Milk tart without cinnamon is not a milk tart for me, as a South African.

What you had was not real milk tart. It is supposed to have a puff pastry bottom. It tastes totally different than the more modern version which is much quicker to make and is more cake like than the traditional versions.

Thank you Louis. I used to live next door to the Melktert queen in Ladismith in the Little Karroo. Watching this happen made me irrationally angry!

You only tried the Malay koeksister....generally the 2nd k is lost in pronunciation to differentiate it from the original koeksister which is made from a plaited dough which is boiled in very hot oil and then dunked in an icy sweet sauce. It has a different look and is much sweeter than the Malay version. Due to its overpowering sweetness it is best eaten from the fridge...be warned..it can be addictive especially if there is hanepoot, a sweet white grape, juice or wine added to the sweet sauce. You must try it next time you visit.

😂😂😂Originally from the slave courter was the koesiesters. The trekking mense only became trekkers decades later. Yes they were Dutch before they became a trekking and colonising company 😂😂😂

Charlie's make pretty cakes, but for the real good stuff you have to get out of the city. The aunties and tannies (aunty in afrikaans)will give you the traditional and best.

I'm from Cape Town and I'll tell you that Bunny Chow was from a non South African, the ONLY place you go for an authentic Bunny Chow is to Durban, that's where it's from, the one in the video looks HORRENDOUS. The Gatsby is the sandwich that is authentically Capetonian. Cape Malay cooking inspired many various dishes in Cape Town over generations with the amalgamation of the Dutch and English dishes.

Completely WRONG history on the bunny chow. It’s truly sad that a platform like this can’t get their facts right.
