I have a differing opinion on the matter of lace covers for football boots. In my experience, my shoes tend to come untied during games, which can be frustrating, especially on cold winter days when I have to stop, remove my gloves and tie them. This has been a recurring problem for me, which is why I invested in three pairs of Phantom Vision boots four years ago. Now, I'm considering purchasing the new Phantom GX with a lace cover, as I don't want to miss out on this useful feature again. It can make a significant difference in comfort and convenience, especially in cold weather conditions.
The one thing the Vapor 15 is missing is the pull tab the 14's had, it made it way easier to get into the boot and now it's a pain in the ass. The Superfly collar helps with that, but if anything it's just a glorified $25 pull tab.
My personal belief with ACC is they just use it to denote any boot that has that matte texture on the Nikeskin top coating (mercurials used to be glossy remember). The phantom GX has no top coating and a grip element of its own coming from the upper itself hence no mention of ACC. Not sure what I’d say about the tiempos never had a pair but the leather is coated.

I can't recall how many boots that have been broken in games due to a player getting their studs into my foot or into my double or triple knotted laces. I bought a pair of laceless boots last season, hoping that that problem wouldn't occur (which it didn't of course) but the boots themselves didn't last me a season like the other laced boots had. After looking for weeks, I'm thinking of putting my money towards the phantom gx pros (less money and I'm hoping they'll last me for at least 2 seasons), but I don't know if there's something far better out there for a price that's the equal or less to it.
I disagree, I wear the dfs, and I find it to be more secure in my feet and since I play on ag, it helps those rubber pellets not get into my shoes as much
How can you say that the superfly doesn't have benefits than the vapor. When I play with the superfly I feel more lockdow and my heels are in place. When I play with the vapor my heels are slippery and come out!
Hi Josias, I was looking into ways to prevent turf pellets from entering my boots without paying for a collar and found that American Football players use spats on their cleats to avoid errant pellets and their laces becoming untied. Is there a reason that this isn’t common for soccer? I imagine the main concerns would be touch, tradition, aesthetics, and maybe durability.
I think it mainly comes from the idea that another layer of fabric near where you could be striking the ball especially in the inside of your foot could be a bad idea where in american football they dont really have to worry about that

To me, the grip provided on the Predator is not that useless, lots of player want to make a good curve 🤷♂️
When they implemented tungsten back in the day, it was a much more significant amount of weight. Whether it actually helped or not is hard to say, but at the very least you could feel the extra weight in that area of the foot.
Can confirm. In addition, the lace loops are a structural weakpoint. Ripped one of them in my Phantom Visions, resulting in major imbalance in lockdown - couldn't even replace it because I wasn't able to reach it due toe the cover. So all in all - pretty pointless.

Properly tie your laces and it's not an issue

Micro texturing can improve grip if done right, in a sandpaper like manner. Not just a few bumps spread out sparingly.
if anything, the rubber sticks to the ball too much and make you trip over the ball more.

Maybe if the micro textures on the speedportal had a sticky sensation to them they would give some sense to the whole idea behind them
Maybe unpopular opinion but Nike should just discontinue the DF collar, it just looks goofy. It was cool 7 years ago, but not anymore

I would personally go for the supperflys, for me they are very comfy and fit my foot well.
Get the Pro or Elite from 1-2 generations ago since you can usually find them on sale.
