Surviving A Midwest Heat Wave! (Versailles State Park, IN)

- In this episode of Wandering Wagners we test our survival skills with a Midwest heat wave at Versailles State Park, Indiana.
Temps were well into the 90's without humidity factored in and in June, that is pretty rare in the Midwest. The heat wave lasted for a few weeks too but we decided to camp in it anyway. We tested running our AC while we did a parking lot lunch stop for @hooters . The AC ran perfectly just as we expected with our @VictronEnergyBV Multi Plus II inverter paired with our two @Redodopower 410 Ah batteries. Hooters on the other hand.. Lynn loves their fish tacos but this was the WORST fish tacos I've ever had, anywhere.
We arrived at Versailles State Park only to see our site was VERY sloped to the point where we were almost 20" off level to the rear so we had to scramble to see if we could switch sites. Luckily the heat wave helped us on this front because there were several cancellations that day which opened up a few sites and after multiple phone calls with the campground attendant we were able to secure a different site that was a lot more level.
We did some great grilling, hiking, rode our @LectriceBikes which were so much fun and a great way to beat the heat. The pool here at this state park was awesome as well. The pool did cost $3 per day for entry, public was allowed and they had 15 minute breaks every hour, which were pretty pointless. Letting the public in kept the pool rather busy but we had a fun time either way!
We would love to come back to this park in the winter to do more hiking trails for sure, especially since it was too hot for the dogs to hike.

if you're in France it is pronunced Ver-sigh. In Indiana it's Ver-sales. Just like Cairo Illinois is pronounced Karo. I don't know why it's just the way it is. Keep the good stuff coming guys.
That's why I wasn't sure how to say it because different states have the same city name but they all say them differently haha
There’s also Versailles, KY. Also pronounced Ver-sales.

We have a phrase: "Don't fight the site". Seasoned RV'ers like you guys know that if you can't fit or can't get it level, there's no shame in requesting another site if one is available (we've done it a number of times). Also, the fact that your Victron inverter can augment your 30 Amp shore power is crazy awesome!
Pictures online never do them justice and show what it actually looks like haha oh well we lucked out and got a different site at least!

Wondering Wagner’s… if you liked Versailles, Clifty Falls is very close to that but further South. They also have a swimming pool… and EXTREMELY BEAUTIFUL hiking trails!
Shakamak S.P. Is also a NICE place to camp! They have nice bodies of water as well that you can enjoy kayaking on. They have a nice swimming pool too. Spring Mill S.P. Is one of our favorites, because of their beautiful hiking trails and CAVES that you can go through (on their property), they also have a nice swimming pool.

I’m an Indiana girl… born & raised.
We've been to clifty falls before and many other Indiana state parks! We are Ohioans but really enjoy Indiana state parks. Our favorite state park is Turkey Run🙌🏻

We've gpne from bikes to mobility e-scooters.
Where for July 4th? Most RV places are booked and over crowded for this weekend. A lot of parks have live (hillbilly) bands. Perhaps boondock at a river or lakeside. We enjoyed fishing on the Huron river.
Not sure what we are doing for the 4th yet. Mike might have to work this year
We visited the park back in May but didnt camp. Good video!

Funny thing is site 94 description says tent only with a steeply sloping pad 😂 but we have been to Versailles a few times and will never camp in a section A again because the roads through were tight
There were RVs in all the edge sites and we didn't notice it saying tent. The back loop is tight but luckily we didn't have to take the RV that way! We almost moved to another other section but luckily 31 became available

One of the biggest problems here is the officer not taking control of the situation early and putting an end to it. You ask once, after that in handcuffs, end of story. It's like a mom telling a misbehaved kid to stop it 20 times. No, I ask once, then it over. SO the girl sees early on she can keep testing this cop because she won't do anything. I can't stand cops that ask people to do something over and over and over. You ask once, the second time it's hands on.

our dog loves a good brushing, and belly rub..he sheds so bad in summer so dad will use the vacuum on him as well...yea we having the bad heat as always here in Mississippi.

We also have a couple Lectric Bikes. 3.0 XP's his and hers. Do you haul yours on a hitch mount or inside out of the weather? I'm considering the hitch mount they offer which could work on your Jeep. Thanks for the trip. Looks like a nice park.
We haul and store our lectric bikes in the back of the Jeep
I’ve found that at Indiana State Parks the interior on average is more level than the outer rings and also tend to be clear which is great for Solar and Starlink.
That's true for this park! We reserved like a day before we arrived so we got what we could. Luckily, people cancelled due to the heat this time

Two things. Lynn always looks better in a Bikini than a Parka. I have an Lectric Trike that I was involved in a crash with, (I turned too sharp) I ended up waking up in the back of an ambulance with a concussion, two broken ribs and a road rash from hell. Got on it the next day and rode it home.
Chef Gordon Ramsey had a bad accident, and now advocates for wearing bike helmets, said his helmet saved his life.

We enjoyed the campground and would return in the off season to do more trails for sure. Enjoyed the pool but wish it was just open to the campground and not the public too

We have leveling blocks but not 20" worth. Plus the rear end isn't supposed to be off the ground since that's where our parking brake is

I live here in Versailles Indiana and am right up Hwy 50 or also right up the hill if you cross the covered bridge in the park. The correct pronunciation of the town of Versailles (Ver-sales)

We frequent Hooters and love their wings but good to change it up. Their fish tacos are usually top notch but not at this location
