      This is all too common of a story we hear. Mismanagement is a huge problem especially in self managed hoas. Thanks for watching.

    Definitely not a fan of HOAs and this video reinforced that belief. I would like to see stats on how much money the typical HOA generates with fines on residents. Are there HOAs that just manage road maintenance and garbage pickup??

    • @livinginprescott
      @livinginprescott  9 месяцев назад

      Here’s a great article on the summary of HOAs: www.doorloop.com/blog/hoa-statistics
      There are those that are merely there to collect fees for road maintenance and those are typically paid yearly. Those won’t have the same benefits as a planned community like clubhouses, pools, etc.

    I have nothing good to say about HOA's. Ours are governed mostly by snowbirds who don't live here year round. They site you for your flowers and plants trailing a bit over patio walls, and nit pick the people who care about the property and do nothing about the people who don't. They waste $80K a year on Landscape Terrorists who come and chop the shrubs to twigs and blow leaves EACH WEEK, and don't put their budgeted dollars in the places that need it. Fellow snowbird Board Members suggest a raise in the rates each year because they can, and this particular member will patrol the parking lot for residents without stickered cars. But come April-May, they skip town until next Oct-Nov-Geez that's great management. They are all on the take!!

      We personally aren’t HOA fans either. Can’t stand them in fact. The big down side with the state as a whole is the love of the HOA model. Wish we had more options for newer communities without the nonsense HOA restrictions. Sorry you’re dealing with the nonsense of your HOA too. Never fun! Thanks for watching.

    A prior house of ours did not have an HOA. Next door was a free standing basketball net & 3 teenagers who played about 12 hours every day/night - right next to our bedroom window. We moved to an HOA subdivision that didn’t allow basketball nets at all & loved it. Were there over 20 years and almost never heard from the HOA - a couple minor things like painting. But I agree some can be terrible.

    • @livinginprescott
      @livinginprescott  8 месяцев назад +1

      I think it all depends on the board that oversees the community too. You can be fortunate to have a great board or you can have a really bad one.
      Hey at least there isn’t constant basketball noise in your new community. That would drive me crazy too!
      Thanks for watching.

    I'm saying in Prescott for 2 months before starting a job with Glen Canyon NRA. Beautiful town, as is Prescott Valley, but I don't think I could ever live with an HOA.

      It is beautiful isn’t it. The HOA model is not my favorite either. I wish we had less of them and more non HOA opportunities.

      For an HOA, Jasper in our opinion is one of those “you get what you pay for”. The clubhouse is amazing, gym and courts beautiful, and your trash and internet is included for $300 a month. Well worth it.

    How are the HOAs out on acreage properties? I would like at least 2 acres; probably Prescott Valley. Any advice?

    • @livinginprescott
      @livinginprescott  8 месяцев назад +2

      Really just depends on the community and the leadership of the HOA board. Some are great others can be a bit overly restrictive. Let us know if we can help at all and thanks for watching.

    Hi, thanks for your videos :) A relative of mine is planning to buy a RETIREMENT house in PV. Is Prescott Valley has a good healthcare? Good hospital doctors for old people? Thanks so much in advance. Truly appreciate anyones idea on this. :)

      @livinginprescott  9 месяцев назад +1

      Prescott Valley has a hospital as well as a variety of supporting medical care facilities. If there is a need for a specific specialty Scottsdale is about 90 minutes away and some opt to go there for that. We personally haven’t had any issues with the local medical care but have heard some have had issues with getting timely appointments etc. Thanks for watching. If we can be of help in anyway let us know.

      Prescott area and many other places in AZ has a lack of services, including medical because of rapid growth. Been playing catch up for decades, long waits for appointments.

    I hate HOA's. I live in one now in the metro-phoenix area. I am looking to move somewhere up north outside of an HOA. I need a few acres of land for my needs. I could care less about HOA pros. HOA cons will always out weigh so called pros for me.

    The HOA where my home is located has had only one horror story that I know of. There is one ordinance in our HOA that I am referring to which basically states that nothing can be built between the houses other than a fence without prior written permission. This applies to this story.
    One of the new owners decided that they did not want to install rain gutters on their house and opted to have a $20,000 concrete berm at ground level installed all the way around his home where the rain from roof would fall on. Needless to say, he did not get prior consent.
    The HOA informed him that he was in violation and demanded he have the berm removed - he refused. To make a long story short, he began receiving fines which he ignored and then a court summons where he was determined to be in violation and determined to owe over $200,000 in fines and court costs. He wound up filing for bankruptcy and moved - where, I don't know. Thankfully, we have never had any problems like that and the HOA has become somewhat more relaxed in the years since we moved in.

      @livinginprescott  9 месяцев назад +1

      Wow that’s really sad. It was avoidable if owners would read all the CC&Rs before buying in an HOA. It’s not an uncommon story though. I feel for that homeowner. Thanks for sharing!

    All HOAs in single family communities need to be disbanded. All property management companies that manage for HOAs in single family communities should be fired.
    There's no need for HOAs. There are single family communities that have been in existence for decades and perhaps centuries that are beautiful, and desirable places to live.
    HOAs were originally created for segregation.
    Properties in none HOA communities sell for more.
    State law actually overrules HOA rules.
