Glad to see you post again! I wanted to ask if, right after graduating from your CAA school (at the beginning of your CAA career) were you required to work a lot of night shifts? And if so for how long (months - years) until you could plan a work schedule that best fit your lifestyle needs? Perhaps a trivial question but I would appreciate an answer non the less!
It depends on what The hospital needs are when you are hired on. You can be hired for a specific shift right after graduating If it is available. You don’t necessarily have to work a lot of nights as a new grad either. They actually want providers with some experience to work nights and weekends
The amount of anxiety I got watching you carry the drugs in the tray at the beginning if your shift! I was so paranoid that they will all fall down since you were walking down stairs while only holding the tray with hand!
@@Anesthesiasal I’m so clumsy as it is, I would have fallen face first down the stairs😂 And as a nurse, the clean up and mess that goes into when drugs fall!
Your videos are amazing! I’m interested in becoming a CAA. I’ve heard a lot of CRNAs talk negatively about CAAs. Do you feel as though you are respected in your profession?
@@mustang8206 no threat at all. Trust me. AAs are nowhere near as educated and qualified as CRNAs. So there’s no threat. CRNAs are trained to be independent anesthesia providers and can work independently or as part of a team. It’s up to the person. AAs are trained as assistants and are therefore dependent on another provider. They are always tied at the hip to a physician. So you have to pick what type of career you want.
Thanks a lot for the detailed explanation, especially for the doses of the drugs. In the first case there was mentioned 150 mg of fentanyl, I think there was a mistake. What is the level of medical education needed for the anesth. assistant in the USA, or you are getting the residency program?
150mg obviously a mistake, fentanyl doses in micrograms. For outpatient procedures, usually 50mcg fent combined with 1-2mg Ativan per dose but perhaps they'd use up to 150mcg fentanyl for other reasons. The education needed is similar to med school.
I got a small question, your current case are sedation due to claustrophobia and not GA. So why did you add an pain killer into the prescription. It's seen useless where the exam is not painfull at all or this choice is due to the prior condition of the patient ?
Wait am a new subscriber Wow am confused in USA the drugs already come when they're already diluted? eg us we only have ampules for fentanyl(50mcg and it's 2cc) so we take the 2cc and dilute in a 10cc syringe using distilled water and label 10mcg/cc( dilution depending on body weight of pt) Ohh wait still watching the video while commenting, did you administser 150 mg or 150 mcg of fentanyl for the first pt?
The anesthesiologist is present for induction and some cases, extubation. In this video, all of mine were sedation, so the attending just checks in and signs the chart.
hi when you say you do the case, I presume it is all done by yourself and no anesthesiologist around during the entire procedure? or are they there some of the time/all the time? regards. keep up the good work.
For sedation cases like this (termed Monitored Anesthesia Care or MAC cases), the anesthesiologist assistant will do the whole case themselves. The doc will sign into the case in the beginning and will be there for any emergencies
Can I ask if math and sciences come more natural to you? I've decided to start pre-requisites next year, i'm already in my late 20s with years of corporate experience and only took liberal arts courses. I'm wondering how i'll be able to handle it and how it is for other people who took the pre-requisites and handled year 1 since it's all math/science didadicts!
Hi Melodi, I saw ur comment and wanted to give insight on my experience with pre med and handling the heavy science/math courses! First off, it’s not easy if you simply don’t try. These context of the classes are not hard whatsoever rather the way it’s taught from professors and the workload is where it gets thought. For example, organic chemistry is a class most pre med student have to retake, and I myself have took 3 times and finally passed with an A on my third try, but once I actually applied myself to the material I was able to conclude that it’s not hard rather the intimidation we before-hand, like you are right now, already sets us up for failure. That’s why I advice you take these premed courses as if they’re just another liberal arts course and study it and be interested in it- then you won’t have anything to worry about :)
Thanks for sharing. This was interesting. I didn't know there were Anesthesiologist Assistants. Who is responsible for checking that the drugs and doses to be used are appropriate for each patient? You, the pharmacist, or both? Who is responsible for replenishing the non-drug items in these carts?
CAA decides the dose. If they ever want to consult it would be with the anesthesiologist. In rare circumstances an AA might call pharmacy to consult (like a rare antibiotic)
I am a specialist in anesthesia and intensive care techniques. 4-year Bachelor's degree graduate. I want to complete a master's degree. Is there such a specialization in America?
Outside venues are territorial too. Since other folks run them and when they need Anesthesia we go in there and set up our equipments and they be like hmmmm who’s our provider? Lmao
Hey question about that stretchable circuit you guys use. Do you easily get leaks or holes on them? Been getting holes or it’s easily to get puncture. Thanks:)
When does the academic year starts if anyone wants to join CAA ? What are the eligibility criteria if a person wants to join CAA from india. I had completed my bachelor degree in anesthesia and ot technology...
There are prerequisite courses from your undergrad degree that you’ll have needed to complete along with shadowing hours, the GRE/MCAT and ideally other extracurriculars. Go look each program’s website to find out what you need because many have small differences in what they require from a coursework perspective.
No. You typically aim for a pre-med bachelor’s degree and apply to Masters programs to get certified as an anesthesiologist assistant. Similar to PA school.
Patient can have severe claustrophobia or they’re unable to lay flat/still for long periods of time. There are also MRI guided ablations which require general anesthesia

so does he/she mentions u the dose of the drugs to be administer to the patient or u do it on your own
