United Counties had a bit-part operation in Stevenage. In late 1989 they'd taken over the old Charles Cook service from Biggleswade to Stevenage and then won contracts to run the 385 to Aston around the timetable of the other service.
I remember some of those Sovereign Nationals in that livery. Quite a nice livery that was. Those TL11 engined Olympians sounded good. And the Lynxes. They were great, Lynxes.
Lynxes were an impressive looking bus but had a slightly ugly rear to them I think. I always admired the clean elegant styling of he National's backside especially the taillight clusters.
Great video. Just how I remember the bus scene at Stevenage in the late 1980s. The garage must have been in its final few months; Sovereign relocated to Babbage Road into the Jubilee Coaches depot. They had purchased Jubilee to end months of cut throat competition; the Road Runner minibuses were originally Jubilee vehicles. The garage finally shut in August 1991, much of the Stevenage network had been sold to Luton & District in 1990.
Thanks for the info. I knew that this visit must have been towards the end of its operational life. I went to an Open Day there once, in 1980 to celebrate 50 Years of Green Line. Had a ride around on RT 1018, it must have been the last time London Country used an RT in service!
Yes, it sort of slowly died, especially when London Country was split up and sold off. I only filmed this as a mate of mine lived here and wanted some film of his local buses. I'm pleased i did now.....
I delayed watching this because I didn't like the bus in the thumbnail. It was a Leyland Tiger!! I used to catch Tigers for years where I grew up. Powerful buses. I sure got my National fix out of this baby! Very interesting footage all round. Those midi buses had a great sound to them. One of your best!
Maybe i should change the thumbnail, i thought the Green Line coach looked more interesting. I do have more from SV but have you seen my other national uploads here ruclips.net/video/-qJUswJbtRc/видео.html and ruclips.net/video/glZCSLY3w48/видео.html....enjoy!
Still annoyed I never rode these, oldest I got was a Volvo Olympian Palatine I. Still a great video, don’t suppose you’ve got any more old Northern Line footage of the old trains in the liveries?
Bleeding hell.... all those nationals whizzing in and out the bus station. Absolute heaven... thanks so much for posting such a brilliant video 😊😊😊😊

I filmed all this for a friend who lived in Stevenage, i'm glad i did now, same as my LFB videos, they were filmed for a friend into AEC vehicles.

Came here for a Green Line fix... surprisingly little contemporary footage of classic Green Line.

Great video of fast classic buses

They were being driven with some elan in and out of the garage there.
All history, the garage was closed and the buses moved onto an industrial estate on the edge of town (story of a lot of places sadly).
Still annoyed I never rode these, oldest I got was a Volvo Olympian Palatine I.

I am away for a week or so but when i get back i will look at another Underground upload and see what Northern Line footage i still have!
Soi Buakhao Thank you!
