You might have been thinking, "Wow, did Gundam 00 really kill Brian and Isaac?" The answer is no. We would never relent to our nemesis! On this episode, we focus all our newtype potential into finishing the fight against the Innovade menace in Gundam 00 Season 2! This show raises the stakes in the back half as Ribbons abuses his brain WiFi powers; Graham becomes Mr. Weeaboo; Lyle replaces Neil even though cyborg-Neil is a way better idea; Louise and Saji forget how to use a phone; Sumeragi hooks up with Allelujah (or was it Hallelujah?); and Setsuna evolves into an Innovator because reasons. Plus, we discuss Gundam the Musical, the prospect of livestreaming nude limbo, and even make a Beerfest reference.

I haven't watched season 2, so I don't have much to say other than this -
I find it interesting that during the 90's we saw a very deliberate attempt to move away from Newtypes. They don't exist in G Gundam (though admittedly that show has people doing superhuman feats), or Gundam Wing. They exist in Gundam X, but that show is explicitly a repudiation of the concept. And then they don't exist again in Turn A.
In other words, it seems like a conscious choice from the people producing those 90's shows to move away from the Newtype idea. In fact, I'm pretty sure I've read some Turn A-era interviews where Tomino confessed that he had soured on the idea, deciding that focusing on humanity as-is (rather than humanity's evolution into something else) made for a much more relatable show.
But then we got two shows in a row from the 2000's that go right back to including some sort of Newtype analogue, neither of which (in my opinion) really work. It's almost as if the creators thought "It's just not Gundam without Newtypes".
This kind of gets to Brian's point early in the episode about how it feels like 00 is a "checklist show". Indeed, I feel like a lot of shows and films (at least from legacy franchises) become checklist shows. People insist that the show film has to have X or Y because they showed up in the past, so they cram it in regardless of whether it makes sense (we saw it once again with Witch from Mercury, which crams in things like the colony laser at the absolute last minute because reasons).
I wish this wasn't the case. I wish creators and executives had more confidence to tell the stories they want to tell, and that fans would be willing to accept some degree of change.
But I also understand that that's just not going to happen in most cases. Ah well.
