European 80s televisions were fantastic. Philips/Schneider/Thomson generally have the same chassis, I have a very similar tv with B90B chassis, a Schneider 17" (from arround 1990) and the quality is pretty good. These televisions were very common in France
Thanks for the comment very intresting to know. 1980s tech had a certain look about them I really love the Japanese 80s designs some of those tvs look great nice colours and designs to, but this is a great little TV that has a nice image as well as a great styling to.

@@hopetagulosI agree people say CRT TVs it's all about the scanlines but actually it's the colour and the depth that cant be reproduced by any flat screen. Emulators seem to think scanlines reproduce a CRT accurately they do not.

@@absolutely0bsolete330 PAL itself was a superior standard. The problem wasn't PAL. The problem was that the games where made for NTSC and then poorly converted.
The PAL Mega Drive didn't come out until late 1990. I don't know what year/revision of PAL Model 1 Mega Drive yours is, but I have a 1990 PAL Model 1 VA4 (HDG-SS non-TMSS) Mega Drive (albeit with a switchless 50/60Hz/region mod), with an April 1990 Signetics SCN68000 (still! - from the original heavily discounted blanket order of 68000s from Signetics before Sega started fitting the real Motorola in 1991, still on VA4 boards) and a May 1990 Yamaha YM2612, so mine must be a UK launch example.

What monitor is that I like to see it? As I've never done this on a crt only a crt monitor on a pc, also stretching a picture while fitting the screen can alter the entended shape of the graphics, say if it was a circle in a game stretching the screen to fit in most cases would turn that shape oval so depending on how far you resize. Overall it can change the intended look of the game in my opinion for the worse but if you want full screen and dont mind some distortion then it's a good way of achieving that it depends on your preference, I personally prefer to keep it the original aspect ratio in keeping with how it was intended look but that's just me. I've never played Sonic as a kit and I (re?)discovered it this days... I played USA version (60hz) but I live in Spain (PAL)... 50hz sounds SOOOOOOOOOOOOOO SLOW
I believe so as pal tends to be 15% slower than a american unit I have a American Saturn via a RGB scart cable all my games are full screen. So I reckon it would be the same situation if you had an american megadrive unit. Glad you enjoyed the video :D

Did pal mega drive games always just have the poor aspect ratio and the blank area on the top and bottom or were the some games that used an increased vertical resolution on pal to correct the ratio?

For the model number I think I can find it for you as I found and took a picture of an Argos magazine advert for it as the orginal model number label is missing from the back of this set.

In Europe all megadrive have native rgb built in not so sure about America and Canada though. So in Europe megadrives have RGB out of box, the only issue is not many people used it back then people used what they had in the box typically RF or Composite connection thats why a lot of developer's used dithering to blend or make it look like the megadrive could show more colours or effects via compostie as most people used that connection type rather than the superior RGB scart connection.

For information regarding its use, call Sega Consumer Service at 1-800-USA-SEGA." That would be BNC R, G, B and sync connections to a professional monitor. The Genesis Model 2 and Model 3 are also wired for RGB output, even though the manuals for *those* consoles *don't* mention it! As for the Japanese Mega Drive, there's a Japanese version of SCART called JP21 which is wired differently at the head end.
Thats about £12.50 in the uk were these systems with no box at the lowest go for £30 so I say Grab it it's a bargin, but before you do what dose it come with? If it has all the cables and a controller its worth that all day long. The model one has better quality sound compared to the model two, plus you have the headphone jack for stereo sound with volume control, great in streets of rage where it takes full advantage of stereo switching from left to right during the beat it sounds epic.

For the that model I paid pretty much the same amount that's a good price and it has scart so you can do RGB scart with this tv great small form factor tv for a CRT doesn't take up to much space grab it buddy and enjoy it, it's a great set for retro gaming.
You mean the blue bars on the top and bottom or the slightly blue bar on the right? If you mean the blue bars above and below that's because of Pal games a lot of them suffer from that it's a European standard, we benefit from scart and better colors and clearness but american units have the full screen but suffer with less clear picture. Also we have 50hz here in america they have 60hz so were slower by 10percent you guys have 10 percent increase in frame rate. As for the blue bar in the right that's just the scart cable I need to buy a better quality one. The megadrive/genesis works perfectly fine.

If your talking about the issue with the right hand side of the screen a lot of crts seem to push the image to the left when using RGB with a 60hz mod on a megadrive you get full screen and no left shift this seems to solve itself via RGB 60hz strangely.
This is actually how I play my Mega Drive today!

Seeing 50hz Sonic 1 on a CRT is super relaxing tbh.

I have like a stretch feature on my CRT TV so I can adjust the picture to my liking

You need a better Sega Genesis, it can't even fit fully in a CRT TV.
