  • What genre would you categorise this as? I wrote this after getting home from seeing Thornhill last year. They're such an inspiring band, especially live. I love the rocky feel they have on their newer stuff despite playing in such low tunings, it's such a unique feel.
Guitar: Ibanez RGIXL7 into Neural DSP's Archetype: Gojira X

The sweetest part of this (which would be the chorus/opening/outro) is definitely within the realm of Nu-Metal.
There’s a slight metalcorish taint, but it’s not prevailing.
The verse is again Nu-Metal (its rhythmic nature makes it that way, it’s also very close to groove metal, thanks to the bends and spatiality) but because of the 0-0-0-0 people would classify it as Djent, but both groove/djent are direct cousins of Heavy Metal.
"Limp Bizkit" / "Ocean Grove" / "P.O.D." / "Skindred" have the same energy in their songs (usually for chorus), but often their riffs are more "busy".
To sum it all up, I'd go with Nu-Metal/Heavy.
That aside the track is a bomb my dude.

Interesting thoughts! While I don't personally think it fits the nu-metal thing I can absolutely see how others would. And I definitely listened to a lot of POD growing up so it makes sense that their influence would sneak in somewhere, haha. Regardless, it's cool hearing everyone's different thoughts on the same song!

Metalcore or Nu-Metalcore. These genre's are pretty contrived though.
Bring me the Horizon Suicide Season and the following album has this style. They were the first to use it IIRC. They influenced pop punk and "emo" bands of the time like A Day to Remember and Of Mice and Men.
The sound is characterized by drop tuning with a lot of octaves on the top string. That 12th fret at like 0:55 seconds is the most recognizable riff of this style. It's cool but I think it's novel and got overplayed in the early 2010's. Not saying it's an invalid style but it's kind of lazy in comparison to other music... rhetoric? I guess
