I hated the salted caramel cashew milk one😡 o tried to get an apple pie with caramel flavor but I did not like that ice cream at all. So delicious vanilla bean coconut milk is definitely a win
Not a lot of vegan options in my area, but Ben & Jerry's is my tried and true. I hardly bother with anything else. Their almond milk line is sooooo good, especially their chocolate chip cookie dough. Aldi's store brand vanilla almond milk ice cream is great, but unfortunately it's one of their seasonal offerings.

I don't usually like things overly sweet, but I think the salted caramel cashewmilk bars from So Delicious are soooo good! The chocolate shell is the perfect balance of bittersweetness and melts in your mouth, and the salty caramel kind of offsets the sweetness of the ice cream. I honestly couldn't believe it when you spit it out. I love all their cashewmilk ice creams.

I don't know why, but the Oatly raspberry swirl tastes so much better than the other flavors. It's creamier with more flavor. Best vegan ice cream I've had.
The 365 chocolate peanut butter swirl one is in my top faves because of that peanut butter swirl..its so thick, kinda salty..makes the whole ice cream worth it. and they don't make it difficult to get big spoonfuls of the peanut butter. Also, the only SoDelicious ice cream I get is their CASHEWMILK version of Salted Caramel! It is lifechanging. I've tried their other flavors/alternative milks and they are just not as good as the cashewmilk salted caramel
I never had the peanut butter one because I eat it frequently enough outside of ice cream, the salted caramel one you mentioned is literally my favorite though lol
NEW ICE CREAM BRAND ALERT - I worked for a new dairy free ice cream for one of my consulting classes, it's called SweetPea and its made from chickpea protein! It's a heck of a lot more creamy than usual plant-based ice cream and it doesn't have that weird aftertaste, please try it, they deserve more awareness!!
When I got diagnosed with chemical fragrance allergy the first thing my doctor told me was that I couldn’t have ice cream because artificial flavors always and natural flavors almost always contain perfume! For some reason she primarily associated that with ice cream…So the suntan lotion and toothpaste flavor comparisons make sense on a chemical level. I’m not vegan but I’ve been so happy to find some Oatly vegan ice creams without the perfume aka flavors and for FODMAP friendliness.
For anyone that lives in Texas, I highly recommend the HEB brand dairy free ice cream. I just recently tried it and the vanilla flavor is hands down the best ever vegan ice cream I've tasted. I have tasted a few of their other flavors too and they were all yummy
Merle, I'm curious about how long these ice creams were sitting out. A lot of vegan ice creams (esp. coconut milk) are downright icy straight from the fridge. Even my favorite (Ben & Jerry's) benefits from a 20 second zap in the microwave.
On an unrelated note Trader Joe's vegan ice cream is weirdly, but nicely,creamy even IN the freezer. I thought my freezer was broken but everything else was frozen as it should be
I def didn't zap any of them, but most were out for at least 5-10 minutes. but to be honest, most were melting too fast - only a few were solid like blocks

Can you try Vegan Yogurt ranking? I went to the store and there were soo.. many vegan Yogurt brands. ( SoDelicious also has a brand that I tried, which I would say is pretty spot on to dairy Yogurt)

man, I'm amazed at how many options you have over there! I'm of the mindset "if it's delicious and vegan, why bother with the non-vegan alternative?". So far ice cream, chocolate and cheese are the ones I haven't found a replacement for. Meat? Don't need it. Milk? Don't drink it. Cheese will probably be impossible, but I'll definitely give Oatly and Ben&Jerry's ice cream a try. Doesn't have to mimic dairy ice cream as long as it's yummy
for ice cream, ben and jerrys is also my go to. i personally am a huge fan of the milk and cookies flavor, i've had the dairy version and non dairy and i feel like they taste identical. for ice cream bars the magnum non dairy are AMAZING. 😃

I'm not sure if you have it in the US but Swedish glace is genuinely the best! It's been our for YEARS like my mum used to eat it before she was vegan 20 years ago and my non-vegan friends love it!

I gotta say the PB cookie Ben & Jerry's is my favourite. And they've taken it away in Australia as well as the coffee fudge chunk and the almond caramel (which granted was an acquired flavour only if you like marzipan) and the 7 layer bar and the netflix and chilled... all the good stuff.

I can try to hunt some down!! The Cado, Oatly, and soy milk So Delicious are nut free. Sadly, these were most of the ones I could find near me BUTTTT I will absolutely keep that in mind for rankings and recipes that I make for the channel!!
Out of the vegan ice creams I’ve tried, Ben & Jerry’s is by far my favorite. I’m not surprised how you ranked the So Delicious, I’d agree that their cashew milk ice creams are far better because of texture. BTW, you might try the So Delicious cashew milk ice cream in salted caramel cluster. It and the snickerdoodle cashew milk ice cream you tried are the only two So Delicious ice creams I’ll buy. Or course, now I’m going to have to finally try a few of the others you tested…
If you do another one, the breyers oat milk ice cream is literally the best I’ve had. I’ve been vegan for 4 years and it was insane when I first tried it!! The vanilla is literally better than every other ice cream I’ve tried. AND the chocolate cado ice cream is also amazing!!!!!

Ben & Jerry's does vegan ice cream so well. I love the almond brittle flavor and Colin Kaepernick's Change the Whirled. Kind bar makes plant based ice cream bars that are INSANE though...those are my all time fave.

It’s so funny how different people’s preferences can be! The Ben and Jerry’s ice creams are all way too sweet for me, yet I love the SoDelicious salted caramel ice cream bars. To each there own I guess!
I keep finding that dairy free ice creams are hit or miss based on flavor rather than brand if that makes sense. Like tofutti makes a bangin vanilla but their chocolate is eh. Stop and shop brand coconut milk mint chip POPS OFF but their vanilla is eh. Cannot stand the Oatly cookies and cream but the raspberry SLAPS 😭
I swear when that Cado ice cream came out it was less gummy. It’s definitely not as good as I remember it being, but the chocolate tastes better than the mint.
I was gonna say something about their vanilla flavor, but I'm betting Merle wouldn't like that either (although I know for a fact it's not that sweet). And she definitely wouldn't like the salted caramel flavor.
I hate that when brands come out strong and their product soon declines. You think you find a unicorn product and then it's just mediocre. Blue Diamond's Cayanne pepper almonds were like that when they first came out last year. I would CRAAAAAVVE them. Now they're just ok.
I have 2 Ben & Jerry's recs. "Milk" and Cookies and Americone Dream. One is made from sunflower seed butter, the other is made from almond milk. My husband eats vegan ice cream because just doesn't do well with dairy. I've tried both of these flavors and thoroughly enjoy them. Very comparable to dairy ice cream(imo).
Hey Merle - it's super handy seeing your reviews. Do you mind trying out a Vegan Cheese review? A cheese that tastes fine raw (cold) and melted onto a dish (pizza, sandwich, etc).
For vegan cheese🧀 Chao (the original flavor). For vegan ice cream 🍦 I would have to say nada moo (coffee flavor) along with Planet oat (chocolate chip cookie dough).
If you can find it in the USA, try the ROAR brand vegan ice cream! Their hazelnut ice cream is amazing! And this coming from someone who's NOT a Vegan in the first place ;)
The Van Leewen brand is in my opinion the most consistently good everytime. They are my absolute favorite. They taste better than any ice cream I had before I went vegan and after I went vegan.
I've had almost all of these vegan ice-cream and interestingly find Nadamoo and So Delicious not as sweet as Ben and Jerry's / Van Leeweun / 365 :o I think the actual amount of added sugar adjusted for serving size supports this observation as well!
Jeni’s has some of my favorite vegan ice cream. Especially the cold brew with coconut cream because it’s so hard to find a vegan coffee flavored ice cream. The price is the killer on it though. So expensive but damn it tastes good.
I'm not vegan, vegetarian or dairy free but the Ben & Jerry's vegan banana toffee flavour is the best thing I have ever had in my life and I honestly had no idea it was vegan till like my third time buying it lol, idk how their other vegan flavours are but that one blew my mind
I’m not vegan but Planet Oat and Ben and Jerry’s non dairy are my two absolute favorite brands. Planet oat, I’ve yet to have a bad one. It’s not Ben and Jerry’s level, I can tell it’s made with oat milk but it almost makes it creamier without being too overpoweringly “oat tasting”
If youre ever in Toronto try Honey's vegan ice-cream (totally vegan brand despite their name). They are a local business and they make my favourite vegan ice-cream ever. My personal recommendation is their earl grey flavour but many are amazing, creamy, decidant and not too sweet
The So Delicious chocolate cookies and cream has cashew milk and it is my ultimate favorite. I think it tastes better than any dairy ice cream I’ve ever had.
Coolhaus Horchata non dairy ice cream sandwich is my absolute favorite reward for when i grocery shop and van leeuwens is always great...i have their Frose in my freezer right now💚

We have a brand here called So Good, its literally 99% water and sugar with the rest of the ingredients being a little bit of soy protein and flavouring lol. Both the vanilla and chocolate flavours taste like straight up ice lol
Highly recommend Kind Peanut Butter Dark Chocolate Frozen Treat Bars … especially if anyone is missing Snickers Ice Cream Bars or chocolate/peanut/caramel in general :)
Oatly for pretty much all their products, it tends to not really be particularly similar to the dairy equivalent of the product, but basically always it’s its own really delicious thing. It can be used similarly to the dairy one, but the taste is very different but also very yummy.

Out of the vegan ice creams I’ve tried, Ben & Jerry’s is by far my favorite. I’m not surprised how you ranked the So Delicious, I’d agree that their cashew milk ice creams are far better because of texture. BTW, you might try the So Delicious cashew milk ice cream in salted caramel cluster. It and the snickerdoodle cashew milk ice cream you tried are the only two So Delicious ice creams I’ll buy. Or course, now I’m going to have to finally try a few of the others you tested…

If you do another one, the breyers oat milk ice cream is literally the best I’ve had. I’ve been vegan for 4 years and it was insane when I first tried it!! The vanilla is literally better than every other ice cream I’ve tried.

If you're ever in Seattle or Erewhon in LA, try Frankie and Jo's - it's seriously the best vegan ice cream out there. Definitely pricey, but worth it.

Ben & Jerry's does vegan ice cream so well. I love the almond brittle flavor and Colin Kaepernick's Change the Whirled. Kind bar makes plant based ice cream bars that are INSANE though...those are my all time fave.

I keep finding that dairy free ice creams are hit or miss based on flavor rather than brand if that makes sense. Like tofutti makes a bangin vanilla but their chocolate is eh. Stop and shop brand coconut milk mint chip POPS OFF but their vanilla is eh. Cannot stand the Oatly cookies and cream but the raspberry SLAPS 😭

I swear when that Cado ice cream came out it was less gummy. It’s definitely not as good as I remember it being, but the chocolate tastes better than the mint.
I was gonna say something about their vanilla flavor, but I'm betting Merle wouldn't like that either (although I know for a fact it's not that sweet). And she definitely wouldn't like the salted caramel flavor.

I have 2 Ben & Jerry's recs. "Milk" and Cookies and Americone Dream. One is made from sunflower seed butter, the other is made from almond milk. My husband eats vegan ice cream because just doesn't do well with dairy. I've tried both of these flavors and thoroughly enjoy them. Very comparable to dairy ice cream(imo).
Hey Merle - it's super handy seeing your reviews. Do you mind trying out a Vegan Cheese review? A cheese that tastes fine raw (cold) and melted onto a dish (pizza, sandwich, etc).
For vegan cheese🧀 Chao (the original flavor). For vegan ice cream 🍦 I would have to say nada moo (coffee flavor) along with Planet oat (chocolate chip cookie dough).
As someone who is both allergic to tree nuts AND is lactose intolerant, Oatly is literally my only option that I sorta like.

The Van Leewen brand is in my opinion the most consistently good everytime. They are my absolute favorite. They taste better than any ice cream I had before I went vegan and after I went vegan.
I've had almost all of these vegan ice-cream and interestingly find Nadamoo and So Delicious not as sweet as Ben and Jerry's / Van Leeweun / 365 :o I think the actual amount of added sugar adjusted for serving size supports this observation as well!
Nadamoo is my favorite because it has such little sugar!

Jeni’s has some of my favorite vegan ice cream. Especially the cold brew with coconut cream because it’s so hard to find a vegan coffee flavored ice cream. The price is the killer on it though. So expensive but damn it tastes good.
I'm not vegan, vegetarian or dairy free but the Ben & Jerry's vegan banana toffee flavour is the best thing I have ever had in my life and I honestly had no idea it was vegan till like my third time buying it lol, idk how their other vegan flavours are but that one blew my mind
I’m not vegan but Planet Oat and Ben and Jerry’s non dairy are my two absolute favorite brands. Planet oat, I’ve yet to have a bad one. It’s not Ben and Jerry’s level, I can tell it’s made with oat milk but it almost makes it creamier without being too overpoweringly “oat tasting”

If youre ever in Toronto try Honey's vegan ice-cream (totally vegan brand despite their name). They are a local business and they make my favourite vegan ice-cream ever. My personal recommendation is their earl grey flavour but many are amazing, creamy, decidant and not too sweet
So Delicious Salted Caramel Cluster ... is my addiction ... I can't control myself, I keep buying it.

We have a brand here called So Good, its literally 99% water and sugar with the rest of the ingredients being a little bit of soy protein and flavouring lol. Both the vanilla and chocolate flavours taste like straight up ice lol

Oatly for pretty much all their products, it tends to not really be particularly similar to the dairy equivalent of the product, but basically always it’s its own really delicious thing.
It can be used similarly to the dairy one, but the taste is very different but also very yummy.
