Aston Martin Rapide - The most exquisite four door supercar you can buy - Beards n Cars

- The beautiful Rapide has consistently been my favourite Aston Martin model for years now, and I have of course previously reviewed the more powerful 'Rapide S' version in a previous episode of Beards 'n Cars. So now that I have finally gotten my hands on my absolute favourite version of it - the original 470 bhp 'base model' in its purest and most elegant form - does it live up to my hopes? And more importantly, is the faster 'S' version worth paying the extra premium for on used prices?
On top of that there is also the question of how this variant compares to its excellent rivals from Porsche and Maserati - the Panamera and Quattroporte...
So let's head out for a road test in this Rapide, which is also currently for sale, to give my thoughts on what is in my opinion the most beautiful modern four door car you can buy, and answer those very questions...
Let's review the Aston Martin Rapide!

Great review - A balanced thoughtful approach looking at the real-world use of the car. They are “to die for” beautiful and I agree that they are a pure thing - NA V12 with limited electronic interference. A GT drivers dream.
S 8spd is by far the better car vs the original Rapide. I drove both and bought a 2015 Rapide S 8spd. It’s literally mechanically better in every way, with interior getting a few nice improvements like glass buttons. This car is not about the interior, though, it’s about driving and the sound. Mine is Volcano Red.
Hardly surprising that a 5 year younger car after 2 updates is significantly better. It also costs a lot more. That's not surprising either 😂
Later Rapides tend to have their bugs ironed out. Fuel efficiency is certainly better but I found the gear box was a bit fussier.
@@andrewstevenson9747 I almost exclusively drive in manual mode. I find it’s the only way to get the most out of the exhaust. On the highway, it’s 5th gear tops. Overdrive is soul wrenching!
Great review, as always & my fingers are crossed you are right regarding the future value! I love my 2010 Rapide, which I purchased at the beginning of the year. I did buy the remote control exhaust mod (along with the Bovee Bluetooth Streaming), both of which are highly recommended.
HI, how is it holding on?
Great review, really enjoyed it 😊
I loved my Rapide. I had a 2013 model and it was great. I only sold it because I’m emigrating next month. Hopefully I’ll get a new one when I’m settled.
A friend's brother has that exact same car, colour and everything! Gorgeous and now just need a lottery win....
J' en veux une
Not to mention that A2DP Bluetooth streaming was not available until the 2015 model year (not even on the 2014 S)!
The Bovee Tune2Air Bluetooth Streaming works brilliantly in my 2010 Rapide.
@@alistairkeith Glad to hear it’s working well for you! I am generally weary of after market installs, they haven’t worked well for me in the past so I am reluctant to try them on the Aston. Luckily, the 2015 S is basically perfect as it is!
@@sidelnieI was very tempted by the ‘S’ but could not make the man maths stretch that far! 🫣
I have a 2013 S and it has Bluetooth streaming, works perfectly.
I think you are correct the Rapide is underpriced and will probably enjoy a resurgence in price at some point, but when. The Lagonda took decades before people started to appreciate it second time around. Finally, I am very surprised you have never reviewed a DB9 especially as you enjoy an XK.
Just a matter of getting around to a DB9, and obviously every car purchase should be made for what it offers now in terms of value, rather than an investment in my opinion. I certainly never buy them for that even on the number of occasions where mine have appreciated. But for those who do plan to keep them for longer it makes the time sweeter
If you prefer this over the "S", why did you buy one when you could've got a Rapide instead?
four door, mean for 4 passanger ?
In this case yeah, most 4 door cars are for 5 people typically, like the Quattroporte
Definitely snug.
