Thanks for sharing. Good info and yes - the shock is more featured and definitely improves ride quality. FYI - Suzuki part #62684-40A10 (bushing 10x17x30) can be used to replace the stock Yamaha bushing (12x17x30) without the use of the sleeves. Both methods work. 👍
Chances are you will have to if you are looking to doing any track riding. I find mine just fine for normal commuting and worlds better than the OEM setup.
I followed your advice previously and fitted the Yamaha shock to my old bike - RC 390 (2016). I now have a Duke 390 (2020) and it looks like the bottom fixing area on the swing arm is different and would interfere with the shock adjusting thumb wheel. Do you heard anything about this buddy? I ask because the Yammy shock transformed the bike so much that I had to do some work on the front to make it equal because it showed how bad the front end was then! thanks for any comments you may add, Steve
Zero issues, I looked for one that appeared to be in good condition. No leaks or seal issues. They can also be sent out to be serviced as well. At the end of the day, you could always replace it for another $50 on ebay. Unless the thing completely collapses (which I highly doubt) I see no would it could pose an issue other than the seal leaking..... which you could see.
YES. Esp if you pick up the shock for cheap off of Ebay. In total it cost me $50. Even if you don't get it rebuilt and swap in a new spring it is still way better than the stock shock.
Hey! I really hope you see this cause I couldn’t find the same spec on eBay after tons of searching. I’m hoping to get your email or another social media handle so we can discuss this. Or if you can leave a link to the same shock i would really appreciate it!!
I know this is 2 years old but, love the advice mate, you are heaven sent! Straight foward with alot of knowledge love it mate
as a doubt what is the overall length difference between R6 and OEM KTM rear shock, curious to know
I have an R6 shock on the way, can anyone tell me what bushing dimensions I need.

Will you still need the spacers if you put the 10x17x30 bushings in?
Hello
What’s your advice for 2nd gen dukes rear shock
What is the weight of the 02 R6 spring? I want to check if I also have to get a different spring. THANKS!

@@RhoadsChristopher did you have to rebuild your shock..it is 19 years old shock
@@MinhTruong101 nope, still running strong. Had low miles on it.
Can you install the oem spring onto the r6 shock?

Hey Steven, I have heard of this. Look into the R1 shock setup instead. They have a few forum post about it.
Can i swap the ktm buttom baering in to the yamaha shock how do you have to do this? Because stock ist 10mm and the yamaha is 12mm
Hey mate, there are two sleeves you have to install. Let me see if I can get you the part number for them.
McMaster-Carr bushings PN# 6679K15 - QTY: 2 ($12.10)
Where do the copper washers go?
They act as spacers and will go between the frame and shock to take up some of the gap
@@RhoadsChristopher At the top, or the bottom end?
@@WillfulThinker I want to say I had to do both.
I am thinking about doing this mod as well. However it's hard to trust a 20 year old shock. Have you found any issues with it so far?

@@RhoadsChristopher That’s great to hear! I appreciate the info, I’ll give this mod a try 🙏
Thanks for posting!
No problem
Is it much better tho worth it ?

Hey mate, did you end up having to do anything to the forks after fitting this?
Howdy, I dumped all the fluid, changed all the seals and used heavier oil. Made a good difference as well.
Wow..wondering if this can be fitted on to the 390 Adv since the shocks are height adjustable..your thoughts?
I'm not sure, but it would more than likely need the R1 shock. The newer duke does at least.
thank you..which model year of the R1 is needed for the latest duke 390?
I have a 2019 Duke 390 and just got the 02 r6 shock but the mid pipe of the exhaust is in the way with the nitrogen bottle 😂😂😂
