to it and felt the game was totally unenjoyable bc of it
Oooh, I remember this game. I remember my older cousin playing it, way back when. It looked cool as heck, cause it was like, GTA, but it's wasn't GTA. Being a kid, I didn't know anything about The Godfather at the time, other than it was a movie, so I was really interested. I wanted to play it myself ever since that day, just never got around to. I played a bit (literally like, first 40 minutes) of the second game, and it was alright, too.
How is this game weird, obscure or a tie-in? It's a pretty standard open world loose adaptation of a film that had come out more than 30 years before the game was launched, and it received lots of publicity.
@@AdminAbuse It's not weird if it follows a pretty standard formula, it's not obscure if everyone heard of it, and it's not a tie-in if it was released decades after the movie.

Funnily enough. This game is what i call good fanfiction. Your OC is seen in the movie but also not a main character instead acting as his own supporting character with his own story and vendetta. The fact that his backstory ties in with the barzini is really good and also not forced upon. Even until now I want to play this game and the graphics while has aged i still enjoy it.

The Wii version is actually pretty good with decent motion controls that work. It's fun slamming guys around in it.
Better than the Axis PS3 controller garbage.
@@guilhermehank4938 Agreed! Way better!
Agreed
I just signed up for community college & my teacher happens to be the guy who directed Marlon Brando during this performance.
Didn’t the book already fill in those blanks?
@@christopher.saint.christopher Not the way it did in the game, since it's the player character who takes care of the loose ends.
luca wasnt shown to be unintellible in the movie it was to show how a person of his stature in size and how feared he is an a soldier is even nervous talking to don corleone
You should cover that terrible Sopranos game on PS2. My therapist says that maybe someday I can get through the trauma it caused me.
The developers of the game definitely did not have the makings of a varsity athlete
Haha, the little wiggle they'd do when they walked, such a shit game.
I enjoyed that game but I was like 9
is ur therapist called Jennifer Melfi
?
Woke up this morning, got some Gabagool
This is legitimately one of my all time favourite games 😂
I enjoyed the film and I enjoyed the game as well.

How much for a review of the Amiga Run and Gun game based on The Godfather? or, you know, Godfather on PSP
I Only Played The Godfather 2 In PS3, Btw
Scarface Is One Of The Best Video Games I Played Ever .
I loved scarface: the world is yours and the godfather 2, but I think I still like the og godfather game more.
But scarfaces soundtrack was amazing.
It’s a shame The Godfather 2 game wasn’t as good.
Still decent tho.
Bro it’s 2020 and I’d still play Godfather 2
That game felt incredibly unfinished i agree
Godfather 2 is so much fun lol
DEFINITELY need a video on Freedom Fighters I loved that game!
I didn’t but wow these are some of the best amiga visuals I’ve ever seen - def gotta check it out
@@minimme Oh yeah, it looks like some sort of high end indie game on the switch.
"34 years later"
Well, Greek mythology themed games are made a few thousand years later, soooo
Fortunately those don’t need licensing
The third movie had come out 16 years before but we don’t talk about that shit
This is one of my favorite games of all time I remember countless hours sitting in front of the monitor absorb in to the crime world of The Godfather, thanks minimme for reviewing this ❤️ (sorry for my english)
There's a line in Frankie's initial dialogue that I still consider the single best exchange I've ever heard in a video game, and as good as most films:
"You know, we should probably..."
"No.
This might be my favorite video of yours so far. Lots of good analysis. Great pace, too. Keep it up!
thanks :)
At least i don't think this game got as weird in adapting it's story from the movie as From Russia With Love did, that game pretty much tried to have a action packed story adapting it from a spy thriller along with classic bond's aesthetics that weren't introduced at the time
Great review! I’m glad to see someone cover this game.
Mid-2000’s EA were their glory days. Oh how far they’ve fallen…
Okay but this game was great, you could rob banks, you could take over compounds, there was always something to do that wasn't a mission and even then the missions were so thrilling like carrying the horse head through the house
Most Godfather fans under 30 only got into the movies because of this game.
12:25 and 12:36
Fake news, you can do that in the Wii version too, I know that because I used to play it all the time. So it isn't a PS3 exclusive.
I think you can also do that in the PC version too, but I might be wrong.
I love this game and I love how they manage to tie in some critical events of the movie with your caracter
007 Nightfire and Everything or Nothing were some of my favorite games
Someone needs to compile a list of all the games you said "but thats for another video" :D
"Make a game based on the Warriors, imagine that..." With it being made by Rockstar and not only a good ass game with solid combat, letting you play through the movie, being a prequel to the movie, and giving you character backstories on how each one joined the Warriors, yeah imagine that.
Elite game, played 100+ hours of this when I was a kid.
Review of Scarface? Yes!
Salokin huge fan of your channel! Love your videos on obscure titles and eurojank
This game kicked ass, I would definitely play a remaster.
It's kind of weird how he didn't touch on the music of the game at all, it's absolutely astounding and it has the same composer as the man who did rocky and the karate kid.
My second favourite gta-like game (with the gta series included on this definition) before Bully and just a little bit above Scarface
I lost a lot of hours in this game at my PS2, it isnt perfect but i simply LOVE IT!
R.I.P. James “Sonny Corleone” Caan…
This is one of the few movie based games that was actually good
i absolutely loved this game growing up and actually really enjoyed how it tied into the film and showed a lot of what was going on in the background in the film and im one of those believers that games should be more fun then just an interactive film like i felt mafia was and i thought that as a mob movie buff i would have loved it and though the story was good that was the only reason i finished it imo the gameplay wasnt fun by any means and the added realism like traffic tickets, speed limit, and quick deaths all took more away from the experience then added to it and felt the game was totally unenjoyable bc of it
You should do the Scarface: The world is yours.
That one is... something else...
*presses Q*
SAY HELLO TO MY LITTLE FRIEND!!!!!
you're implying that Scarface: TWIY is not a great game though
I still remember the first time swimming out into the ocean in that game and being devoured by a shark good times.
@@fartsnstuf Too grindy if anything.
To be fair, Luca was speaking to Aldo, a low level intro thug so probably isn't as bothered, hell speaking to Don Corleone would be freaking scary 😂
You didn't even mention the special guns you can get. That was like my favorite part of playing the game.
He's having an own opinion, so do you, simple as that
@@AdminAbuse It's not weird if it follows a pretty standard formula, it's not obscure if everyone heard of it, and it's not a tie-in if it was released decades after the movie.
Mariano Clerici you are fucking annoying lmaoo
Most people haven't heard of it. Obscure: Yes.
Is based on a pre-existing piece of media. A tie-in: Yes.
As for weird, that is up for debate.
@@marianoclerici3986 "if everyone heard of it" Yeah, that is absolutely NOT true.
"it's not a tie-in" Not every tie-in has to release at the same time as the movie or book.
I loved the second Godfather game. I absolutely recommend checking it out.
mrsaintsgodzilla21 no the second game was horrible so repetitive and boring
Watching this, I feel like this is some very good remake material, but with some drastic changes to the storyline.
I loved this game back in the day so much, great nostalgia
The Godfather + Gta = Recipe for success ?
The Godfather + GTA = Mafia 2
And a nemesis system like Middle Earth.
I mean, I wasn't exactly expecting classical film director Francis Ford Coppola to be like "Yeah! Videogames!"
Especially a fairly quick paced action game.
This was officially Marlon Brandon last acting role as well, since he reprised his role in the game for voice over.
Isn't that what he said?
Who’s Marlon Brandon?
Please make a video about the second game. When I was younger, I remember loving the game.
This is the greatest game ever, definitely needs a remaster or remake.
I agree
This game was a *HUGE* part of my childhood, I got like 99% percent but could never figure out what the last thing to do was. I had different save files and pretended they were different members of the "family". *Gosh, the sweet sweet memories.*
18:43 Wasn't Salvatore Leone the Mafia guy in GTA 3?
It is indeed. Nicely caught. I love how the GTA Series and the "clone games" made references to each other. Like in San Andreas, there's a billboard saying "True Grime: Street Sweepers"
Oh the nostalgia, I just LOVED THE HELL OUT OF THIS GAME! Did 100% completion and just kept roaming the city doing stuff. I remember finishing the story for the first time during christmas eve's night, right before heading out to my grandma's house, that day was awesome
*reservoir dogs next please!!!*
a shop in carslile sold my mam a behind the scenes disc as the full game i think it was part of a delux eddition or somethin and they sold it seperatly as if it was the game its been god knows how many years and im still salty about this (dont know exactly what it was but it wasnt the game and it had the trailer on it im just making assumptions it was part of some special eddition I could be wrong i was maybe about 6 or 7 so i dont remember
@@kylanfearon7168 haha damn im still salty about when i bought it off amazon and it froze on the first loading screen
Aldo looks like the kind of nerdy guy who tried so hard to fit in with the cool kids 😂
This is better than Mafia 3...
Well everything is better than Mafia 3
Mafia 3 is a disgrace
Lmao i bought Mafia 3 on sale for 20$ with all the dlc hoping it would be better now boy was i wrong.
Lol ikr
I bought mafia 3 with the DLC haven't played it yet, I was hoping it was alright by now. I'm currently trying to buy godfather don edition and I know it'll be good
MrSquifler I don’t even like mentioning mafia 3 I played it at a relatives house it sucks
18:43 Nice to see a GTA 3 character travel all the way back in time
I was watching this movie on tv yesterday and they were showing the dead horse head scene and I was like I remember in the game I had to sneak in there kill some security guards , kill a horse and sneak into the old mans room.. idk but when I saw that I was like "that was me I did that !!" lol
