I remember seeing Rauno Heinla say that you should only wrap 1 time, not twice. Makes sense for deadlift ladders and I find that my grip actually slips less with just 1 wrap around than two. But doing it the way you showed in the video is definitely the strongest if you have time.
After trying this until I eventually got it, it’s actually insane. Feels like you’re not even gripping the bar. Unfortunately it puts a lot of pressure on your wrists if it’s too tight but it’s a night and day difference vs the regular way.
Best advice is practice and keep it slack as possible while wrapping so you can still move you hand, then when it's crossed over crank it like a motorcycle handle to get it secure
I never put my wraps free end between the thumb and index side, when the end comes from behind my thumbs first knuckle and runs on the same direction as my middle finger the strap doesnt kink. I basically put them on the way Mitch puts them on but dont cross sides like he did, I didnt think of doing that :) And I've been up to 220kg on rack pull, never close to slipping with cheap leather straps.
Hmm that's interesting. I like that. I'll have to watch this again when i put them on again. Just bought my first pair. My muscle in my forearm is fucked up near my elbow, so i wanted to negate grip as much as possible.. haven't been doing them quite right i see lol😅
I think this way only really makes sense for strongman weight. I can only deadlift up to 405, the regular way is not gonna slip at that weight so long as you twist the bar to tighten the straps. I imagine it's the same for another few hundred pounds.
That's how I've always wrapped and wondered why so few people do it. Now do one on what spotter bars are for. See too many people nearly killing themselves because they're more concerned with getting their squat on tiktok than self preservation.
Yes, that tip works. The reason you aren't supposed to do it is the whole reason it works so well - it's harder to release the weight. Yeah, it mostly comes straight away once you release your grip but it can hold long enough to pull you off balance.
Tried this on deadlifts tonight and could not for the life of me get the wrap right. Got it right on dumbbell rows though. Think I'm gonna get figure 8 straps for deadlift.
Before people use straps they better learn how to use machines and weights... 99 percent of the people in the gym have litterly no idea what they are doing!
quite possibly the worst how-to on RUclips, no explantion of how to setup the straps. Title should be "Different lifting strap technique for people who already know how to use straps, with little explanation"
The technique I use is to hold the straps in my hands, open the rubbish bin, drop the straps in and then lift the bar with bare hands because I have iron hookgrip... GRAAHHRRRR 💪🏻😎😁
You should reformat this video into a youtube short, they’re the best way to grow your channel in this day and age

@@russellinator i hate them too but it’s better for channel growth
Ughhh f the shorts, I want to replay parts.

This is one I’ve always wondered about
Tried this and definitely hit my PR today thanks Mitch

I'm training back tonight, I'll give it a shot. Thanks for the tip. *Edit* Actually made a bit of a difference. Thanks again for the Tip Mitch.
Mitch one of the best that came in to the worlds of strength and knowledge change my mind
Damn.. I didn’t even know you could use the straps that way.. 🤙 awesome work at Arnold’s 🏆
Thank you good sir I sat down in the gym practicing and watching. I think I got it, Finally.
No problem dude!
WHAT. THE. PHAACK. Why is this the first time I'm hearing of this? Seems the most secure.
Genuinely a night and day difference. Thank you so much!
Great tip. Thank you!
Ok how do you do this with one hand already strap in
Lol you gotta master it. Though this comment was a year ago hope you made out alright
Exactly
@@Crewtisi broke my wrist with this method. Don’t recommend listening to this guy.

Yes, how did the break happen?
This was so great tip. My straps have been slipping constantly. Not anymore!
Thank you champ

Okay, I see how this can help. However, how do I wrap my second hand like this, without assist of other one?
cool idea!

How do you do this with one hand when your first hand is already tied?
Awesome tip, Mitch! I will definitely try it
Great tip.
Great info thanks Moose
Good advice, thanks 👍
Can you do it one handed so both hands are wrap?
Thanks man

So I’ve been doing it right then but the thing is that the other hand takes a bit of work to get the wrapping with only one hand
how am i supoosed to do that with 1 hand
How do you do the other hand?

Thanks bro
Ok, and how you do that with your second hand once the first one is already strapped and can't help...? 🤔
Practice
I’ve never used straps, but the crossover way is the way that makes most sense if you want the most secure. 👍🏽
This is AMAZING
Doubled my farmer carry record
How do you put the second one on?
Practice
Doing the first hand is easy. Maybe I'm stupid, but I can never get the second one wrapped properly. The other hand is too far away to help.
I like figure eights now but i guess in comps that dont allow them.
I’ve been using 24” pieces of old ratchet straps. Works just fine
Congrats on winning
Thank you…
And, then, ------- how do you wrap the other hand?

💪💪💪💪💪
So you put them in the opposite way and to the heel of the hand, but you didnt show how you put the other hand for dead lift
❤

Never wrap twice in olympic weightlifting 😅
I thought I heard him say 500 kilos. LOL
Thanks sweet pea
Any videos of you hauling 500kg ?
I mean tbf I don’t think I’ll be lifting 500 kilos anytime soon 😂
thanks man but im never, in my disgusting life, lifting 500kg so ye
Just get figure 8s
...😀
Thanks. I'm going to try 500 kilos now. Jk
