Sad that Barry isn’t around anymore. I loved his take on things. Rip
Damn, I still miss Barry! RIP Buddy
+Dansyoutube He died from old age
+David Denson how old was he?
+Gianluca Faedda Not young enough. Good the old nut is dead
Wambli Padilla What do you mean? You'd prefer to see him die sooner?
Wambli Padilla he'd kick your punk Ass
What many non-Americans don't seem to realize is that the US has a lot of undeveloped wilderness. (Not as much as Canada or Australia, but still.) If, for whatever reason, you're out in the middle of nowhere with no help around, you have to take charge of your own well-being by providing for your food, water, shelter, warmth and protection from animals. Guns can play a role in that situation, and that's what this video is focusing on. I hate having to spell out the obvious, but apparently there are a lot of oblivious people out there.
jarkoer What obvious to some isn't obvious to others. I totally agree with you though.
+Monster LMA Or schools.
***** wow, appropriate response Really wish I knew how some people can be so idiotic and rude to others, even on the internet. Maybe something to prove.
jarkoer Guess what? We do realise what you are saying, knowledge of Geography in the average European person is generally much better than in the average American! Guns! Simply are not essential for life, as you would have us believe. Dump your gun for a year and see if you can live without it? Do you live among the wild cats and bears? Then move!
jarkoer you can sit and wait all you like my friend, I am sure you will be well armed and will blow the shit out of all who would threaten you.
Me? Welll I never sat and waited for anyone to come at me, but I don't live under the same threat as you Americans do, it would seem.
Take care and good luck.
great thing about the marlin and the Mossberg ,you can't lose the mag.
Like the Boy Scout motto says, "Be prepared." It's a philosophy that applies to EVERYTHING. For example, when I ride my bike, I wear a helmet and have a saddlebag with a first aid kit. Does this make me an extremist, or lunatic? Nope; because if I need it, I have it. So, this is why one should have a basic survival kit. One who is prepared doesn't seem so extreme after the unprepared person finds themselves wanting in a dire situation.
Indeed. I see people talk poorly about the idea that our society could be thrown into chaos, and the need for survival knowledge would make itself useful....however, if there's one thing that history teaches us, it's that there's good times and bad for mankind. Do modern industrialized nations have it pretty good? Sure, but does that mean that a natural disaster couldn't change that in a heartbeat? Of course not. There are many plausible scenarios in which the "SHTF": supervolacnoes, wide-scale earthquakes, a comet striking the planet, an unusually strong solar flare could destroy the electric grid, economic meltdown, etc etc. Why is it that people tend to think that these things could never happen when they DO happen at regular intervals on our planet? With so many plausible situations in which law enforcement and Walmart cannot guarantee our safety/sustenance, I'd guess it's better to be prepared just in case.
Yep. Just remember, though, if you wish to be taken seriously, refrain from putting the word "zombie" anywhere on your kit. That word is just between you and the kit, lol!
Goattacular Boy Scouts suck
Goattacular x
Bruh you carry a survival kit when riding a bicycle? That's kinda a bit overreacting tbh...
Man these were the years to be a fan of this channel. Barry and Eric together was an epic combo. Absolute tragedy what happened.
What happened pls tell me I’ve been watching for awhile now
@@glock1126 Barry had a heart attack
R.I.P Barry we miss you
What happened?
connell687 Barry past away a while back
:(
Aw damn, I liked Barry. These guys were a good team.
Just an honest old fashioned American!
Anyone here since the Covid 19 situation ? 🤣
John Michael Perez human nature man ...
Yep
I'm just looking for ideas on a new gun
I’m here because of the government’s actions which were unwarranted and making matters worse.
Steve Wilkos' Abused Chair I hear that.... I managed to pick up a mossberg 590 A1, Glock 17, Glock 19 and a M&P 15 sport 2 2000 rounds of 9mm 300 rounds of slugs and bird shot and 1000 rounds of 223
I've got a camo Henry, it's surprising how well it shoots. Excellent weapon to throw in the daypack or wilderness pack.
The Henry is awesome and the fact that it floats makes it the best option in the wilderness. The new version comes with two 8 round cartridges!!!!!!! The quality is superb and you have Hanry's lifetime warranty, can't beat that...........
Love your videos, very informative. I am definitely a fan! keep up the good work!
I thank you for making videos like this because the are still so many people who get easily confused about what would be good for survival.
The AR7... From my own experience, I would recommend sighting it in using a bench and support, and, using a good quality epoxy, secure the front sight blade with the epoxy. Over time, the plastic front sight blabe will tend to loosen and drift. I've had 2 and had the same malfunction with both. The last one moved out of adjustment when I bumped it pulling out of the stock.
OH! And, unlike James Bond, I haven't haven't had an opportunity to shoot down any helicopters with mine... YET!
if you get lucky and find some odd primers, powder and shot in the wilderness, you can reload your shotgun shells, SO TELL ME WHAT ARE THE CHANCES OF THAT HAPPENING unless you somehow got lost in the gun store bathroom.
Hunting camps. You would be surprised.
Primers powder can be made with matcheads and striker powder,it's called armstrong mix and it is impact sensitive
Some BRITS break the law by using MATCH HEADS TO RELOAD 9MM 38SW etc to for makeing primers and powder theres videos their good enough to shot a enemy and take his weapon and gear...yes you can reloads during SHTF CARRY A PACK WITH POWDER AND SHOT AND PRIMERS AND EQUIPT...OR MAYBE A 500 RD BRICK OF GOOD 22lr..used to hunt with a good shot could be armed for a few years..500 critters rabbits to deer is a lot of food. Light wgt too. When i was growing up in Fairbanks i got a MARLIN 39A LEVER ACTION 22 FOR my 8TH 1956 BIRTHDAY..IF my DAD BOUGHT ME a 50RD BOX of 22 lr AND i ONLY ACCOUNTED FOR 48 CRITTERS killed to eat I GOT SPANKED. 1 shot 1 kill.
...
you know you can buy shotgun shell loading kits? not that steep either
Very nice video guys. There are so many guns and yet some people swear that there are only 1 or 2 in each category that beat everything. You were informative, lively and it felt like a casual discussion yet honest in your opinions and assessments.
I really enjoy your clips. Thank you, guys.
love the video, i totally agree. the only thing that you forgot is a remington 700
for the tube fed .22 you can use straws as speedloaders tape or staple one end of the straw over and load the .22s into it so when u run out pull out the rod drop em down and your back in action
you guys are awesome, im new at this hobby and you guys put a lot of info thats been very helpful thanks a bunch
LOVE these videos, its 2017 and im just seeing this one, im a newer viewer, well ive been watching for about a year now.. but catching up on older vids now.. Love everything yous post
Am I the only one that thinks a mosin nagant is a VERY good survival rifle? It can take down just about anything: deer, elk, moose, hog, cougar, brown and black bears, and if you need to people. Its very rugged and reliable. To clean it, you can tie knots in some paracord, and dip it in motor oil and just yank it right though the barrel, hell that's what the red army did(a plus side to that is, dogs can't smell it like that, they smell for gun cleaner not oil). Ammo for it is still very cheap, I can get a spam can of 440 rds for about $100 give or take, and most of them are under $250. Yea you will need a shotgun for some game, but a shotgun won't hit a deer at 20p yds.
nope, mosin nagant is the best friggin survival rifle out there, and it wont take down a moose or bear, sorry
headshots can take down anything
exept a bear, then you want to shoot the chest of it when it stands up
albert mank
a mosin can so take a moose or bear. ive seen it as long as you have good shot placement you can take down anything.
Ruebon Cogburn sorry, what i meant was 200 yrds, i was using an iphone posted this
As always, nice video.
I definitely would never cross out the Maverick 88. The fact that it uses (most of) the same parts as the 500 makes it easy to keep up and running. Easy maintainable and lots of upgrades make it well worth it.
I own a Remington nylon 66 I bought new over forty year ago and it still fires great! Light as a feather and plenty accurate enough. Holds fourteen rounds and functions flawlessly. I do admire that Henry takedown a lot though-they are truly cool.
I love all your videos. Very informative and helpful. Keep them coming!
I am watching this video, again after 6 years.... Barry..... God bless his soul.
Love the flair gun insert idea. I'm putting together a theoretical $1000 "survival in a bag" kit and it's just gone in the list. Personally I beleive flares are an essential as is a backup firearm so killed 2 birds with one stone.
love your videos keep them coming. Sure will miss Barry he was very knowledgeable on guns an ammunition he also was a great personality
Thanks guys! Amazing video! You’re amazing people too!
I have one of those Henry Survival Rifles (mines is old as F’ and made by a different company). I hope they have gotten better over the years, because mine really is a POS. It’s a fun plunked, but I would NEVER depend on it. It won’t feed half the time and won’t extract the other half.
Now my 10-22.... that’s a dependable gun
The new ones are great
mine was the same junk sold it for 70bucks. jams and jams.
Id love to carry that last .22 around in a camper, or in the back of my pick up truck..... but sure as hell id forget about having it when I crossed the US boarder somewhere lol
🤣
warrenlikesboats what're you some kinda illegal
I enjoyed this video. Great information. Very useful.
Watching this reminded me about a gripe I had with shotguns in survival situations/SHTF scenarios. They are kinda impractical for long term use unless you are working out from your home due to the amount of ammo you can carry. Shotgun shells are not small and take a lot of room in a pack so carrying them about is kinda impractical for long term. They do make good guns to have if you have a place to store a lot of shells and have easy access to them, but not for any long term bug out stuff.
A gun that no one seems to talk about is the Mossberg 702 Plinkster. It's just as accurate and cheap as the Marlin M60,and is magazine fed like the 10/22. And it's cheaper than both of them! And there's also the Remington 597!!
Whäs Spedtzerthal ТГт correct but most people are gonna go with what everybody has
I picked up a savage mk2 for 80 bucks at a pawn shop....lol they couldnt sell it for a bit and they kept knockin the price down. Just couldnt pass on that deal.
TexMex I want one but I’d get one left handed to make it even better
You can get marlin model 60's in semi auto magazine fed versions... Hell I really enjoy a savage 64.. you can get em all day long for 149$ ....... Also.. RIP Barry - I loved ya brother , you were a good man
strocat25 it's not a Model 60 but they do have a magazine fed semi-automatic
strocat25 theres no model 60 magazine fed
strocat25 the 795 marlin can get 30rd mags and a 70rd drum great rifle got one.
I agree with his points on shotguns. Before moving to the city I used to wander around the woods with a shotgun slung over my shoulder and a gutting knife in my boot. Miss those times.
I have the Henry Survival Rifle and its a killer little rig for an easy carry around. I have the Maverick 88 as well and its a workhorse. Great video!
they do make speed loaders for the model 60 basically is is a tube that you fill with 22 rounds kind of neat I thought
+Dodge Mustang I like mine also can't really beat them for the price and the better barrel than the 10/22 imo with the micro groves
What about the Springfield Armory M6 Survival Gun?! They're completely made just for survival
+Walter Shmitty oh, you were only talking about guns under 300...
Love your videos guys but I gotta say I am gonna be watching them with captions on now!!!!!! informative and funny!
Another fantastic video gentlemen. Thanks!
Vote Barry for awesome 2016
He is dead.
Kenny dead people can't be awesome?
Nathan Frisque he was awesome man I'm not disagreeing with you at all I miss seeing him very much. He added a very intelligent vibe too all the videos
its always good to listen to tens of years of experience
+Kenny true
RIP buddy
great vid guys keep up the good work!!!
Thanks and keep up the good work ! Your channel provides great info for people like me ,
wheres the AK47s at, tribes in africa been living of them for years
He said under $300
+Jackson Flinn Outdoors in Africa there only worth two chickens
meh. a repeating shotgun with a 30" barrel and two inderchangable chokes, a impr. cylinder 8/10 and a full 0/10 and a secondary 61 cm. smooth slug barrel. would perform better at almost all realistic scenarios
THANK YOU! I am sick of hearing bullshit from people who don't know jackshit about gun and think ak is a magical bullet factory that destroys everything in its wake and AR15 based guns are trash that jam alll the time
AR and AK are two totally different guns. AK were made for bigger bullet more mass but AR are more accurate but little less mass in bullet. That is just one thing in difference you should look up GY6vids video about AR and AK he has good points on them.
will yall do a top 5 guns to get in order of importance? please.
for people who can't afford to get them all at once. and maybe how much ammo to get for each b4 saving up for the next one?
Love ur vids! Keep them coming, God bless
Great videos guys. Very helpful. Thank you!
I mean no offense to Moss Pawn but the new videos just aren't the same without Barry guys.
I agree. Some of the change has been improvement, what with budget and such, but the discussions with Barry were always interesting.
U could tell berry cared about his veiwers and customers
Where is your guys shop at and do you sell to out of state guys?
They don’t sell guns. Read the description.
@@mondobananas1832 moss does sell guns
I noticed and appreciate the alternate camera footage. Good stuff.
My first gun was a $180 Remington 870 Express after i got my first real job at 19, back in 1997. Still have it, still shoot the heck out of it. Have killed a buttload of pheasants/chukar/sporting clays with it. Have since gone to a cheap over/under, much easier on my bad back, so i'm thinking of converting my 870 to home defense shotty.
Good video!
I've been interested in WW2 history for almost as long as I knew what it was and I'ld like to point out that there seems to be no historic evidence of any of any Japanese landing on the mainland of Alaska during the war.
There was a small fleet that was sent to the region in an attempt to draw the Americans away from the actaul combat areas as a decoy measure that failed for the most part.
One of the most significant things that occured during that time was the loss of a Japanese Zero fighter that crashed on an island off the coast and was later recovered in almost perfect condition by the Americans which lead to a greater understanding of how to build a fighter that later ruled the Pacific Theater of war.
If there is proof of Japanese soldiers on the mainland I would love that information as I know that I learn new things almost every day!
They landed in the Aleutian Islands, I know personally a veteran of that short lived campaign.
That is the decoy action I was talking about but those arent really considered mainland Alaska. That Japanese task force wasn't an invasion force in the proper sense, thier mission was the take main elements of the US fleet out of the real combat zone.
The Zero Fighter that was recovered from the Aleutian Islands helped changed the fighters of the day that the USA were fielding in the pacific Theatre.
In the video they did.
Officially, and with all the records I know of, the Japanese never made it to the mainland. In fact, some of the times the Inuits would kill the Japanese with the 22 pistol.
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Operation_Cottage
Does any of these guns come with a tent that deploys itself because that is what you call a survival gun
What I like about the shotgun for SHTF besides its versatility is that you can reload a shotgun shell with about anything from cut up nails to split shots he'll even rocks
Subbed, these guys are straight, and to the point.
And u must have a good knife.
WHY.I'LL SAY IT FOR YA,''DUH...
Bowie
rock merchant drop point, bowie is only good for if you have a horse
@@Kill-It-Skin-It-Wear-It what is the point of a Bowie? I'd prefer a machete or an hatchet combo with a smaller full tang knife. Bowie just seems like your trying to compensate for something
H. C. The bowie is good for cleaning out a horses hoof if need be, that’s what the clip is for on the tip. It’s not actually as useful today as say a drop point. From a nostalgia standpoint it’s pretty neat though.
The point of a bowie is also found near the front of the knife.
I love how when people think survival, they think guns. But sadly ammo costs and will run dry. So always include a good knife or other blade in you kit. You will never run dry with those. And they are more versatile. Just a thought.
Nice video,i own a Mossberg mav 88 ,really happy with it.Keep it up.Creetings from Greece.
Great list, and all of these guns are very affordable, plus the ammo for these selected is also affordable and very abundant. This list meets all the criteria for the common man.
Best survival guns:
Handgun - p226/glock 17
Shotgun: remington 870/benelli m3
Rifle: izhmash/zastava ak for 7.62 by 39
Bolt action: remington 700
My loadout (which I own):
Handgun: Tarus PT111
Shotgun: Maverick 88
Rifle: SKS
Illusive Man My loadout (which I own):
Rifle: DPMS Oracle ar15
Survival rifle: Mossberg 702 (22lr)
Pistol: Glock 21 (45 acp)
Concealed: SCCY cpx- 2 (9mm)
Good choices, but, Mossberg 500, because if the extractor breaks, the Remington 870 must be sent to a gunsmith. Mossberg can be replaced by the user. And the Remington 700 is too expensive. The Remington 710 or 770 provides almost as good accuracy (for the non-sniper trained) for half the money. The 226 is perfect. AK ditto but I also have a 7.62X54 AK (VEPR), that kicks a$$. But I would definitely stay with the Russian made AK.
Who dafuq did yo hairline bruh!😂
Stfu
Lol
Vegeta
Ethan the Hoonigan lmfao
Magneto’s helmet
my dad has had a marlin model 60 that he didn't clean for 20+ years. I took it apart and there was literally chunks of powder built up. The thing never had any hang ups. A great little gun.
Great video guys! The Alaskan Unit you mentiones was the Alaskan Territorial Guard (ATG), sometimes called the Eskimo Scouts.
What about bow and arrow?
2018!!! Who else??? 🔫😎
Man, I would’ve loved to have met Barry.. such a knowledgeable man!
Always great info. Thanks!
The Henry AR-7 Survival Rifle, um it even says survival in the name, folds entirely into the stock check it out...
It was in the video dude or did you even watch it
What would you rather be stuck on an island with, an 18lb bow with 10 arrows or a 22 pistol with one half full clip? If u choose the 22, what pistol would it be, and why? And if you choose the bow, why?
bow of course. you can reuse arrows and make new ones if you need to
true but, an 18 bl bow is not that strong.
If you're the only guy there, why do you need a weapon?
If it was an island (I'm assuming of the tropical persuasion), then you're probably not going to be dealing with large animals anyway. Mostly birds and smaller animals. Also, I would most likely forgo hunting in favor of fishing most of the time, as the ocean can often be a much better provider than the land, and I won't have to move inland, allowing me to also look for a rescue boat while fishing. The bow can be used for hunting small game and birds (which, again, is most likely all you'll find on an island), and it can also be used for fishing with enough practice. Meanwhile the gun's bullets would ricochet off the water, and lose most of their power if they did go in. So the bow is much more versatile. And as previously mentioned, you can reuse the arrows and craft new ones. And if by some stroke of luck there did turn out to be larger game on the island, then you can always set traps or deadfalls for them, or you can simply make a larger bow from the resources around you.
Bow, any day, because you can just increase the power of any bow by strapping flexible tree limbs to the front of the bow
The Ruger Mark III is the most reliable semi-auto .22lr I've ever owned (rifles and pistols included). They are expensive compared to other .22lr options but after I bought mine, I feel in love. It is more accurate than my 10/22 so it has replaced my 10/22 for hunting purposes. It's also allot more fun to shoot!!!
It’s been a good few months since I’ve seen y’all’s videos it’s nice to be back
shooting a bunny with a shotgun will not help me survive. It´ll ruin diner.
It really depends on what kind of shell you're putting in the shotgun
+Ken Ny Why do you even bother? Clearly that guy knows nothing about hunting. lol
+C-K0r For real?
E Nemeth You are right, and I was wrong. Apparently is the air pressure that kill the animal. I have learned yay for me.
However I do believe a rifle would be better for large game, and traps better for small (and large). To conserve ammo.
+C-K0r u should try small game hunting with a .22 air rifle noone like airguns but damn , it do the job ammo are cheap and u can carry like 10000 of them no probleme and really quiet
Isn't it Maverick 88??
Carperbagger
Best survival firearms review video I've watched!
I use the savage 42 takedown it has a .22 barrel for small game and a 410 shotgun barrel for self defense/large game. It also breaks in half to fit into a backpack.
Survival situation.... Please. Closest survival situation Americans deal with is no internet.
We also have guns to keep pests like you off
Joshua Ayers South Americans have to deal with some serious gang issues
Joshua Ayers for right now at least.
some of us are watching what is happening in the rest of the world and wondering when is it going to happen to us
Derrick Ivery Never. dont worry about it there is plenty of food in USA hahaha trust me. mmm
Good point on the chamber inserts for a break open 12 or 20 ga. The most practical ones would probably be 357 and 9mm, since those are very common handgun rounds and likely to be found everywhere. I think the inserts are about 8" long. So u are liable to get some ballistic gain. Once the bullet leaves the insert i am sure it stops accelerating, because the gases spread out into the larger bore. Still a useful item though, and compact. I've been wanting to get a single shot specifically to have fun with that. Good point on the flare gun inserts too.
I am glad in this video, you included the word "ideal" in the title. Truthfully any working firearm with a decent amount of ammo in such a scenario is going to vastly improve your odds versus all the stupid people without any form of weapon.
Knowledge is power. Tysm for the information.
a classic vid, came across this researching the ar7 for a corp. greyman bag. rip barry!
beautiful pieces you showed
and your knowledge about them is impeccable
greetings from germany
Awesome list
I love your videos keep them coming
Cool video, thanks guys.
Awesome video. You guys do a great job.
Finicky with afterarket magazines
Nice to see this video again. Barry was the man! Reminds me of the Johnny Cash song Ain't no grave that can hold my body down.
Barry needs his own playlist just for some IV8888 nostalgia
You guys really inspire me teach me more about guns and if I could ask a favor if u guys could make a 5 guns video about pistols
And that's great, for you. In a survival type situation (I've done a lot of backwoods self sufficient camping) I stick to Small Game, because a Deer is 2 days of work, while a Pika is done with in less than 2 hours. In those situations, my weapon of choice was a Baikal .22 Air Rifle, because I can carry 500 rounds in a hocky puck, and recast them (Gas check Minnie Balls) in the field. .30-06 is a fine round, no dispute. If it works for you, stick to it. That's why there's so many choices...
i really like how yall are sensible and look ar prices
i am very glad someone else shares the same respect for a .410, ive had a .410 for years and its defintly in my top 3
You guys are great.
God bless you!
Thank you for making this video.
Always great information
Great vid thanks!
One of the best combo's Ive found for survival are a .45acp carbine and pistol. The heavy bullet will down game up to 200 yds and it is one of the best defensive cartridges as well. Id add a 12 ga and .22 pistol
THANKS FOR ALL YOUR COOL VIDS....
TAKE CARE
you guys make good videos.. very down to earth
My best survival gun chiappa M6 combo .12 - .22wmr its a nice foldable survival rifle and u can fit ammo in the stock and a cleaning kit also included in the stock but the henry ar7 looks like a good one only .22lr caliber but i need to try it good video guys , thumbs up , continue good work !
