Hey guys! I've just returned from my travels across Asia and Panasonic lent me the LUMIX LX10 to review while I was travelling.
Overall I think the camera is great except for those four things mentioned in the video. This is possibly the best point and shoot available in 2017.
What do you think about the 4 things you need to know before buying the LX10?
Panasonic loaned me these cameras for review.

Hi, if you want to shorten starting time you must turn off Restore Lens Position, because it adds time to zoom and focus. If I set all options to manual it starts in circa 3 seconds
Wow that would have been super useful to know. This is the MVP post right here. Thanks for sharing!!!! I can't confirm as i'm using the RX100 V now, but thats awesome to hear.
Haha, love that it goes out of focus at the end :) Nice video, thank you for making this. I purchased the LX10 last week. It's a nice little camera. The f/1.4 is great!
I have somewhat bad skin but lovely furniture - this camera seams ideal for me!
Re Silent Mode. Silent Mode is meant for museums, etc., where noise and flash may be prohibited or intrusive. However, you can turn OFF the beeps in the sound settings separately from the Silent Mode. Search for "Sounds" in the .PDF (English) manual.
You are correct! It was first time using the Panasonic camera system. So it's always a hassle to figure everything out.
@@VenusandMaiku
Read the damn manual!!
@@thewalkingvloggingman7152 since they're loaner units they probably didn't come with standard boxes, and probably didn't include a manual. Idk though
Hi Thanks for the video. I notice during the recording that the camera stays focused on the shield behind you and doesn't re-focus on your face. Particularly at the end. Is this recorded on the LX10 and wuzupwidat?
When you filmed the night footage, were you in auto or manual mode? Auto or manual focus?
7.5 seconds? Darn!! Was really interested in this camera but I do need fast on very often. Hmmmm. Anyways great review!
Oops I see the tweak above thanks!
You cannot use electric shutter with flash as it need actual shutter for flash photography that is why flash doesn't work, same will happen to other mirrorless cams.
Thanks for this great review .The autofocus seems not really good...
Yes, pretty sure this user error.
In 2 DODO well it was mostly very low light
Did you needed an nd filter for video shooting during day?
Oh, the quality of this camera is flippin fantastic!
Wanna go on an adventure with meee??? =)
Hey, remember what happened this summer when you asked that? :P
anyone know if this can output 4k clean hdmi for streaming? not recording. Does this also have no auto shut off if connected to power? (or using a dummy battery)
2 ?s: mentioned USB Charging...Are you able to use the camera while it charges? also, when taking video for extended time is there any overheating issues? have been looking between this and the sony RX100 V.
Panasonic batteries for this camera seem in short supply. Watch out for second party batteries some will jam the battery compartment and very difficult to remove.
This is my ancillary camera with the Nikon 70 to 200 zoom. Image quality is great. Focus takes a little getting used to. Macro is really good. I really like the focus stacking, great for three dimensionals like flowers -- takes practice. Even wide open the Leica Panasonic Summilux seems a bit sharper and contrasty than the Leica Leica Summilux. I wish there were some second party user manuals around. All in all a really satisfying camera.
I think the 4K feature on this cam is quite limited...mostly just a marketing department exaggeration...
It will NOT shoot at the full wide angle view in 4K...a large crop makes 4K useful in some situations but def creates some big limitations...
AND...
when in 4K mode...this cam shuts off the image stabilization for some stupid reason...sooooo a tripod is almost a necessity :( :(
The good news is that these can currently be found for under $400 USD brand new right now and
at that price these are actually very good values even considering the "4K lie"...
Dude, why are u out of focus half the time?
I'm looking for a good camera for taking on holiday. I take a lot of city pics and would like one that's good at low light, I don't bother with vlogging. Would this be a good camera or can you recommend another? Thanks
Just got this camera yesterday and am learning the odds and ends of using it effectively! The shots in your vlog were stunning and im excited to get some footage with this camera! One thing i noticed is the memory card that was included with the bundle doesn't work for 4k footage. Do you know what the minimum mb/s is required to shoot in 4k with this camera? That is one thing i would have included in the video.
Usually 90mb/s and up is required for 4K and 1080p 120fps video.
Maiku Thanks! I was looking at my cameras settings and the required mb/s for recording in 4k is 100 mb/s. I'll have to stay with fhd for now. Gonna need one of those selfie sticks as Well!
Which one do you suggest for concert photography and night photography. Lx10 or Zs100?
Faster lens on the lx10 should defo help in dark conditions! So that's what I'd go for
@@OttosTheName thank you so much
Thank you for your review. I am interested in this camera for vlogging. However in your review you are definitely not in focus as you are doing your final summary. Was this part of the review recorded with an LX10? If so the auto-focus is pretty poor. Any feedback would be appreciated.
Keep calm and keep the focus in the keep calm sign.
How long does the battery last for 1080P video? 1 hour, 2 hours?
First of all, a nice review. Have you an idea if this camera is compatible with a UHS-II sd card? If so is it then capable of emptying its buffer faster? (
SANDISK EXTREME PRO SD UHS-II CARD)
Mr P Hi, it is compatible with UHS-I Card with U3. I have Sandisk Extreme Pro UHS-I V30 and it works with max speed without any problem
02:42 - Those caves in Malaysia are pretty cool.
Nice review
try out the Manjangul lava tube in Jeju, Korea...pretty impressive at almost 9km long, cold and dark. Only a portion of it though is open to the pubic...maybe 1-2 km if I remember right.
And its quite near to the Capital Kuala Lumpur and near the train station too. Very convenient..
I have the G85 and I like it. I noticed in this video your face was out of focus most of the time but other video looked great. I was thinking about getting a smaller camera because I got kicked out of a park because they said "your camera looks to professional". Was this a setting you had wrong or is it a focusing issue on the camera?
Thank you
It's odd. So when i'm filming in my home, I simply leave the thing on a tripod with studio lights and start filming in 4K. Where in my travel videos, I purposely use 1080p to enable digital image stabilization.
So no stabilisation with 4k?
Useful review thanks, I just sold my old G7X II as I shoot everything in 4K these days on my LUMIX G80 or GH5 but I miss that pocket camera for bars etc. when travel vlogging. The 36mm crop is almost a killer but I think it would still be a useful tool to have available and as a backup camera. :-)
You may want to consider the RX100V. The autofocus on that camera is pretty amazing. Almost as fast as canon duel pixel auto focus.
Maiku Wong yes clearly a very good camera although probably twice the price, I don't like the 5 min limit on recording 4K although in fairness I guess you wouldn't do many shots that lasted that long.
I’m going on overseas vacation. Should I bring my mini tripod for my G7x??
Cool video! I'm thinking of getting the LX10 as a second camera. How's the battery life and how's the internal mic audio quality?
By the way, you seem to travel around Asia a lot. If you happen to come to China (specifically Shanghai), hit me up. We could grab a couple of drinks and maybe even do some collab videos.
Cool! All the internal mics on the point and shoots aren't great. I didn't get a chance to use this micromuffs on the LX10. If you can afford the Sony RX100V get that. Otherwise, the LX10 is decent for half the price.
+Maiku Wong thank you for your video bro, i'm a hardware reviewer and i can't find a good camera to record my videos from the top, i don't show myself, but the product. I have an arm and my actual camera is a Samsung Galaxy Note 5 which you may laugh but it's the best from all i've tested. I also have the Sony RX100 the first model which is fantastic to take pictures and record videos but it only goes to 1080p 50FPS and i also don't find a way to put it at the top in a position that it's comfortable. I want to improve my recording quality and SPECIALLY auto focus but what you say about the lens and having to put it far away from the object it's killer again, so i would like you to give me an advice on this Lumix LX10 if you can of course. Thanks a lot, Kind Regards, Sergio.
Are you using anything to reduce wind noise? Thank you!
yes, he is using the camera to reduce the noise :D
Hey, Maiku, good job.
Looks like there's also an LX15.
Maybe I'll compare it to the Canon G9 or 7 and buy one.
I was going to get a GX8, but don't really need all the fanciness.
You go to some cool places. I've been to some, but in the 70s.
Thanks!
KutWrite LX10 and LX15 are the same cameras only named differently on different markets. But you probably know by now.
Thanks for your review. Think I will be getting this panasonic
great review, very helpful. i'm between this one and the a5100. what would you recommend?
Never used the A5100. I can tell you that the RX100 V is definitely what I upgraded to.
Phase focus is just amazing on that camera.
Can you change the shutter speed for light painting? I have this camera and can’t figure it out.
great immage quality but i noticed it prefere focus background.
Hi Wong! Which are que options for slow motion. Does it record at 120p (in 1080)?
It can shoot 120 FPS in 1080p or 4K. There is a super high shutter effect that occurs though, and there are no focus controls while shooting.
The Image Stabilization is terrible on the LX10 by just looking at your video. Im happy to sacrifice 4k for my G7X Mark II. Thanks For the review.
This is great thank you! Been fighting between G7X Mark 2 and this one. Probably getting this.
I'm gonna be releasing a review for the RX100 V in the next week. =) Perhaps wait and see that before pulling the trigger.
Maiku Wong that Sony one is way out of my budget at the moment. It's much more expensive right?
+Pint and Shoot oh, but the phase focus is so key. It has more raw firepower than my 80D. The only downside is that it doesn't have a audio jack for external audio.
And no touch screen!
I have been comparing LX10 to LX100 and have found a show-stopper. LX 10 does not provide any stabilization when shooting 4K video (as per Page 139 of its Advanced User Manual). I will not pay over $500 for unstabilized video. You can see the deleterious effects here when the camera is pick up and hand-held.
hmm.so the 4K footage is cropped, limited to 15 minutes and unstabilized? oh no. I'm looking to buy this camera vs waiting forever for the G7x III to arrive. Will my Zhiyun crane M address the unstabilized 4K video? I had bought the crane M last week. Thank you.
I endef up buying a GX85 for good stab and long record time in 4K.
kRx md G7x m3 might be never. Any Leaks about when??
nah. no word on the Mk3. I went with the LX 10 a few weeks ago and the $400 savings went to the Gopro6 instead of getting the RX100V
kRx md didn’t like the G7x 2?
Thoughts on this camera in 2020?
It’s now outdated. There are a number of cameras which have instant auto focus, eye AF in a compact package. Check out the RX100V series camera from Sony.
Good practical review, thumbs up =)
Great video, can you do timelapse with it's charging it directly using a power bank?
I did try this. Unfortunately no. Can't charge while the camera is turned on.
hi Maiku .. tQ for sharing.
i hv fallen in love with the LX-10 ..
That's a decent review, thank you so much!!
I have a question; do you recommend it in December 2020? If not, what are the alternatives?
Definately not.
The Sony Zv-1 if you are doing video.
The Sony Rx100 mark VII if it’s for photos.
Otherwise alternatives are
Canon M50 Mark II for mirrorless crop sensor.
Or wait for the Sony A7IV for full frame.
@@VenusandMaiku thanks a lot
lx10 or panasonic g7? gonna make an exchange semester and want to take photos and videos =) great review!
It's a great pity that the LZ10 crops in disastrously in video mode. It virtually turns it into a portrait camera. The other thing to point out however is that the image stabilization is actually very poor compared with the Canon D7X, Lumix GX85, Sony HX, Sony RX100, and a host of other cameras that do it better. In particular the vertical stabilization is very poor and prone to jitter, as was evidenced in your footage of the dog and other clips. Proper 5 axis stabilzation should be virtually flawless, and indeed is on the D7X and GX85, both now cheaper than the LZ10. This makes it a deal breaker for many, which is a pity because it is otherwise a very fine camera.
What if you get jumped or "lose" the camera and you can't return it, will they bill you?
Already returned it. =) and probably.
What model is that flexy tripod?
FIX YOUR FOCUS !
Yeah at about 9:00 it sticks the focus on the wall instead of your face. Was it in manual?
I thought it was my eyes. Awful. No thanks. I’ll take the G7x.
He probably did that on purpose in order to let the viewers decide for themselves that this thing has a big issue with focusing! lol!!!
Maiku, I just bought one and you are way over me...that's okay. Ask a simple Q, would you buy one?
+john dougherty I’m currently using the RX100 V.
your video is good but you are out of focus a lot. Is that the t6s ?
Is it good to use for live streams?
And Clean HDMI out?
Wouldn't recommend for either.
Maiku Wong thanx for the reply.
I have the lx100 its grate but doesn't work for live streams. Any recommendations for something similar to the lx100 ?
Why it doesn't work? Doesn't have a clean HDMI out?
Is there live HDMI Out or not?
Autofocus during the blog wasn't good... I think the Sony RX100 series are better... more expensive, but better.
Need This.
Would you say this the most potent version of Panasonic Lumix for vlogging??! Beautiful video. Thank you!!! 👐🏼🏆🏆🏆
Let’s work together!
Well, this is not the right camera for me I guess. After Minute 5 nearly the whole video is out of focus. I dont need the best AF, but it should at least not fail extremely 🙈
Stabilization doesn't look good
Very good stuff
Brilliant review
nice review~!
is this camera good for unprofessional filmmaking?
I've seen some good ones on YT using the camera that's a step up from this one. Maybe if you search YT you can find some done with this one.
you can buy those chargers cheap
From 7:13 on, your face is completely out of focus, it focused on the background 😜
Thank you. But please can you try one long exposure night star sky picture at f1.4? I am so struggling to find any online from the lx10. I can send you my email.
Honestly, I don't think this camera is the best for starlapses. Reasoning is that the battery only has 640mah as opposed to the competitors that have 1040mah battery. Specifically for starlapse and the point and shoot form factor, I would choose the RX100 V.
Sick visuals. I think this will be my next camera purchase. Lots of bang for the buck.
This is a great review!
* * * OK....ISN'T THIS A DIGITAL CAMERA?....WHY ARE ALL THE REVIEWS ABOUT "SHOOTING VIDEOS" ???
Mostly because at this day any camera will shoot amazing photos. There is virtually no difference between the Canon G7X, Panasonic LX10 and the Sony RX100 cameras when taking photos. The true differentiation is videos.
......dude, too close to the screen.
I notice how you don't mention the CRAPPY auto focus! I know you can't rag on the brand, but that ending shot of you TOTALLY out of focus - the ENTIRE time, caused me to look elsewhere for another model. Other than that, the camera seems pretty solid, but auto focus is crucial man.
Haha. Like I said I would just let it do it’s thing. Let you guys judge for yourself =)
@@VenusandMaiku I figured so. Surely anyone else watching would pick up on that.
Now, I will not buy this camera
Why on earth is people trying to shoot in AUTO?????? When you are trying to get the best quality of photography and Video, you must set it up in manual!!!
It’s a point and shoot. This isn’t a camera you use auto with unless you love on screen menus to do everything.
If you want a camera that you want to use manual everything. Get a DSLR.
Or if you want to be really fancy, the Sony A7sIV can shoot everything video auto better than you can do things manually.
Filming in 4K and uploading in 240p - come oooon!
2 mins in and he has said nothing of substance just "err ummm blah blah"
