Hey guys. Nice video. Unboxings can be fun to do. I had no idea The Go Betweens had so much output. I'm guessing the other 2 boxes in the background are vols. 1 & 2? Boxed sets are great treasure troves when done right and thoughtfully. Thanks for tagging me on this. Cheers and Merry Christmas to you both from Sydney Oz. 😊😊👍👍
Yeah those are the other two volumes in the background. They released 9 albums total, 6 in during their initial phase and 3 reunion albums, each box covers 3 albums. They're beautiful sets so we're glad to be able to complete the trilogy!
I got my box set this week as well. Domino did a great job on these planning them out so they all look similar with very nice packaging. I agree it’s definitely worth it for Oceans Apart. The only time I saw them together was right after they reformed as a duo at Great American Music Hall in SF. Hope you enjoy.
yeah these boxes are really well done, and the continuity is a nice touch for sure. Time to start digging into the music, hope you enjoy yours as well!
Fantastic video, great to see you back! I have a suspicion, however, that your Church t-shirt reveals where your true loyalties lie! 😋 Still, you have inspired me to dig into the Go-Betweens' discography. Many thanks! 🙏
Neither one of us has a GoBs tshirt so we had to pick something at least slightly related. We have the church and go-bs represented in our upcoming year end wrap up videos as well, coming soon to a phone near you! If we inspired anyone to revisit the Go-Bs, we did our job. Thanks for watching again, cheers!
Nice to see the Vol.3 out in the wild - and on my wantlist for sure..........with the books, I wonder if they put a stamp or some sort of ID in them to show where they came from; out of Grant's library? Cheers from Melbourne, Aust. John D.
Those books went quick, we had no chance of getting those. That's a good question on the books though, I think you just have to take their word for it, but maybe Robert gave them some sort of approval of authenticity. Great set and worth getting for sure. I think the other 2 volumes are being reissued next year in case you missed either. Cheers and thanks for watching!
Grant McLennan was actually born in Rocky. He was a CQ boy. One of their singles, "Cattle and Cane," has a photo of Quay St. A bridge was named after them in Brissie. Streets of Your Town is a great song.
Nice vid, I got my set in last week and just got a chance to sit down and start listening today. I had all these original albums either on vinyl or CD, but the remix/remaster of Oceans Apart is so nice to have. The album is great but the original master was a real travesty - so far it seems the new one is a vast improvement, less compression and the vocals are mixed down some so that the guitars/horns/percussion all come through brighter. Weirdly, some of the songs seem almost like entirely different takes - Darlinghurst Nights for instance is a full 40 seconds shorter than the original release. It seems like they cut out most of the extended fade out that was present on the original track and the horns really sound different (may be just the remix). The Nachtmix 99 live acoustic show is fantastic as well, I had not heard it.
Haven't gotten thru much yet, the first cd, and just played Oceans Apart vinyl. WOW, so different sounding, much more than I thought, sounds really good, more tame but more full sounding at the same time. I'll still keep the original cd and vinyl and do a more full comparison, nice to have both. We never found the original unlistenable, more compressed than it should have been for sure, but there are much worse offenders out there. Another commenter mentioned the London download on the ticket as well, we totally would have missed that if someone hadn't pointed it out. Lots to get through, hopefully you enjoy it as well!

@@MarriedtoVinyl Nice to hear about the reissue, I had not heard that, thanks!
I had never listened to The Go-Betweens before, but I must say I don’t mind "Streets of Your Town."
