  • Watch this video before you buy a DBX ! I've already proven the DB9 is a usable Dadcar but is the Rapide S even better? can you fit rear facing baby seats? Is it too big and too heavy to enjoy driving? I get hands on and give my thoughts on these cars which now represent excellent value for money!

    Hi ! great video ! I am driving a Rapide from 2010 for one year now, and my 2 kids love it...also because of the tv's, but not only ! You definitively don't drive anonymously with such a car, especially in France where you almost never see any Aston Martin (Once a month is the maximum, compared to Porsches, that you cross everyday at least 5 to 10 times in my region !). For me this car was an unaffordable dream until 2 years ago, when I figured out that I could finally be able to afford it because the price dropped dramatically to a quater of its initial value ! I was first looking for a Maserati Ghibli, but the Aston is really something else ! It's the only car in which you can't stop smiling when driving it, even in traffic jams where you just appreciate the sound system (you did not report about it, but it is really good), the leather smell, even after 12 years !
    I have the earliest version with 477 BHP, which is not so much for a 6L V12, but really enough for a "Dadcar" or "Dr Jekyll" drive mode, and it is also enough to get pleased on small roads in "Mr Hide" mode😱. The kids love it for many reasons : the engine start up in the garage is absolutely amazing, they are never late for school in the morning when I tell them "today, we drive the Aston !" Even my 6 years old boy dresses differently when we take the Rapide for the weekend : he wants to wear a watch and sun glasses 😎which is just funny because he has never seen any James Bond Movie ! Well, I also think it is really much more practical than a DB9, especially because I am 1.87m tall, and still an adult can fit behind me (not for 500kms I would guess...).I would recommend it for those who have 2 kids and want a car that looks different from any other SUV or "refrigerator-shaped car" that you can see everyday on the road, I think it is really possible to get one now for almost the same price ! Of course, the running cost will be twice or 3 times more, but the pleasure 10x more for the whole family !

      Fantastic comment thank you VF! Yes I kicked myself for not filming the speakers in this car that rise up from the dash! I missed a fair bit to be fair but hope to feature another Rapide on the channel in the future. Tremendous cars, any Aston is a rare sight even in the UK compared to Porsches like you mention. Hope you follow the channel and stick around to see the other cars I feature. I did a video of the Ghibli a few weeks ago if you’re interested check it out 👏

    Great review! I picked up a 2015 Rapide S last summer and it’s an incredible supercar. My kids love it, although my son may outgrow the rear seat in a couple of years (he is 14 now 5” 10’). He still loves it though, cause he loves small enclosed spaces.
    My daughter is 8 and she LOVES the luxury of the rear seats, TVs, butt warmers, etc. also rear boot that is accessible to rear passengers.
    Still, I prefer to drive the car alone…lowering the windows…putting it (and keeping it) in Sport mode, shifting through the gears (at redline) to hear that glorious V12…taking fast corners in Track mode without getting anyone sick.
    So to carry the family, I prefer my wife’s cavernous minivan…the Aston simply offers ability to carry the kids or friends when needed.
    For me, the main thing about the car is the sound. I go out of the way to drive through tunnels, overpasses, and high walled highway entrances. It’s a completely different driving experience that is not matched by anything I have ever driven.
    I do have another 4-door car that I like almost as much as the Aston. It’s a Cadillac CTS Vsport 3.6L TT. It’s not as nice inside and it doesn’t sound nearly as glorious but it’s 400 pounds lighter and has steering and handling to die for. It’s also much easier to use when in a rush - which unfortunately I am in a lot of the time. You better have a lot of time to experience the Aston, I feel it’s made for people who are not only rich in money but also in time. The quirks feel special on Sunday morning drives but annoying and pointless when shuttling people and things from A to B in a rush. This car is best driven without any purpose, a hard concept for me to get used to.

    I have 5 children, who at this point i have all sent to car control clinics or Porsche Club of America Drivers Ed schools here in the States. Back in the 2000s my daily driver was a black 1989 944 2,7. (Including Blizzaks on the 15” winter wheels, and no I never posted photos when Porsche had their Porsche Every Day marketing campaign). I bought 3 of the Britax-made, Porsche brand booster and child seats which custom fit the 911, 944, and Boxsters. The Comfy/Zoom booster best fit in the front seat for the big kid (with special belt for the Boxster gen to deactivate the front airbag) and the custom fitting child seat that fit exactly in the rear scooped shape that is a rear Porsche seat to position the kiddos far back enough to allow them to still have legroom. That is the real trick: a car seat that allows legroom. With most booster and car seats when deploying this sports car as parentmobile, or DadB9 or 9forFour as we used to say, you need a safe seat that positions the child’s hip point far back enough in the seat!

    • @dadcars
      @dadcars  Год назад +1

      Awesome!! I LOVE the 944 I think they look better than ever in 2022! Hoping to get one on the channel soon! I’m on a bit of a journey with the childseats now, feel it’s my mission in time to become an expert and put out definitive content about all things childseats, obviously I’m only 2 months in! I’m hoping to be in talks with a car seat manufacturer soon 😉 hope you stick around and follow the channel, having people with expertise of real life DadCar living will really help me 👍

    One thing that’s key to mention that was brushed over here Ben was the rear screens for the rear passengers. You should have shown that with content playing on the little screens and that content comes from either the 6xDVD changer in the boot or via an RCA cable (the old red, white & yellow cable) in the rear seat compartment space. Also the headphones included are wireless. I think it’s actually one of the most key features the car has and was a key USP when new so may tempt a few more to look at this car if they have kids!
    Great exhaust sound as well from the car! 👍

    As a Petrolhead Dad (3 year old and 3 month old), I am envious! My goal is to have a Rapide in the next 10-15 years. Currently have a 2002 325ti (e46 compact) as a project car and it is a surprisingly good Dad Car! Small enough to be chuckable, big enough to fit car seats in the back, relatively practical with the hatch boot, 2.5l straight 6 makes decent power and it makes a glorious noise. The 3 year old loves it when I take him out in it!

    Just saw your DB9 on Jayemm. I'm not a dad, yet at least, but I am a petrol head. Love the DB9. My thing right now is Jaguar cars. I had an XF 3.0ltr petrol V6 premium luxury, had an issue with the 6 speed ZF box, had it rebuilt at £5000 and it's still giving problems. So what's the only sane thing to do when a big expensive complicated luxury car goes wrong? Why buy something even bigger more complicated and more luxurious of course. Because I had to abandon my XF on the street because of the ongoing gearbox issues I rage bought an XJ. I've always been into big powerful saloons.
    Now that is a dad car. It's the 2013 model with the 8 speed box, the meridian sound system and the improved suspension, electrics and sunroof, it's the portfolio in indigo blue and the best bit and the bit that makes it a perfect dad car car is it has the 3.0ltr supercharged petrol engine which kicks out 340 bhp and similar torque figures. It returns an average of 34 mpg and at 70mph in cruise control with the A/C off it will return 42mpg. Of course it has all the room a dad would need but it's also stunning, it's big, low, wide, aggressive and imposing. A real statement car. It has dynamic mode too and for it's size handles and responds much better than it should. I got mine with only 16,000 miles on it for under £20,000. Now that's a bargain.

    Great review again Ben! Did look at one of these after kids outgrew the back of the DB9. They sound fantastic but the looks I never loved compared to the DB9 or Vanquish. Add in only 2 back seats and the not really very ‘rapide’ 0-60 for the cost when they were newer made them a tough sell. Agreed looking decent value now though. 👍

      @dadcars  Год назад +2

I’d love to do a to road trip with all 4 children in a DBX and make some videos about it. I know a child seat manufacturer that can make them all fit… just need Aston to loan me a press car if you can put a good word in for me, sounds like you know people in high places 😅

    As a Rapide S owner and a dad of 2 I can say the biggest problem with owning it is it's almost impossible to part with it. I want to upgrade to one of the newer products and everything is a compromise. Boot space on the Rapide is unmatched, rear TVs for the girls, the v12 engine and more importantly people don't think you're a complete *"'! for driving one. Won't be selling it any time soon.

      It would be super to contact the OEMs to get info. I contacted Audi back then as my other car was a 1996 A6 Avant and I asked about safety of the rear facing seats (the A6 Avant and our Honda Odysseys were the vehicles that fit all 7 of us). Audi of America actually responded and said Audi did a crash test of another A6 hitting the back of the A6 Avant at 30 mph with no leg intrusion to the rear facing passengers. I would fully recommend paying the big bucks for the Porsche car seats. The confidence in safety is well worth the money, and the OEMs who take the time and effort to develop these products with suppliers market these for customers like us. A video with them on this would be super if it fits with their legal and marketing plans.
