    the best video of how pid controller works ever, great job! what you said at the end is the most interesting for me..... because if there was a some sort of blackbox log that could tell you if you are pushing your motor/esc to the limit you could translate that to your max d gain that your quad can handle and therefore having the *perfect tune*. let me know what you think of my assumption.

      Thanks! You can already see this via the motor outputs graphs in Blackbox, which is indeed a good way to see how much D-gain is needed to saturate the motors.

      Chris Rosser and UAV Tech have a similar/same approach to PID tuning. Their approaches are the best in terms of error minimization in my opinion.

    I see to many people flying with aggressive PIDs which makes the quad act like a CNC machine and seem like a stilted robot in the air. It's just me, but I want some slop and play going on... I don't want it acting like a lasar cutter stopping on a 5th position decimal degree position exactly. IMHO most of your attention you be focused on dialing in your rates, and just forgetting about the PID controller. If you're starting out your quad is flying awful o you not because of the PID controller, but because your rates are wrong for your brain.
    It took me about 1000 hours of flying in the Sim to really nail down my rates or rather...r ate ranges. Yeah, that long. You're just never going to be able to get them perfect flying real hardware in under a hundred hours in the air. You can get them close enough that you think you got them perfect, but they're at 80 to 90 percent of perfect and you just think you got them perfect. I thought mine were perfect ofr me after 500 hrs... it took me another 500 horus to polish them off that extra 10%-15% (which was not that far off, but makes a world of differentce).
    No rate is perfect for every scenario or flying situation or field. Having the right rate for the right type of place and field or location or situation though can and will make a world of difference... between some things being impossible, and the same maneuvers or things being.. trivial... with the right rates.It takes a while to realize this, that one rate does not fit all situations, nor one Super. In a big wide open space, you want a lively quad... unless you are doing cinematic cruising... then you want super low rates. If youre in a tight enclosed space, sometimes you want low rates, soemtimes you want low rates that are a tad bit livelier to make sharp turns, etc.
    I say skip messing with the PID numbers for the first 1500 hours of learning to fly. Others will tell you get into it immediately to turn your quad right after the first maiden but I'm like... meh, you can fly bad PIDs, but if you fly bad rates without ever changing them it's going to stilt your learning for your entire career. If you really want to get into all that mess, well, Chris Rosser and some others will really get into the ugly and involved fine tuning of it. ruclips.net/video/WoxDbIbpP_Q/видео.html

      An aggressive tune can make unsmooth/unskilled pilots look worse but also gives skilled/precise/smooth pilots better control of the aircraft. I personally use an aggressive tune, so you can decide for yourself how robotic my flying looks.
      I agree that beginners should only bother with rates and not PIDs. The defaults are good enough that a beginner will probably have a hard time discerning the default tune from an aggressive tune. However, a good PID tune will provide a level of control and confidence that rates tuning cannot provide, so those who want the best aircraft performance should tune the PIDs in addition to the rates.
