Just saw Elkie play the Concorde club in Southampton this week. She's 78 and still sounding as good now as she ever did. And still playing plenty of blues as well as the hits. Unbelievably talented lady.
I’m 67 now, saw vinegar joe in 1973 In a small club in Chester u.k. called quanteways. Small club, low ceiling, no stage, old venue. Just like watching a band in your living room! I still live half an hour from Liverpool and Manchester. Since 1973 I’ve seen them all, but vinegar joe are in the top few! Bands at quanteways on Monday night rock nights back in the day, usually had one album recorded. So were quite unheard of, we used to pile in my mates dads van whoever was on we would go! Bands I’ve seen there, vinegar joe, Slade, Judas Priest, , Budgie, Uriah Heep, Thin Lizzy, Atomic Rooster. Roxy Music. And Watneys Red Barrel, at 11 new pence a pint! I was on seven quid a week! As an apprentice bricklayer!🎸
27th of August 2024 today and just reporting that she was fantastic at Shrewsbury Folk Festival yesterday, rounded a great weekend off and snatched victory back from the Yanks at the last minute!
Bands like vinegar Joe are what rock is all about, kick ass live shows. They were touring all the time. Saw them 5 times. Always hoped they'd re-unite but sadly Palmer died.
Elkie’s voice sounds authentic and full- even at it’s very limit. The band are good and raucous. Shame she’s more known for her pop hits. I would love to have seen this bunch back in the day
Saw them at the Falcon Welling ,which is now a Beefeater 1970ish Her and Robert Palmer gave a storming performance to about 50 people true pros Elkie mooned the audience with a pair of knickers with KNICKERS emblazoned on them a good night
It warms my heart, to know that Elke is still alive and still doing her thing. Have been a great fan ever since I heard the french fries album on KBEY radio about 1972. I'm from Kansas City. Can anyone else suggest any of their subsequent albums that are as good as the very first? I'd love to buy some more.
Authentic and then some 🌟 . Kicking.....👍 . Thank you to Miss Bookbinder and ALL concerned, never forgetting the Man from Pudsey 😳 . Looks like everyone was having a time 🌞 A joy to see this film ❤️
Who is this chick? She looks like some girl from The Flintstones...and the music is on about that same level of caveman primitive too! HAHA! Pretty good....
@@stevenpurves3266 thanks mister. Maybe humour isn't your biggest talent. If you did not tell me that there is a band playing I would never find out. Thank you. But what I wanted to tell is that the guitar solo played by the lead guitarist who is playing in a band is 5 grades below the performing of the rest of the band. It is poor - technically and musically. Wrong bendings, wrong notes and sloppy played. That's it
Joe 22589, I have to weigh in here with everyone else. What right do you have to put down the guitarist? I suppose you could play a better guitar with the same bunch of people? You're an asshole
The greatest UK female singer across all genres ever... no one comes close.

Shit hot live. Lead guitarist was her husband, Pete Gage. Used to be in ram jam band with northern soul legend Geno Washington.
Hot damn shes hot reminds me of Janet Joplin.
My only claim to fame with Elkie was that I once found her pissing beside me in the men's urinals in Manchester. Yet another good performance.
Stand up comedy?
At only 23 here this was long before Robert Palmer became addicted to love.
Just seen Elkie tonight at the Gala Theatre Durham. Absolutely amazing at 75years young. As good as then if not better!
what a pity i missed that concert in my hometown, saw her many years later in Manchester not my hometown.
Love to see the girls standing up and rocking in this vid.
Can't believe this is elkie she became so sophisticated
Elkie, the original rock chic, rockin' her thang !

Saw Elkie in Brighton about two months , she was amazing . She blew the roof off.
Only 1000 or so views. Robert Palmer on rhythm guitar. Elkie Brooks on vocals. This is insane good.
Steve York , Pete Gauge as well!
My girl hero...Rock it Elkie..🎵🎶🎵
Fabuloso.
Just brilliant voice and performer - so good!
Elkie Brookes voice makes me think of Steve Marriot and Paul Rodgers all together !
Totally agree.
Used to book them in the early 70s in The Steering Wheel Dorchester those were the days.
Amazing Singer - still this good today
Happy nights in the Greyhound, Fulham Palace Road, trying to look up Elkie's skirt. (not hard, usually!)
She is still going strong apparently and performed this very week at the Lowry in Salford March 2019
Sounding better than ever.

Loved the band and Elkie. Saw them live three times in 1972
And we lived close in sw7
Seen the band in Ruisrock festival Turku Finland year 1973.

Gold doesn't rust away.
Now addle that's how it's done saw her at Cheltenham jazz fest last week she sounds even better now

Awesome loved this band!
Go for it girl remember it well ,happy birthday.xxx westy.
Honest genuine rock
Love it
Rock at its best she's up there with the best Janis Joplin Stevie Nicks .....
Nice comment. Her voice is solid - but far, far away from the best. And S. Nicks? Oh boy ...
Great singer she epitomizes Rock Chic
Whatever Stevie may be, she's no rocker!
@@joe22589 you are expert...she could swamp youre pampered girls...she IS one of the best

She could sing the blues.

Robert palmer was jealous of elkie brooks which caused the band to split up revealed in a bbc 4 documentary about women in rock.
And quite possibly false. Robert had his own musical objectives in mind.
@Alan Fox. When was the BBC documentary done? Do you know if it is posted on RUclips? Thanks!
I love Elkie, but if only she didn't look like Meena out of Emmerdale !!!!
Sadly Elkie left all this behind and started turning out commercial schmaltz.
So did Palmer. But Elkie can still blow the roof off .
Only saw the band once - but they were a knockout! Elton John was on the bill the same day - worst performance I have ever seen!!

LOL say someone called Lord Stompy and who looks like a drag Queen
@@Jake-oc5xz Well I hope she's as much of a fan of my style as I am of hers....
The guitarist does not belong to the top 100.000 ...
neither does your comment, he wasn't trying to be, he was playing in a band...your comment has made my top 5 shittest comments, well done

He was a great guitarist had you seen the band live in 1972 or bought their IST lp
