    I also have a Yamaha 2018 Smax. I have several things to say about it. Gas milage is awesome, around 80mpg for me. Comfort is good to, storage is amazing. My longest single trek on the bike was 120 miles in one day. No problems and very comfortable. The biggest expense you will see from this bike is the regular maintenance. I pay about $280 for a regular oil change and adjustments. Just put new tires on my bike and it only cost $98. I realized the stock tires were absolutely awful compared to a more robust street tire. I actually got better gas mileage after the tire change...about 10% better. Also, they corner much better. This bike has saved me time and money commuting here in San Diego. I can find parking EVERYWHERE and my girl fits comfortable on the back seat. One thing to also mention...Im a huge guy. I'm a bodybuilder and I weigh 255lbs and Im 6'2". I feel very comfortable on this bike :)

    I love my Smax! It's really fun and easy to ride. The brakes are very good and the acceleration isn't bad for a smaller scooter. I purchased it in NYC and it was a real game changer for navigating the city. I was able to cross most of the bridges back and forth from my spot in Queens to midtown without problems. It was perfect for shopping trips and commuting. The under seat storage is pretty big and the hook below the handle bars can hold a few grocery bags also. Once I set 4, 12 packs of beer on the deck and rode it home! Not that I am advising this trick either but it's so easy to ride that I would ride it to get coffee in the morning and ride home using only my right hand. My only gripe was the actual headlights as they do not provide very much visibility with the high beams on and the low beams are like being blindfolded. Also you want to avoid pot holes or slow down to almost a stop before hitting one. Any difference in pavement height such as pulling into drives etc. will bottom out the suspension. If you are in an area where the roads are not good (like queens) it felt scary to have to slow down so much before riding through a rough section of road. I felt like the traffic bearing down on me as a slowed was dangerous and thought an enduro would have been a better choice in those situations. Hard to give up that storage though! Once you have it it's hard to think of having a bike without it which is weird to me coming from an off road background.

    I delayed purchasing an XMax thinking that the 2019 model would have ABS. Only the models sold in Asia have the ABS option.

      @gatorgreg1565  6 лет назад +1

      Yeah it sucks that you have to step up to the XMAX to get ABS in the USA. However, the brakes on the SMAX are excellent and use the same 267mm front and 245mm rear discs as the heavier XMAX (albeit without ABS). In comparison to the PCX 150, the rear disc on the SMAX is actually bigger than the front disc of the PCX (220mm) which still uses a drum brake in the rear. The SMAX's brakes are even bigger than the 300cc class Honda Forza (256mm front and 240mm rear). So the stopping power of the SMAX is very good and the brake levers are also positioned very well and have great feel IMO.

      Good question, it’s a little like choosing between Maryann and Ginger, I wish I could have them both - LOL. However, I think I’d give a slight edge to the SMAX over my old 2015 PCX because of the extra bit of power and top speed, just like they did in the motorcycle.com “Scootout” review. The 2019 PCX150 with optional ABS on the other hand, which added beefier tires and supposedly an improved top speed, would be a much tougher decision I think.

    Too bad...those goofy US turn signals. HAHA! I've had my SMax more than 7 years...great scoot and never once let me down in nearly 18K miles! I have the Taiwanese version released in July of 2013. Seat sux for taller folks, but a great scoot nonetheless. Cheers. PCXs are FUGLY IMHO...this SMax looks GUUD!

      Mine red-lines at about 74mph. Ive driven past a few "your speed" checkers and its consistantly about 3-4pmh lower than my actual speed. Being said, I can cruise at 70-72mph without redlining.
