Jon was safe at the wall (or as safe as he could be) all those dreams always came after fights with Robert over Dany. This is taken from assumptions based on many quotes. Barristan believed a Stark was the father of Ashara's child. He says in the books that if he'd made his feelings known, she may have looked to him instead of Stark. Many people mention that Ashara danced with both Ned and Brandon... Meera Reed wonders who the father of her child was, mentioning that it could have been the Quiet Wolf (Ned) or the Wild Wolf (Brandon). My own assumption from reading all the books is that Brandon was more appealing to a girl like Ashara than Ned would have been. He was extremely good looking, very charming and a bit of a womanizer. Ned was younger, extremely shy, and I think if he'd slept with Ashara, a highborn noble lady he would have married her like Robb did Jeyne. We know Brandon had a history of sleeping with noble girls and walking away. He did this while he was promised to Catelyn even.
