  • In this video I set up a DIY super simple guppy patio pond with a fish highrise. You can enjoy a pond AND an aquarium viewing area! What's better than that? :D The whole design is really easy to make, and can be done for cheap. It would be a great project for beginners or anyone on a budget too!

    You could mount an indoor water fountain setup to let the water rise and cascade down back into the bowl. Plus the trickling effect sounds really calming.
    I placed an old indoor water fountain display on top of my pond tub and let it cycle and air the water. Plus it has a nice light in it so at dark it looks really cool. Don't need to run it throughout just at sunset till around 9pm is just right.

    When I tried a high rise I used a more flexible hose like thicker air hose and a chunk of polystyrene and thread the hose though the middle of it. That floated and kept the hose right at the very top of the tank, I kept drawing out the air until the water got to within an inch of my mouth (could use a small pump for drawing the air too) no more air in the high rise. hope this explanation makes sense 😅

    You can do it without a filter. Just use 50mm sand, put a piece of driftwood with Taiwan moss on it, and duckweed or even better Salvinia minima. No filter needed. Just feed the tank with a pinch of fish food daily for a couple of weeks. The stock a few fish, then next week add more fish. You don't need a filter in 100lt with just Guppies. An air stone or small pump/fountain would help circulation.

    • @Kaityscichlids
      @Kaityscichlids  8 месяцев назад +2

      Yes very true! I didn't really want to put sand in it, and having the UVC in addition to the filter/pump is mainly why I decided on that one in particular (plus knowing I'd need to create surface agitation somehow anyway). But you could definitely do it without it

    Sucking the air out of the high rise aquarium would have worked. What was happening as you were sucking out the last of the air at the top, the bottom lip of the tank was breaking the water surface and letting the air in. You can see that in the video at 7:05 on your left side side. The reason your pump was spraying water everywhere when you first started was because it had a fine daisy nozzle fitted. In the kit there is a bell fountain nozzle (you had it in your hand at 8:53). Just replace the daisy nozzle with the bell fountain nozzle and it will give you a more compact mushroom shape spray. Enjoyed your video

    I had one of these in my goldfish pond for awhile, but I was never sure how well the water cycled through the high-rise, as I couldn't see how the water would draw down into the filter. Does look super cool though.

      Yes it would be cool to use some of that fish safe dye they put in tanks to see what the water flow is like. That might be interesting to test!

    That looks like a really fun project, Kaity! And I'm still astounded by the Echinodorus!!! The first time I saw one out and flowering like that was on Jason's part 2 video of the backyard tub pond he built last year. I've got some in some of my tanks and one shouts spikes out of the water with new little plantlets, but it hasn't flower. Something to really look forward to. I've been wanting to try a tub pond here but I think it'd cook the fish in the summer. They'd probably alright through the winter, but I'd either have to dismantle it in the summer or maybe bring it into the garage. It's a thought. Keep 'em coming and I'm looking forward to seeing updates on this one. Be well! ~Ron

      The sword plant in my tank grows shoots as Well as flowers from time to time.mostly it flowers during spring and summer.these flowers look more delicate (much like Apple Blossom). probably because my plant grows submurse, unlike plants you get in stores (grown emerse).i know it's a shame,but i think it would be better if kaity would cut off these shoots and flowers so the plant can put its energy in setting it's Roots first.soon enough it wil flower again.

      Thank you so much Ron!! Yes I loved that little patio pond Jason did. When I saw that I told him that he inspired me to get one on my patio 🤣 it's so relaxing, I absolutely love it. And yes the plant is beautiful! I couldn't pass it up when I saw it at Bunnings

      It so cool. I've never seen one in a nursery here, or maybe I just didn't recognize it out of water, @@Kaityscichlids 🙂

    I wonder how to high rise will do with weather? Will strongly winds tip it over?

    • @Kaityscichlids
      @Kaityscichlids  8 месяцев назад

      It's quite heavy because it's carrying the weight of all of the water volume in it so it's actually surprisingly sturdy

      Eh, no way! They are happy bachelors, they get to hang out together at the 'Lilly Club' whenever they want, they are always happy to see each other - even if they they've drunk too much and are late, they never feel that they have to question their relationships, they all have the same mood ALL month long, they never get dragged around the pads looking for the latest in new fins and scales, they don't have to be cleaning their 'pad' all the time, they don't feel that they have to get permission to to occasionally watch Katy sucking the air out of their high-rise, let them enjoy their freedom being single!
