James Taylor's voice is so smooth you can slip and fall just listening to him.
This is my favorite James Taylor song , of course I'm
A Carolina girl myself 😊👍
Smooth as a gravy sandwich
@@karenpowell6063 , Wake County, NC girl born and raised.
No matter how far from home I roam, I always have Carolina on my Mind❤❤❤❤❤❤
And a distant cousin on my mother's side
Brilliant singer/songwriter.
Effortless
This was written in Peter Asher's flat in London in 1968. James was over working at Apple studios with Asher producing. James was homesick for home and family, thus this song. Paul McCartney is credited for the beautiful
bass guitar and uncredited, George Harrison sang background vocals.
This has been a staple song for Jame's
concert for years. A beautiful song by James. Great reaction Harri. Thanks Harri and Daniel. Wonderful song. Cheers from Canada 🇨🇦
Thanks Mary. I have heard this song hundreds of times and still can't keep my eyes dry. 🇨🇦🇺🇸🤴🇬🇧🙃👍
@@danielvolk237 Hi Daniel. I totally get it. We were so lucky to grow up with such beautiful songs. Some old memory creeps in and we're crying again. 😢
A great memory with James. Thanks Daniel. 😊👍✌️🎶🇺🇲🇨🇦❤️
Well said. Thank you. JT will always be special.
I'm glad to share this great music with you.
James Taylor was in London in 1968 recording his album at the Beatles studio when he became homesick. The result of his homesickness became this beautiful song for the ages.
Must hear "Her Town" sung with JD Souther duet. Fabulous.
I requested that before but Harri did some other version that was no where near as nice as the version you mentioned. I love that song. 🙃👍
James Taylor has the ability to draw me right into the picture he paints with his beautiful voice and unique guitar style. Thanks to Daniel Volk for requesting this gem and to Harri for doing justice to the song and the artist with his insightful comments. Great stuff 🌺✌️
Thanks for your kind comment Debbie. I feel the same way. 👍🙃
James Taylor does seem like a wonderful old friend, and his music is a blessing as well as a comfort. I was lucky enough to see him the late 90's in a outdoor concert. All his songs are like friends. He closed the show with "Sweet Baby James." Most of us in the audience were on our feet swaying in rhythm and singing along. It was a beautiful moment.
Hi
By
I've been blessed to see him 3 times and never disappointed!❤
Love ya Harri!!!! So says Austin Tx!!!! 😎🍸
Any song on his sweet baby James album won’t disappoint
SWEET BABY JAMES !!!... the name says it all !!!! Thanks HARRI
Amazing singer/songwriter, love the song "Sweet Baby James".
This song always makes me want to cry. 'Hey baby, sky's on fire and I'm dying, ain't I?'
You can't go wrong with Sweet Baby James...
An American treasure, or should I say a world treasure. His influence in popular music is undeniable, and his talent is remarkable. He also has nice acoustic guitars.
Effortless!
Great singer.
Being a Carolina boy myself, I've always had an affinity for this song.
He's still got it. Ageless voice. Nice pick, Mr. Volk!
Thanks for the kind comment. You know how much I enjoy your picks and always have. 👍😉
@@danielvolk237 Right on!
It made me tear up in my eye and weep just a little bit, too, my friend. It did sound as if he were dying, and in his mind he was going home. Good old James Taylor, making us have a lump in our throats with his deep lyrics and beautiful voice.
No it doesn't choke me up at all it brings me great joy. I've been learning how to play it.
To paraphrase Jim Croce " There's something in my eye you know it happens every time I hear this song". 😢
I love James Taylor, he has written so many great songs and has a unique voice.
Heck Yeah - South Carolina
LOVE this one. He is a true minstrel.
Great tune by one of the very best singer songwriters of all time. Another tune you should try is Carolina Day done by his brother Livingston Taylor which was recorded in 1970-
Harri, you are listening to a song that James has been singing for about 40 years. It's a beautiful song from the get-go, but his feelings about where he spent time in his younger years and his way of singing it have evolved. It's become even more meaningful over the years.
Thanks for keeping great music alive!
I spent much time in the Carolinas as a child, and every time I hear this song I get choked up, too. The lyrics seem to say he wants to go home but can't so he can only go there in his mind.
Love James Taylor, thank you! ❤
There is a beautiful version sung by Alison Krauss. So many people say that Alison sounds like what angels in heaven must sound like.
Harri, love this review, James Taylor is simply one of the last musical real legends left, what a storytelling musician, check out my favourite SWEET BABY JAMES.
Love James Taylor. Please do "Shower the People" and "Sweet Baby James."
This song touches most people who hear it I'm sure but if you are from North Carolina like I am it really gives you chills. The descriptions presented in the words are such a fitting tribute to the Old North State.
Exactly! Another Carolinian here!
@@gailmartin6137 , same here. NC born and raised.
no doubt, love this song.
@@patriciakeith6755 makes me feel like a carolinan, in my mind.
What’s really remarkable is that when he sang it originally -over 50 years ago - it sounds the same.
I have heard this beautiful song at least one thousand times. But as you say, His emotion in the lyrics as you hear them later in my life and James life, expand its meaning? As a new point of view perhaps? But all good!
One of the best folk guitar players/singers of all time. I prefer reviews of the studio version. I find it better to hear it first to get the details and true intent, then the live version after. Cool, another person doing sincere reviews that appreciates the music and doesn't look fake. Reviewing the music, not the video.
Hi Harri, yeah, "me allergies" get to me too whenever I hear James sing beautiful songs like this. Surprisingly, James is an excellent choice WHEN you are depressed, as an analgesic, or a tonic. At least, that's how it's been with me. When I was in that state, through various times in my life, I'd "throw me on some JT" and soon enough, I'd be happier. I think it must be because he makes you "FEEL" he understands what you're going through, even when no one else seems to, and that makes you feel "not so alone" anymore.
JT has written SO many great songs. 😊
James Taylor music got me through high school.
your insights and comments are spot on.
As a native Carolinian I understand. I lived in California for a time and was sick of seeing palm trees and I longed for the pines of Carolina. Oh yes,I understand.
James was homesick while abroad when he wrote this masterpiece. Research this song - it is a GREAT story in music history!! You will be surprised what you learn.:
Test question: WHO are "the Holy Host of others standin' 'round me"???? 🙂
This is SUCH a great song!!!!
Great song! Love James Taylor. What a great singer songwriter. His style is more folk rock. I grew up with his music. He is one of the best-selling music artists of all time, having sold more than 100 million records worldwide. "You've Got A Friend" was a big hit for him in 1971 & was written by Carole King. Some other hits were "How Sweet It Is (To Be Loved by You)", "Handy Man", "Sweet Baby James", "Your Smiling Face" etc.
Yes! Love him too! His songs were my faithful companion throughout my youth.
@@kmach1000ditto and I'm an Aussie 😉🇦🇺
I had the great fortune to see JT live in Boston around 1969 or 70. The show was opened by Carole King! What a great time it was to be young! ✌️
@@suemontague3151 And I'm from Brazil 😀😆
@@kmach1000 well hi 👋 from 🇦🇺 🙂
Iconic doesn't even begin to describe this man! If words could paint pictures, James Taylor would be Rembrant and Picasso all wrapped up in one man! And lest we not forget another beautiful soul who acquired her angel wings today! RIP! We gonna miss ya!
The amazing Christine McVie!
RIP Christine.
I would add Auguste Rodin to that mixture. James Taylor paints beautiful images with his voice. But first he sculpts the phrases to express his vision with lyrics that are so pure that they resonate in his listeners minds and hearts.
My all time favorite artist 😊
You can see by the standing ovation how JT is Respected ,such a Talented musician and all around great guy. Thanks again Harri for another great reaction.✌️🎵
I just hope that when I come back in my next life ( if that happens) that I can be born with that ability to touch people's souls with the way I sing and create music.
I was lucky enough to see him live once and his son was also the opening act who looked like a spitting image of James when he was younger. Unfortunately for me once the encore was over and the lights came on I dug out to beat the LA traffic and learned the next day that he came out for a second encore to do my favorite song Sweet Baby James....oh man that hurt for awhile.
You can close your eyes, is absolutely 💯 beautiful song 🎵 by James Taylor and his son Henry
Thanks Harri for taking me back to when I was young
Absolutely Beautiful...! Chokes me up as well...
Everyone should now listen to another RUclips version of the song: James singing it with the late great David Lindley on the subtlest banjo you can imagine during the one tour they did with Lindley in Taylor’s band. Heart melting…
The harmonies on the studio cut are phenomenal
So beautiful!
As usual Harri, you and I are on the same page. You can't loose with sweet baby James. One of my all time favorites. Love and best wishes always
JT is from North Carolina, where I live, was born, and raised. This is a very special song here. Thanks for your reaction to it.
remember hearing this song allot growing up on long road trips with my family. in the late 90's brings back a lot of nostalgia.
James Taylor, first guy the Beatle signed to Apple records. Paul McCartney plays bass on “Carolina on my mind”. “How Sweet it Is”. “You’ve got a friend”. “Fire and Rain”. “Sweet Baby James“. “Mexico”. “Shower The People”
This was first recorded on the Beatles' Apple label in 1968, with strings and such. Paul McCartney played bass, and George Harrison sang on one of the backing vocals. Then Taylor recorded it in 1976 and made a hit single out of it.
Here is a fun fact about the original studio recording and the later greatest hits version. /// This album is Taylor’s only album to date to be released on the Apple Label, and one of two studio albums to be recorded internationally, in this case, London, along with part of 1985’s “that’s why I’m here”, which was partially recorded in Montserrat. This album was also the first album released by a non British artist on said Apple Label.
The tracks “Something In The Way She Moves” and “Carolina In My Mind” were re-recorded in 1976 for Taylor’s first “Greatest Hits” album due to rights issues with Apple at the time.
“Carolina In My Mind” features Paul McCartney on bass and an uncredited George Harrison on backing vocals
His voice calms me
James Taylor's voice and you immediately feel calm and relaxed.
Great song 🎶✌️🎵
James is one of those musicians that sounds great live, this tune he is doing a bit slower than the album, but his voice is so clear and so sweet it works. Thanks Harri
I was blessed to see him in concert once; it was a package tour so he only sang a few songs, but this was one. Happy memory.
Those first two albums of his were so popular.
when he sings about a "Holey Host of Others surround him, he refers to beatles signing him in UK
He was discovered by the Beatles and was in London when he wrote that song. He is from North Carolina and was homesick.
I love hearing this song again through your ears. James Taylor is a deeply soulful songwriter and singer. Doesn't matter what style, he sings with such heart, you know it's his truth.
one of the best to ever do it.
Harri, this is one of my favorite JT songs
South Carolina here!
How coincidental!. Just yesterday I saw a photo of Livingston Taylor, James’s younger brother (by less than 2 years). He still performs. They are part of a musical family with other musical siblings. It brought to mind his wonderful song, “Carolina Day.” And then immediately, next in my mind was this song by James. My friend and I discussed the brothers, the other siblings, these songs, those days.
Please give a listen to Livingston’s song, “Carolina Day,” whether as reaction. or for your own enjoyment. He sings about his family here, and her wrote it when he was just 16. Which brings to mind “These Days” by Jackson Browne, a song he wrote when He was just 16. An exceptional song for sure.
Another beautiful song by Livingston, on that same first album with his first name as the name, is “Lost in the Love of You” It’s remarkable how much the brothers sound alike.
Here’s a link to Carolina Day by Livingston.

Some of my favorite JT songs.
Copperline
The Frozen Man
Sun on the Moon
My fave by him is Shine A Little Light live with the Low Country Singers performed shortly after the church murders in Charleston , SC. He wrote it for MLK.
So gifted...
This song gives me that Green, Green Grass of Home vibe, too. A feeling of going back home, and the nostalgia of that familiarity and warm feeling we all wish for.
We lost the great Christine McVie today. Fleetwoood Mac will never be the same. Please review "Sweet Little Lies". I love the way she sings it.
Sad day in music, she was a great entertainer and will be sorely missed by music fans everywhere.
Thanks, Harry!! Carolina In My Mind IS my favorite James Taylor song. The perfection of his finger-picking style (eventually, as he progressively perfected it over the years) is just... AWESOME!!!
Such a beautiful voice. . . saw him live at MSG some years ago - amazing in person. Loved the reaction!
Hey Harri, I listened to Chris's version. I love his voice. Thanks for pointing me in his direction.
I just love James Taylor, Daniel and this is one of my most favourite songs by him. ☮️🇺🇸
Thanks Cyn. Always love your kind comments. I love this song and have for many, many years. Why do I have tears in my eyes? 👍🙃🇨🇦🇺🇸🤴🇬🇧
@@danielvolk237 yes, James can have that effect on people. It’s a happy sad mind you.😢
Never got that impression from the song as he was younger when it was 1st recorded. Just homesickness vibe to me but glad u liked it.
James Taylor's voice is like valium for the ears and soul.
And THIS is why auto-tuners weren't invented by this generation.
What a beautiful song. I still have this album among others by James. 💞
Perhaps my favorite James Taylor song ever! It melts me everytime. Harri, you're ever so close to 100K! I'm so excited for you, anyway now! We'll deserved.
Saw him in concert 20 or so years ago. He started the show really late due to traffic so to make up for that lateness he played an unplanned solo set for like 30 minutes after he played his full set with the Boston Symphony.
saw him in 1981 front row at Villanova field house and it was just him with his guitar and a tape machine for back vocals and it was very cool and great live voice which is unheard of today.
My name is Karen and I’m Tarheel Born so this is one of my favorite songs, because of the references to things personal to me as well as the beauty of the song. If you’re ever fortunate enough to find yourself on the most beautiful campus of The University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill you will no doubt hear this played as it is practically an anthem for that institution. This was a nice version but the instrumentation and his voice in the studio version is worthy of a listen.
Taylor moved with his family to Chapel Hill, N C when he was 3 years old and his father served as Dean of the University of North Carolina medical school from 1964-1971. James grew up in Carrboro and Carolina in My Mind is a tribute to his NC childhood.
It doesn't choke me up. I always thought maybe there was an old girlfriend in one of the Carolinas. He's daydreaming about a wonderful time there and so goes there in his mind.
Highly recommend the same song but preformed by the underrated band Marmalade, its a little bit different but one of my favourites from them!
I know he’s singing about a woman, but I live in th Carolina’s. It’s a beautiful place. You should come see us sometime.
One of my faves! Carol from NC
Saw him in concert in Santa Barbara in the '70's, and will never forget. Love this guy.
So beautiful,Daniel...JT at his best! Great selection and reaction, too!
Thanks Neal. Always nice to get a kind comment from you. 🙃👍
Dang, Harry! Just noticed your almost up to 100K Subs already! Way to go!
James Taylor is from North Carolina and a lot of the imagery in the lyrics are related to his experiences there.
This song always has a special place in my heart because a person was performing this song at the restaraunt just befor I proposed to my wife 25 years ago. I just love this song.
Wonderful reaction as usual Harri👍😊
You've reacted to James Taylor's Carolina in my mind I think you should react to Michael Martin Murphy's Carolina in the pines too😊👍
Make sure you listen the the first time he played this song, much younger
