Добавлен 4 авг 2024
Married couple obsessed with music. We are vinyl junkies who love record shopping and playing music together. 12"/10"/7" preferred, CDs also welcome. Our channel will be focused on music discussion and will be vinyl forward, but not exclusive. Come join us on record store trips, discussing our new music finds, bands we love, concerts we attend etc.
We are teens of the 80's, so naturally love Creation/4AD/Citadel Records, The Cure, The Church, Echo & The Bunnymen, Siouxie & The Banshees, The Damned, Joy Division/New Order, Depeche Mode, R.E.M., U2, XTC, The Smiths etc. We're also huge into 60's, 70's & 90's bands like the Who, Zombies, Love, Pink Floyd, Lee Hazlewood, BOWIE, Roxy Music, Tom Petty, Krautrock, Shoegaze, Britpop, all kinds really!

Welcome to our channel, thanks for watching our 1st video! Today we'll be showing you recent purchases from our first of many trips to local record stores. Stores visited in this video were Rhino Records in Montclair, and The Glass House Record Store in Pomona. Includes finds from Blondie, Sparks, The Kinks, The Comsat Angels, Elvis Costello & more! Glass House is closing this weekend, I believ...
Thanks for this video! I'm new to the channel and subscribing. My favorite of the year is SOS by Nice Biscuit. Since you guys seem to be into 90s British music I also recommend Shed Seven - A Matter of Time. Looking forward to more videos!
Now this is what I call a proper list. Tons of albums Ive not heard (even if I know the artists) and your reviews make me want to check out/buy/dive into debt etc. Have saved the list for January blitz. Subscribed. Cheers. (PS. GSYBE great but still no Mogwai)
So refreshing watching you guys. Least pretentious top 20 I've seen. "This cant go on" is definitely one of the best songs of 2024! My top 10 in no particular order. Something in the room she moves - Julia Holter This could be Texas - English Teacher Crime in Australia - Party Dozen Romance - Fontaines DC No title... - Godspeed #Richaxxhaitian - Mach-Hommy Death Jokes - Amen Dunes Songs of a lost world - The Cure Fabulous Soundtracks - Jack Name All born screaming - St.Vincent
Very enjoyable! I don't buy many new releases anymore, but a lot of artists I recognize here. Richard Hawley and Jane Weaver are new to me and sounds like I'll enjoy those. St. Etienne takes me back to the 90's when I was young and groovy: Foxbase Alpha! Caught Ride in concert a few years back as well. Happy New Year! 😎🎶 Ed.
The best list I've seen till now!....and love your tee shirts! Bravissimi!!!
Such a cool list, as a Swede it's nice to see Les Big Byrd in the list, but you guys did well, great bands in it. Cheers
Great to see another Les Big Byrd fan, glad you enjoyed!
three or four albums I missed in 2024 on your list, thanks for the tips
Good to hear, hopefully you find something you like, thanks for watching!
I had never listened to The Go-Betweens before, but I must say I don’t mind "Streets of Your Town."
Grant McLennan was actually born in Rocky. He was a CQ boy. One of their singles, "Cattle and Cane," has a photo of Quay St. A bridge was named after them in Brissie. Streets of Your Town is a great song.
already digging a couple artists i was not familiar with, thanks!
That's great to hear, that's what it's all about. Thanks for watching!
This is a great review guys but why don’t you do us a favour and nominate one or two songs from each album so we could have a listen to see if we like this style? Cheers
We did mention a few songs for most albums in the top ten at least, and a few in the lower region, but we did miss some for sure, just forgot to be honest as we try and keep it spontaneous. We're still getting used to filming ourselves. We figured people would hopefully check them out somewhere and be pointed in the right direction, but point taken. We didn't want to give our choices away in the description, but maybe we can add that now. We're still new at this and learning, in the future we'll try to do that more for sure, thanks for the tip! If you have any you're particularly interested in let us know and we'll reply with a choice cut or two that we missed.
@ thank you. Your favourite track/s on each album is appreciated at any time 😉
OK here are some song recommendations from each album for your listening enjoyment: 1) Bill Ryder-Jones: This Can't Go On / I Know That It's Like This (Baby) 2) The Cure: Warsong / Endsong 3) Jane Weaver: Is Metal / Univers 4) Godspeed You! Black Emperor: Raindrops Cast In Lead 5) Gruff Rhys: Sadness Sets Me Free / Celestial Candyfloss 6) Redd Kross: Candy Coloured Catastrophe / What's In It For You? 7) Nick Cave: Song of The Lake / Frogs Jack White: Old Scratch Blues / Bombing Out 8) The The: Some Days I Drink My Coffee By The Grave of William Blake / Zen & The Art of Dating 9) Ride: Portland Rocks / I Came To See The Wreck 10) Richard Hawley: Prism In Jeans / Deep Space 11) Peter Perrett: I Wanna Go With Dignity / Back In The Hole 12) Les Big Byrd: Diamonds, Rhinestones & Hard Rain / Mareld 13) The Smile: Bending Hectic / Instant Psalm 14) Elbow - Good Blood Mexico City / Lovers' Leap 15) John Cale: How We See The Light / Shark Shark 16) Ian Skelly: You Brought Me Who / Butterfly 17) Ty Segall: Void / My Best Friend 18) Grandaddy: Watercooler / Blu Wav 19) Kilbey Kennedy: Nowhere / The King 20) Saint Etienne: Nightingale / When You Were Young
@ Wow. Thank you so much for doing that. I am going to put them all into Spotify and listen to them immediately. A happy New Year to both of you and keep up the great work. I am totally subscribing to your channel.
@@garygillam8226 Hopefully you find something you like, preferably all of it haha! Happy New Year to you as well!
My personal 10 is not finalised as of yet, but Richard Hawley, The Cure & Peter Perrett all make it... At the moment, Mr Perrett is in pole position, the weird thing is that until about four weeks ago, I knew nothing about it... What a fantastic release... Anyway, thanks for your albums of the year, some food for thought, and several to have a good listen to before I decide... A great list and all very much inside my wheelhouse.... 🎅🎅
You're off to a great start on your list, keep us posted on the final top ten, we'd love to hear it! Hopefully you find something you like from our list you'd never heard of. Cheers!
Will do... 🙂🙂
Cool list. It introduced me to a few that I haven’t heard and need to check out Here is My personal Top 10 Albums of 2024! 1. Frank Turner 2. Alkaline Trio 3. Jack White 4. Japandroids 5. We'll have to check out the ones we're not familiar with for sure, thanks for sharing! Honorable mentions are coming in the next video, along with favorite reissues of the year.
You love...Love, Joy Division and kraut? This is enough for me to subscribe to your channel!!! And here are 5 albums of 2024 worth listening to if you haven't already: Oneida - Expensive Air Porridge Radio - Clouds In The Sky They Will Always Be There For Me Lætitia Sadier - Rooting for Love Beth Gibbons - Lives Outgrown Kamasi Washington - Fearless Movement
Thanks so much, and thanks for your list. Digging what little we've heard from Oneida aldready, will check them out more fully, been around for awhile. Not sure how we missed Laetitia to be honest. Still need to get the Beth Gibbons, way behind on that one. Cheers!
Hi, I loved the show! Great job. Come on, Marc, the Rollers are the best! Love to all!
You two have great taste!
Sounds like you do as well, thanks for watching!
Nice vid, I got my set in last week and just got a chance to sit down and start listening today. I had all these original albums either on vinyl or CD, but the remix/remaster of Oceans Apart is so nice to have. The album is great but the original master was a real travesty - so far it seems the new one is a vast improvement, less compression and the vocals are mixed down some so that the guitars/horns/percussion all come through brighter. Weirdly, some of the songs seem almost like entirely different takes - Darlinghurst Nights for instance is a full 40 seconds shorter than the original release. It seems like they cut out most of the extended fade out that was present on the original track and the horns really sound different (may be just the remix). The Nachtmix 99 live acoustic show is fantastic as well, I had not heard it.
Haven't gotten thru much yet, the first cd, and just played Oceans Apart vinyl. WOW, so different sounding, much more than I thought, sounds really good, more tame but more full sounding at the same time. I'll still keep the original cd and vinyl and do a more full comparison, nice to have both. We never found the original unlistenable, more compressed than it should have been for sure, but there are much worse offenders out there. Another commenter mentioned the London download on the ticket as well, we totally would have missed that if someone hadn't pointed it out. Lots to get through, hopefully you enjoy it as well!
You featured a lot of albums that were not on my radar but seem to be in my wheelhouse. I enjoyed the video. New subscriber. Happy holidays!
That's awesome, hopefully you find some stuff you like on the list. Thanks for the subscription, and Happy Holidays to you as well!
hi just subscribed - i have a few of ypur choices - the cleansing is a great record completes the trilogy of releases ince he came back a few yrs back
Thanks so much, just subbed your channel as well. Yes what a great trilogy for Peter Perrett, with hopefully more to come!
@@MarriedtoVinyl thank you happy new year
Great selection. Les Big Byrd are especially awesome. Love the combination of psyche, kraut and motorik.
That's awesome you're into Les Big Byrd, was hoping somebody else would know that one. If you're not familiar with her, I would check out the Jane Weaver, might be up your alley. Maybe go straight to The Silver Globe from 2014, the song Argent, and then if you like go from there. Some similar vibes to LBB. Cheers!
@ Also agree about Jane Weaver - been a fan of hers since she turned psyche around 2012/3.
Fine picks...Richard Hawley,Ride,And a couple of others /I'm not familiar with My favorites from 2024/No ranking order Imbibio Sound Machine/"Pull the Rope" Nifuler Yanya/"My Method Actor" Paul Heaton/The Mighty Several/(lead singer for The Housemartins) Neil Young/Early Daze
Thanks for watching, hopefully you'll like some of the choices you're not familiar with. Will check out yer faves as well. We love Neil, but haven't heard the first two. Paul Heaton, we are HUGE fans back to the Housemartins/Beautiful South days. Our next video coming up actually will be our Honorable Mentions for the year, and it includes the Mighty Several lp!
I do not know Bill Ryder Jones so I will check that out. Also that Jane Weaver album sounded very interesting I love the way you to play off each other but both have such passion for music. Also the Redd Kross and The Only One T Shirts- top marks for those. So many albums that I am not familiar with which made this a lot of fun. Thank you for the shout out, your channel is a lot of fun
Hopefully you like the Bill Ryder-Jones and Jane Weaver albums, both amazing artist we'd love more people to hear about. Let us know what you think when you do have a listen. We try to wear appropriate T-Shirts for our videos to match the content, we actually discuss what shirts we'll be wearing before we film, total dorks! Thanks again for watching and the shout outs!
Ekko Astral was the best album!
Thanks for the recommendation, we sampled a few songs and liked what we heard, will be checking them out more fully for sure!
@@MarriedtoVinyl You guys are a real fun watch!
Great video, and some killer pickups! Cheers
Thanks for watching, and hopefully you saw something you didn't know about and end up loving!
@ cheers & happy holidays! 🎄😎
An interesting list with plenty of 'I don't know that one' artists and releases. Gee, you are in agreement on so many artists, so which artists does one of you like, but not the other????😀Did I hear one of you say 'Do yourself a favour' ? Molly Meldrum will be claiming a royalty for that one.........🤣Cheers from Oz. John D.
Thanks John, and G'Day to ya, and Molly! Will be checking out your channel as well! Honestly, we like so many of the same artist, probably 90-95%. Mrs. Married To Vinyl is a huge Blur fan, me not so much. She on the other hand doesn't have much love for German band CAN, which I love. Maybe we shouldn't give too much away, that's actually a great idea for a video, coming in 2025 haha!
If you are fans of Yacht Rock, have you heard Page 99-"99.3 Fm" or Dane Donohue-"L.A. Rainbow"?
So many interesting records here! Need to check out the Red Kross, Peter Perrett and Kilbey among others.
Hopefully you find something you like! Thanks for watching.
great list! definitely going to check the ones I'm not familiar with, starting with redd kross
Thanks for watching! Hopefully you find something you enjoy from our list that you didn't already know about!
Hey there and welcome to the VC. Just saw your channel through the Vinyl Tag. Excellent stuff here. Just subbed your channel. Cheers, Darryl.
Thanks for watching, we just subbed your channel as well and will be checking it out!
That Redd Kross shirt is too cool. Their newest Redd Kross album is the only one I don’t have.
Highly recommend the new Redd Kross!
Have loved Redd Kross since the 80's. Having said that, The Only Ones have a solid discography. Peter Perret's solo stuff is also good. These two have exquisite taste. Steve Kilbey/The Church? Prolific, and always wonderful.
@@keithkoenig5320 Thanks for watching and glad you enjoyed. Any fan of Redd Kross/Perrett and The Church is always welcome!
I bought 3 or 4 new releases in 2024.
Fantastic video, great to see you back! I have a suspicion, however, that your Church t-shirt reveals where your true loyalties lie! 😋 Still, you have inspired me to dig into the Go-Betweens' discography. Many thanks! 🙏
Neither one of us has a GoBs tshirt so we had to pick something at least slightly related. We have the church and go-bs represented in our upcoming year end wrap up videos as well, coming soon to a phone near you! If we inspired anyone to revisit the Go-Bs, we did our job. Thanks for watching again, cheers!
@ Looking forward to more vids! 👍
I got my box set this week as well. Domino did a great job on these planning them out so they all look similar with very nice packaging. I agree it’s definitely worth it for Oceans Apart. The only time I saw them together was right after they reformed as a duo at Great American Music Hall in SF. Hope you enjoy.
yeah these boxes are really well done, and the continuity is a nice touch for sure. Time to start digging into the music, hope you enjoy yours as well!
Nice to see the Vol.3 out in the wild - and on my wantlist for sure..........with the books, I wonder if they put a stamp or some sort of ID in them to show where they came from; out of Grant's library? Cheers from Melbourne, Aust. John D.
Those books went quick, we had no chance of getting those. That's a good question on the books though, I think you just have to take their word for it, but maybe Robert gave them some sort of approval of authenticity. Great set and worth getting for sure. I think the other 2 volumes are being reissued next year in case you missed either. Cheers and thanks for watching!
@@MarriedtoVinyl Nice to hear about the reissue, I had not heard that, thanks!
Hey guys. Nice video. Unboxings can be fun to do. I had no idea The Go Betweens had so much output. I'm guessing the other 2 boxes in the background are vols. 1 & 2? Boxed sets are great treasure troves when done right and thoughtfully. Thanks for tagging me on this. Cheers and Merry Christmas to you both from Sydney Oz. 😊😊👍👍
Yeah those are the other two volumes in the background. They released 9 albums total, 6 in during their initial phase and 3 reunion albums, each box covers 3 albums. They're beautiful sets so we're glad to be able to complete the trilogy!
Ziggy stardust, SF Sorrow 🤩 wonderful vinyl tag 2025😊 merry christmas time from France 🎅
Thanks so much for watching, we'll be checking out yours for sure. Merry Christmas!
Glad to find your channel. Great vid! Just subbed :)
Thanks so much! We actually watched your latest room tour video a few months ago before we started our channel, amazing room! Will be checking out your channel for sure!
Great responses to the vinyl tag..
Thanks, will check yours out as well!
Hello guys. I loved this Vinyl Tag video. Watching in 🇬🇧 I'm also a subscriber to 'the So I Married A Record Collecter' channel. 👍
Thanks so much for watching and glad you enjoyed! Just checking out that channel, guess we're not the only married couple out there doing this. Thanks for the heads up, cheers!
San Diego is my hometown. Born and raised! Great video! Love that cure shirt! Spin records is great! I also like Lou’s records in Encinitas and M Theory in Hillcrest! Great video
Spin is a pretty cool store. We stopped at Lou's but didn't find anything, they're pretty much all new nowadays which is a bit of a shame. Our second day we went to Record City and Vinyl Junkies which we really liked, that video is out. We did a third day with Folk Arts and MTheory, that video is coming soon! Thanks for watching!
Great submission, new subscriber here….well you had Talk Talk and Japan so we must be kindred spirits
thanks so much, we subbed yours and will be checking out your tag as well. Any fan of Talk Talk & Japan is always welcome!
Great choices well presented. Subscribed!
Thanks so much, just subbed you as well! Saw on your vinyl tag thumb you had the Sound so we'll be checking that out soon, we love Adrian!
@ Cheers! Your 2 person approach is very engaging and a nice change from all the old white men (oops 😎). I look forward to future sparring over artists and records one of you likes and the other doesn’t, even though I prefer to accentuate the positive. Carpe Diem.
Spirit of Eden back in '88 such a great album by Talk Talk. From the very first moment I thought that i' ve put a wrong lpon the turntable and I've listened to Miles Davies album instead!
I tried to explain Spirit of Eden in our 2nd video after we found it, and think I failed miserably, so hard to describe. But I mentioned avant-garde jazz as an influence, so I think you got it as well!
I have the same copy of Spirit of Eden. It's one of those LP's that sounds better alone, in the dark. I ordered my Your Arsenal from an ad in Goldmine in '92. Still have it as new.
That Spirit of Eden lp sounds so good, we feel lucky to have found such a clean sounding copy, can't be easy these days.
Hey guys enjoyed your tag. My wife sometimes joins me record hunting, she is very supportive of my little hobby but doesn’t partake so much. She will be featuring in a video coming up soon as she will be picking her favourite 10 records out of my collection. Which begs the question do you guys share your record collection or do you have your own separate collections? I will doing the tag in the new year. Liked and subbed 👍
Hi Martin, thanks for watching and the sub, we just subbed you as well. We've watched several of your videos in the past, Amoeba Hollywood caught our attention since we go there frequently so it was interesting to see someone else's take on it. For our collection, we file it all together as one collection. We like about 95% of the same bands, and whatever we buy is ours, we don't think of it as mine or yours if you know what I mean, it's just one collection to us. Cheers!
Great stuff. Really enjoyed your selections. Wonderful to see Not Drowning Waving in the mix. David Bridie is a treasure. Waterfront records were so important to the Australian music scene in the 80s, good on you for pulling that one. What 80s record do you still listen to…what an insane question! Like you, 80s records are constantly on my turntable. You did well to choose one Church album. Loved your tag…thank you.
Thanks so much for watching and glad you enjoyed it. We both love the same Aussie music so it was a no brainer to include those picks. And you can never go wrong with the Church! Yeah, the 80s question was hard as that is our bread and butter for sure. Still listen to? ALL of it was going to be our response!
Great video. Really liked your choices for best bands from your country. Totally agree on NAIHF and I am waiting for the Go Betweens Box Set Vol. 3 to arrive 😊
Thanks for watching, glad you enjoyed it. We're also waiting for our GoBs box set to arrive, can't wait! Maybe we'll do an unboxing as well. Cheers!
lovely show
With your great collection and range you won another sub! Cheers!
Thanks for watching and subbing!
Just subbed! Great vinyl tag video!! I love doing the vinyl tags and seeing new ones. Looking forward to more of your vids.
Thanks for watching, we'll be checking out yours as well!
My daughter is a professor at the University of San Diego. I shall definitely check out these establishments on my next visit. Thanks for highlighting them.
