This song is totally credit to Dave off the Division Bell. Dave the only person to play twice at Pompeii since 79 AD. this time with an audience. Dave said on his last tour would play special places regards of size, He wanted people to say " I Was there". He also said he plays better at some place and like the ghost from the past what went on here. There is a tunnel inside this Amphitheater dedicated to P.F. 1972 performance. I have seen him 9 times and Pompeii is his best playing as no big production >just Dave. How did Rembrandt, Mozart, Michelangelo do what they did.70yrs old.

This is 2016. Gilmour is 70 here. This is wonderful. Wonderful concert. The version of COMFORTABLY NUMB in this concert may even match Pulse; not in length, but in heart. I still love the acoustic version of COMING BACK TO LIFE (with the girl choir) best because it is witty and so much more difficult to solo.

Coming back to earth to comment... Back in the early '70s we would get off work at 10:00 or so and ride around in the car listening to Pink Floyd (Wish You Were Here, mostly) on 8-track tapes. That format would let the album loop over and over without interruption. We would ride for hours until everyone just wore out and it was time to go home and get ready for school and work the next day! repeat, repeat, repeat... fewer obligations as a teenager, for sure!!

I'm going to say this I've watched a good few reactions just purely out of interest to see if the person (s) feel the same as me. To watch the both of your reactions is truly beautiful and I thank you for that. The way you dissect each note and analyse the lyrics is bonny but most of all you feel it and that for me is what music is all about of course when you fall into the spider web of optimum perfection that is David gilmour well We're hooked for life luckily this has been in my life since my mid teens which has been a blessing but also it left me like well where do you go from here. ? And the answer is nowhere really you need to just enjoy other music and accept that not everyone has what David has. Anyway all the best from Scotland 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿✌🏼🙏🏼

Great reaction, as always! This is the first time I've heard DG's music compared to a dog lying down, lol - I get what you meant, but it made me laugh too! What you said about David and his guitar becoming one reminded me of something I read, about how, for a long time (maybe still?), young guitar players would make a pilgrimage to the amphitheater in Pompeii and lay their guitar down on the exact spot where Dave stood while playing during PF Live in Pompeii, and they would almost seem to be praying, hoping to absorb some of his magic to improve their play. Dave was asked, what do you say to young guitarists who want to sound just like you? He said (paraphrasing), 'don't try to sound like me, try to sound like you. Whatever comes out of my guitar is a product of my genes, my blood, my muscles, my nervous system, and my life experiences and emotion at the time. It's the same with every guitar player, each one is unique, so just play like you, that's how you'll sound best.' I'm sure that's more words than famously taciturn DG actually used, but it was something to that effect. Sage advice from the Lord of the Strings 🤗

Which show did you attend? We did a road trip from Minneapolis and were at the 3rd show (April 8, I think?) at United Center. There were 5 of us, we were unanimous in saying it was one of the best concerts we've ever seen. I recall that Dave had been lent a brand new generation sound system for the North America leg of the tour, the first road test for the new equipment, so we were excited to hear it, and it was a treat, the sound was crystal clear. I'd go that far and farther to see him again.

An interesting discussion about what the world would be like without David as a guitarist with Pink Floyd. We have a lot to thank Syd Barrett for this, as he suggested Dave as an addition to Pink Floyd as the rest of the band were concerned about Syd's poor live performance and the rest as they say is history. David and Roger took the band in a totally new direction
