In one funny exchange with a woman, she tried to ask U.G. about something that he wrote in his book and he immediately stated that that book is full of nonsense. He immediately brushed it off and the thing is that no one else would have ever done that except U.G. The dude drops enlightenment bombs that explode all presupposition and crush the nonsense that people attempt to present him with.
One of the most soft-hearted discussions.

I think we are all searching for pleasure. Call it whatever you want. At base it is the seeking of pleasure and the avoidance of pain. Life over death. To find food and not become food. Nature has its own "goals" in mind and we blindly follow our urges not aware why. We want to mate with the most beautiful partner, but really this is just the biological urge to reproduce. We don't know why this urge is present. We want the best food. We make food into an art, but really it is just survival. Now that we are the dominant species we turn it into something else. Art, experience, pleasure, blah blah blah.
The individual does not survive. Even the species does not survive. Does Life ultimately survive? Science indicates it does not. Will the universe itself survive? If not what will it be subsumed into? That is the mystery. We call it God but we really have no idea. Everything else is just opinion and hopes and dreams.
in the past you had both pleasures and pains and now you would like to have one without the other 😄

Just finished Altered Carbon... lol this is fitting
UG didn't accept that there was any consciousness to transfer from body to body, so not really.
what is paradoxical is that he got it right but his approach can make him authentic & aware without losing his sanity, but not for day workers like me. I have a feeling he has got all his basic survival covered by his ancestral bank. if we an average man translate into this natural state, we would either end up in mental hospitals, roads, crime, or suicide.
the world today exists as a social contract, and sadly this is the new natural state. I wish I was born in his family, but I am not.
He was rich, definitely, and never worked. Had he been a mechanic, would he have fallen into the natural state? He said none of these things matter because he fell "in spite of everything". That might be fact or maybe some kind of mysterious language coming from his state.
The natural state is probably a burden most of us are not ready to carry. It is there all the time, ready to emerge, but constantly stopped by ourselves, for "security" reasons.
U.G was living penniless on the streets of London for a few years after his marriage ended. He would not be interested by the items in your life you attribute value to.
