Hi Sam,
Just a bit of family drama that may be of interest to you. My son lives in sao paulo, Brazil. He bought the volvo around 2 years ago brand new. Two weeks ago the car had an over the air software update. It would not even start after the upgrade and had to be towed to the dealership. After 2 weeks they can't get the vehicle functioning and have now given my son a loaner car.
Be interesting to learn of other experiences like this amoungst your followers.
Love your youtube channel.
EXCELLENT UNDER 5 MIN. VID.. KEEP UP THE GOOD FIGHT!
This just goes to show that Tasha from ARK invest was right about OEMs dragging their feet on licensing FSD from Tesla.
On a recent brainstorm podcast she was of the opinion that OEMs would hesitate to license from Tesla. She didn't mention why but you could tell by her expression that they would wait until the last moment.
Elon has already estimated that from the moment an OEM licenses FSD from Tesla it would take that OEM around three years to make the production changes necessary on their cars to support it.
That means if they seal a deal this year they will not have FSD till 2027 at earliest. The longer they wait the more likely the OEM sales will flatline in comparison to cars that can self drive. Then the panic will set in but it will be too late.
Imagine how lucrative Tesla would be if they sourced their batteries, motors, and electronic tech to other OEMs. Then these startups could focus on design and comfort instead of R&D.
@@papasquat355 Not sure if they have the bandwidth to produce that many extra right now but they could.
However they have opened their patents so anyone can crack open one of their motors and duplicate it without fear of being sued. That they don't do this has always flummoxed me.
Maybe they don't want to have their Tier suppliers making Tesla type parts for fear that Tesla could start using that supplier to ramp their own production even faster???
Nice one Hyundai
Ahh … Tesla investing $10 billion on AI this year alone. Plus all fleet with inference HW3/4 computers. $1 bill is peanuts.
Sam thought I would let you know that I am working on FSD. All I can see is legislative hurdles.
Why put that amount of money into FSD when they can license from Tesla??
They want to make all the money available and not be beholden to Tesla.
@@everlasting1154 So they are going to come out behind vs all of the years of experience and constant data learning and updates that Tesla is getting every single day by 100's of thousands of cars all over the world 🤦🏿
@@everlasting1154 - That is the problem - they won't -- they will always be catching up. Tesla now holds the defacto standard.
@@RagnarinVa True. But the data’s value just 10000x because the robots are going to be asked to drive internal combustion cars and trucks also. I guarantee the Tesla bot will be able to drive any car or truck in the coming years.
@@MichaelWashingtonAE yea they won’t catch up in the USA but they may be able to compete in Korea.
Hey Sam if you have an Amazon wish list for equipment, please add it to your dono section in the video description. I’m sure fans would like to chip in.
I have to agree with a previous commenter. I would license Tesla's FSD. I would be cheaper in the long run and a much lower risk financially.
Please fix your microphone Viking...,
Yes I've commented on this before. He seems to have a bad mike that is really muddy.
I'd love to see Hyundai use Tesla's 48v electrical and steer by wire etc.
Agreed...we need more cars to adopt 48 volt architecture to bring economies of scale to components and hopefully 48 volt architecture becomes the industry standard for EVs and gas cars.
Everyone try to make it 😮😮😮
I am not sure the Korean automakers made a mistake by being late to the mass market party. There is just so much ground to cover to make a compelling mass market EV. Engineering efficienct motors, mafacturing batteries with enough energy density to get acceptable range, writing bug free firmware for all the devices, software for good battery management and a good user interface which is intuitive for the driver.
It might be a bit too late for Kia and Hyundai.
Time will tell.
Tesla can't even track Nuriberg 2 laps due to lack of everything that you said. Know your place american.
Do you think America can compete Korea in range, motor, track, battery, density, SOC, management system? You can't even track 2 laps! Also you use Korean batteries and management systems😂
Imagine how easy FSD will be to train in 5 years time when AI is even faster. This lead will evaporate fast with simulation and new AI
Yolo it cost 10 billion just this year from tesla on this and they think they can get away by investing what 1 billion in 2024 ? Forget it. It took Tesla 10 years
They will license from Tesla
Too little too late 💀Legacy auto 💀
Kodak! Blockbuster!
The huge financial missteps of these companies are amazing. How about crawl, walk, run. In that order. Trying to be the best innovator will put you in bankruptcy. Try being reliable, affordable, comfortable, enjoyable.
They appear like missteps, but really all it is, is them.profiting from our ignorance. If people don't know about fsd, have never experienced fsd, cannot afford fsd, salespeople will steer them away from fsd, much like ice salesman are steering people away from evs in general. Once fsd is affordable, and people are more educated, it's a done deal. Oems are slow to move yes, but not dumb. Profit driven that's all. My 2c
@@dallasjohnson8923 Fisker (X2), Nikola, Canoo, Bright Automotive, Aptera (V1 and probably V2), Coda, Detroit Electric, Lightning Car Company, LeEco, Rivian, Faraday, Sono, Dyson EV, Think Global, Electric Last Mile, Lordstown, etc., have either failed or are in the process of failing.
They may not be dumb, but were either too technologically ambitious or were just in it for the pump-and-dump. None have succeeded in producing a product that could be profitable in the mass market. Even Tesla is sliding down the hill.
In this industry it is hazardous for the buyer to be in a bespoke vehicle that will have zero support once the plug gets pulled.
A winner would be the company that only produces the skateboard and electronics and sells to makers who just focus on design, handling, and sport/luxury.
The EV industry has a long road before it is all worked out.
Do you FSD will just be a niche & not mainstream. I would never buy one.
Too little, too late, Hyundai... FSD is years ahead now. Tesla is the pioneer of autonomous driving. Can't change that.
Too many billions have already been wasted on self driving cars for nothing. There are better public transportation methods that money could have paid for and be available already.
I'm skeptical. Their sales volumes seem awfully low.
It’s to late to invest now
A waste. Humans don't drive like autonomous driven cars do. Humans speed. They roll through stop signs. Red light - stop, green light - go, and yellow light go faster. They're always looking for that opening, often cutting others off. They're late to work, late coming back from lunch, late taking kids to school... Everyone's in a hurry.
