  • As a cheeky tie-in to my re-upload of Anakin Skywalker versus General Grievous, I've chosen to re-upload the original opening statements as a seperate video, a vintage sample of some of my earlier work. Furthermore, I'll be including the portions that were cut from the original to save time.
    For those of you who are tired of hearing me bellyache about the 2008 Clone Wars animated series, I'm sorry to say that this video will literally be an extended cut edit of me bellyaching about TCW. While some of my specific views and opinions have changed, I stand by the majority of what was said, though I do try to be more diplomatic these days.
    Lastly, I wish to apologize for the poor sound quality, as this is the original voiceover that I recorded back in 2017, and as I stated in the Anakin versus Grievous re-upload, I was dealing with some microphone troubles at the time.
    Anyhoo, with all of that out of the way, please enjoy the video:

    As much as I enjoyed TCW, I fully acknowledge its flaws and agree 100% with this interpretation of it. The animation didn't do it justice either. Not only where characters disfigured caricatures of themselves, but they appeared flaky and weightless. Even heavy hitters like Anakin Skywalker had absolutely no impact with their strikes, and they all seem dance around holding ridiculous ballet poses after every attack sequence. I never did get over the frustration of that.

      Ahsoka went from being an obnoxious brat that everyone hated, to a fan favorite because she was developed well. I feel the show should have centered on Anakin, Obi-Wan and the Clones, but we still got something pretty good out of it.

    TCW's special treatment basically is saying someone is trying to quit smoking you can decide when they get cigarettes at certain times to wean off but at the same time there's someone else who gives that person smokes whenever they want. I honestly love the bellyaching my friend. Those issues more than need to be called out and exposed.
    Also, anybody complaining doesn't actually realize the serious flaws throughout tcw that is a total departure not just from the source material, but is a total rewrite of things ranging from time periods, to character development, and other bizarre occurrences. I have another content maker on here who gave an entire synopsis on why Disney's TCW is nothing like the EU versions of it.
    Good stuff brother.

      @Wes Bradley-Taubner I think you misunderstand what is being discussed here. He talking about the differences between the EU TCW and Disney's TCW(which they deem as canon.) He hates Disney's version, which I also hate, and we think is a huge departure from the source material, and blasphemously so in many regards.
      Clarify which you are referring to because I'm not sure what you're referring to.

      @DarthBalsamic 3 года назад

      @Wes Bradley-Taubner Ok so we all agree. That wasn't clear with your previous comment. Cool.
      I have a ton more complaints unfortunately with Disney TCW, including the awful usage of Darth Maul that undermined his character at the core, but won't go over them. You should watch a video by a content maker named Captain Fordo. He does a whole project detailing comprehensively the disgrace that was Disney's TCW. He even goes on to say how he'd fix it to be more charitable to folks who like Disney's TCW. It's definitely a fascinating watch. You should check it out.

    • @DarthBalsamic
      @DarthBalsamic 3 года назад

      @Wes Bradley-Taubner I actually disagree with your assessment on Maul. I've gone through Maul's character in the EU completely and he had all those things. In fact, the reason why Disney Star War's Episode One's theatrical release was so bad was because they excluded the origin of the story that occured previously where Maul was literally the main character. He was also in a massive prison story prior that contributed to his training. Even Plaguies was in that one. Maul expressed his goals and motivations there too. They did flesh out his character in great detail. Not sure where you're pulling his character source from to come to your conclusion on him that Disney did a better job based on something that existed to a much greater degree, and with more depth, than Disney gives him. The theatrical release of Maul's character in Episode 1 was still Disney, not EU. In fact in the EU version of Episode 1 Maul's does talk with Sideous about their future plans that had already been established with tons of previous storytelling in the EU. They literally neutered what he was in the source material. Even his planet of origin is wrong as he was never from Dathomir as a Zabrak. Dathomir itself was a disaster along with the witches.
      Interestingly, even the continuity after he lost to Sidious was interrupted by Disney's TCW. They had an alternate storyline that they erased to keep milking his pointless character all the way into Rebels. He was severely weakened as a character and a Sith Lord.
      Also, I agree largely with most of what you said in the second paragraph which has numerous explanations further exposing Disney's atrocious handling of the source material. The core problem, which I disagree with you on, is Asokha. Asokha is a totally made up character that was made up for the express purpose of appealing to young girls. Anakin should've never had an apprentice, and did not in the EU for a very important reason that violates a number of premises at once. Asokha is a feminist plot device at the core, which has been proven by the creator of Asokha in her own words, who even made a commercial about it to sell clothing. The reason why none of the other characters and storylines work with her is because they had to totally disregard the EU source material to drop her in. She screws up the entire continuity of EU's clone wars. Asokha as an apprentice to Anakin on it's own invalidated the Jedi Council for very specific reasons. They had no reason to do it as the original EU source material had plenty of young female characters to choose from, and those storylines flowed cohesively in the EU. Even the storyline of her crimes was nonsense because Beress Offie was portrayed incorrectly. She never betrayed anyone.
      Overall when they make these clear errors it's no wonder all those other things go wrong. This is why I referenced the Captain Fordo content guy, because he does the painstaking work to detail why Disney's TCW is wacky and a total departure from the EU material. I'm not making this up here.
      On a side note, the previous Clone Wars animated series was far more consistent with the source material than what Disney did with the second one. I have that whole collection and Grevious was incredibly accurate as well. I much prefer the first one.

    • @DarthBalsamic
      @DarthBalsamic 3 года назад +2

      @Wes Bradley-Taubner I actually agree with basically the latter half of what you wrote.
      Asokha I'll fight you on because I like nothing she's doing, and like I said, I'm not making up that she's a feminist character. The creator of her character literally said that was the purpose, and even made a commercial about it to sell clothes. The bad storylines were her fault and they had to build around her, poorly of course, which you admitted, and we both agree on. Her entire relationship with Anakin itself, and her story with Berris Offie, which you admittedly hate, are antithetical to the EU in various ways. Anakin should have never, and did not have a padawan throughout the entire Clone Wars in the EU. He didn't even become a Knight, which Disney also managed to not flesh out and/or screw up, until much later in the war. They disrespected the entire timeline(which matters greatly in the EU and Star Wars generally, and can't be messed with which is why there are so many continuity issues with Disney that they cannot fix), the Jedi Council's rules, their views on Anakin, and so on, to satisfy the character of Asokha. I'm sorry, but that cannot be overlooked and forgotten. I don't even like how they manage her lightsaber usage as they keep changing the colors, the quantities, and even the length of the sabers, which started off as a shoto in TCW, and somehow changed in the Mandalorian to double full length sabers. Sabers mean something and can't just be changed willy nilly as they seem to like to do in Disney. They even just had another issue with her character in The Mandalorian with her Tagruten tendrils that are core to her species as adults. They can't even get that right with her character. I'm just not for her character at all. I'm sorry man. We'll just have to disagree on her character. Lol
      Bringing up Rey is arguing a strawman here. I didn't bring her up because she was/is transparently a terrible character and that was for a feminist agenda as well. I deduced that from the first movie she appeared in. We agree on Rey. I'm actually surprised you didn't bring up her counterpart who was played by Donald Driver. Both of those characters were disrespectful caricatures of EU characters. The latter was a clear cherrypick of Darth Caedus in the worst way. I still remember first learning about Caedus and Disney simultaneously while Disney retconned his character covertly in the movies. It was a disaster for me.
      In regards to the very first paragraph, that was indeed Disney. They had control over the franchise by then. Phantom Menace all the way to the Revenge of the Sith were all Disney. They did indeed pick and choose which elements to use and not to use, even as they disrupted those elements in the present with their shabby storylines. Maul, as I stated, actually reinforces my point. His fate isn't ambiguous at all. Maul died. Nothing ambiguous about his clear death. Sidious actually repeatedly warned Maul to be careful with his attitude when facing Jedi as a Sith Lord. They literally built on that repeatedly in the EU stories before the Phantom Menace(which by the way was not Gungan heavy at all). By the time you get to Episode One and he faces Qui Gon Jin, the previous stories had already set it up where you're watching to see if he would obey what Sidious told him, as he was even punished for at one point as he had nearly exposed the pair in the mission before the Phantom Menace where he had to kill a Hut and two Jedi, or he'd give in to his impatience. The latter happened and he was killed as Sideous warned him. Keep in mind, Maul was originally brought on to take on a prime Darth Plaguies. Plaguies was killed by Sidious when Maul was sent to kill Obi Wan and Qui Gon on Tatooine who encountered Anakin. My point is Maul had a rich story. His death was not ambiguous because right after his death Darth Tyranus was made a Sith Lord. There can only be two, which is why Ventress(who also did not come from Dathomir, and was an ex Jedi padawan, and has an actual ambiguous ending in the EU) was an acolyte to Dooku. Maul not remaining dead was a massive screw-up and disrespectful to his character and further disrupted the timeline. The real Mandalorians, would have never been ruled by this guy on that planet, which they also screwed up because they had a Queen in canon and civilians on the planet. None of that existed in the EU. They only have clans and a Mandalore. The real Mandalorians would have killed Maul on sight for trying to take over. Even the Jedi understood not doing what Disney had Maul do to the Mandalorians in the EU. None of that made sense with Maul, especially since they had to retcon their own continuity that they wrote after Maul, in Disney's TCW, was defeated by Sidious to push his character into Rebels, and somehow reintroduced again with Ashoka on the last season. There's no defending that convoluted mess.
      By the way, even though Episode 1-3 theatrically were EU based, they did deviate from alot of elements within the source material. The source material in Revenge of the Sith, for example, was quite different than its theatrical release even though it was still applied as EU. Disney didn't even do that right. Because of this you get folks not knowing why, or how, the entirety of the Jedi Order could not discover Sidious until it was too late, even though he was right in front of them. You took issue with the telepaths of the Jedi order not being able to determine whether or not Asokha was telling the truth, so why then don't you have this same observation with Sidious when he fought a Windu led team to take out Sidious, which also deviated from the source material as that fight was far more substantive and prepared in advance within the plot that Disney did not flesh out theatrically. There was a reason why Sidious was able to bypass those telepathic abilities of those Windu brought with him outside of the Nautilan. I could go on and on with how Disney did not do a great job with the ostensible EU theatrical releases.
      I just can't ride with Disney at all man. I'm sorry. Lol

    What you say about force sensitives fighting non-force sensitives absolutely makes real world sesnse. I watched a documentary on RUclips that discussed animal perception of the world in terms of flashes per second (fps). Humans generally percieve 60 flashes per second, anything higher than that and the a light source appears to be a solid light not a flashing one, demonstrating how fast humans take in information. Dogs perceive 90 fps. Squirrels something like 125 fps. Birds I dont remember, maybe 200. Insects some insane number. As flash perception rate increases perception of reality appears slower. Insects basically live in 'Matrix'-like bullet time, the down-side being that a slowly approaching fly swatter looks like grass growing. Reptile have the benefit of adjusting their fps based on their body temperature. Soak up sun your fps goes up, sit in the shade, it goes down. I think somethimg like this would fall in to the sense brach (I dont remember what it is called) and it would totally make sense that a force sensitive would be able to move their perception up into bullet-time, not controllimg the flow of time so much as their perception of it.

    Just to counterpoint the examples you gave about the Jedi in TCW - Anakin was clearly holding back against Hondo, not trying to outright kill him. And Kenobi and Vos were trying to capture Bane alive. If they were trying to kill them they would have done it pretty easily. Obi-Wan did take down Bane pretty easily unarmed in season 4.
    As for Dooku, Dooku did for whatever reason surrender when he was outnumbered - but there's no doubt he would have had the ability to kill them - when the Pykes straight up tried to kill him in season 6 he fought them off pretty easily. I think he just didn't want to take the chance if he could help it, especially since his style was geared toward dueling Force users, and plus maybe he thought he could benefit from the situation without fighting, idk (he is a politician of sorts, too, and probably doesn't wanna openly use his powers that much).

    • @bluehero-96
      @bluehero-96 3 года назад +10

      You're missing the point. Regardless of objective, killing or capture, those mentioned in Jen's examples are trained, talented and experienced enough to accomplish the task without making a fool of themselves. Of note, even without their lightsabers Kenobi and Vos are still capable of incapacitating Cade Bane through hand-to-hand combat.

    • @autistinquisitor9441
      @autistinquisitor9441 3 года назад

      @@bluehero-96 As I mentioned, Kenobi did incapacitate him unarmed without even using the Force in the following season. During the disguise arc.
      Besides, there's more missing context - Cad Bane is noted to be a seasoned Jedi killer, close to Jango Fett in skill level - someone who killed several Jedi without any weapons. The only reason Cad lasted against Vos and Kenobi was because he used his equipment to electrocute or otherwise injure them. He was trying to stall them through that because he knew he didn't have a chance, he was only trying to escape. He also had the help of his droid.
      As for Hondo? Hondo had a weird "friendship" with Kenobi and Anakin and Ahsoka; in season 5 Ahsoka even said "I don't wanna hurt you Hondo!" pleading with him to surrender, but she had no problem easily knocking out the rest of his men. Hondo himself is hinted as not being a slouch in combat, but all that aside, Anakin, Kenobi and Ahsoka clearly didn't want to kill or severely harm someone they considered a 'friend'. Anakin merely wanted to harmlessly take down Hondo to make his companions leave, which is what happened. And the fact that he didn't get killed by the tank still shows that he has powerful reflexes and physical ability.
      Lastly, Maul and Sugi - I agree there really shouldn't be a defense there. But look at TCW Season 7. Maul manhandles an entire clone company with the Force. And destroys a Star Destroyer. Jen himself in his videos has mentioned many times that Maul likes to avoid the Force in favour of a "purely physical" victory. Sugi only managed to get the jump on him by surprise - and him slashing at her on the ground was likely his reckless overconfidence - he could easily have stabbed her to death. Even so, he would have inevitably killed her had Marrok (the dog) not come to the rescue.

      Again, you're missing the point. Obi-wan and Quinlan are themselves seasoned jedi capable of rising above the countermeasures bounty hunters use against them. Also, you've opened yourself up to that inconsistency argument. Your added context adds nothing of value to the discussion, especially in Anakin's case, as he would have no problem cutting down or maiming Hondo if he was faithfully portrayed. And as for Maul, he has no business being in TCW to begin with, but regardless is just another example of TCW's numerous inconsistencies.

      I think you're actually missing my point.
      "He would have no problem cutting down or maiming Hondo if he was rightfully portrayed"
      How so? Hondo had a weird sort of relationship with the Jedi almost considering them "friends". He even went to Hondo for help in Season 5. The fact that he even thought about him in that moment suggests he always saw Hondo as a potential resource.
      As for Cad Bane, once again he is a seasoned Jedi killer who rivalled Jango Fett in terms of skill. Kenobi DID defeat him easily in season 4. And Kenobi did easily disarm him from Vos's saber in like 2 seconds. He was using his tactics as a distraction - buying time and getting close just so he could electrocute them.
      He was not trying to fight them, he was trying to escape and like Jensaarai1 said about the Mandos, he relied heavily on his equipment. If his boot rockets malfunctioned, he'd easily be captured. Cad Bane is supposed to be a highly skilled bounty hunter, not some meager average - the best at the time. And he was still pushed on his back foot.
      It's not enough just to say "ohohoh Kenobi COULD have easily done it", without actually analyzing the fight bit by bit.
      Bane is a HIGHLY skilled hunter who is able to pull those things off, because of his gadets and his own considerable fighting ability. In fact personally, I'm more surprised by how easily he can fight and kill highly trained clones, than using gadgets to electrocute Jedi.
      Keep in mind too - the Jedi don't know what he has at his disposal. He takes them by surprise with his electrocution and other tactics.

      Your opinion of Hondo's relationship with the jedi is purely from his perspective. Hondo puts up a facade of civility all the time in denial of his shitty nature, and that extends to his fake relationship with the jedi. Jedi are not friends with criminals, so of course Hondo would use a perceived jedi friendship to deny his criminality. Hondo is also a TCW original like Ahsoka, so of course Filoni would reuse him, even if the situation didn't really call for him.
      You're also overestimating Cade Bane. Most of his reputation is undeserved word of god. Word of god means dick if there's no proof. Even if Cade Bane had a high jedi kill count, most jedi are less skilled and powerful than Kenobi and Vos at the time. It should be noted that Vos is a master of stealth and espionage and regularly underwent non-jedi-like missions that required him earning a more "mundane" skillset and a broader understanding of people like Cade Bane.
      Keep in mind that several jedi fought Cade Bane and survived to recount the same old tricks, greatly reducing his unpredictability.
