    Went to a electrocution when I worked for the power company. Found a young guy electrocuted he was stuck between a fridge door and a metal support pipe after moving it outside for a party the next day very sad . After we removed his body I checked and found a active neutral cross on the power point plugged into a lead with a neutral earth cross creating a lethal energisation of the fridge frame . Sometimes non lethal issues can become lethal when used together.

      That's horrible .. the real consequences of stuff like this

      The terrible part of stuff like this is the wire terminals on Australia wall sockets plates and rewire plugs are labelled with at least A and E but usually N too. Some of them are even colour coded. DIYer (and I'm hoping it was a case of DIYer) couldn't even be bothered to check wires went in the right terminals.

      @@Mainly_Electrical yes it was horrific I could smell burning flesh as I walked up the driveway just as the police arrived . He had fallen onto a metal support of carport and was still in contact with the fridge door current was still flowing thru his body . I turned the main switch off before approaching him . Can never forget that smell and his father walking around in circles in absolute emotional agony then had to assist moving him into the morgue wagon after photos and investergation as both police where lightly built women . Not something I would like to experience again.

      @noelcastle3986 very sad and chilling. As an Electrical Engineer, I am not sure that I could work again after experiencing that 😢. I work with medium to high voltage DC systems with high stored charge, where there are safety systems in place to enforce procedure because you don't get a second chance. It is still ingrained though about the dire consequences if things go wrong.
      Your experience with the fridge reinforces the importance of PAT testing (UK), where it really does save lives!

    GN 3 doesn’t permit R1+R2 to be calculated only the earth fault loop impedance. May have been the homeowner as the socket is different from the rest.

    I check polarity with a martindale socket tester

    Well spotted Sir. Class 1 appliance plugged into that socket clould have been lethal under fault conditions. Once had a customer say to me, anyone can fit sockets it's a simple job. (Unbelievable) And this is what competent Electricians find every day complete balls up of an apparently simple job 😂

    Is important to test ring final circuit Properly in this instance you could code 1 because conductor is not terminated in the right polarity and you could kill some one but mainly electric is top sparky 👊

    Could you tell me a couple of dangerous things that could happen with this N E reverse fault Thanks

    • @alvina69
      @alvina69 4 месяца назад +3

      The CPC is sufficiently smaller than the live conductors and may not be able to carry the same amount of current as the live conductor.

    I thought the plus or minus 0.05 tolerance was only for end to end testing? So it's for the cross connection as well or just good practice?

  • @biglefigle6954
    @biglefigle6954 4 месяца назад

    That's another reason to use a socket tester as well this will show you the fault

      What socket tester ?

    • @Jonesy551
      @Jonesy551 4 месяца назад

      Socket testers can give you a false positive reading if E and N are crossed polarity

  • @Edgariux111
    @Edgariux111 4 месяца назад

    A socket tester would also pock this fault up ?

    • @Mainly_Electrical
      @Mainly_Electrical  4 месяца назад +2

      it wouldn't .. n and e at same potential.. it wouldn't know the difference .. I only use them for testing to hear when a circuits gone off that's all

    I had this today, it L-N was round the wrong way on the load on the grid switch, very dangerous as it won’t blow the fuse in the appliance if there is a problem, it will just blow the appliance.

    • @Mainly_Electrical
      @Mainly_Electrical  4 месяца назад

      Plug top fuse in circuit neutral very poor mate .. grids are often poorly done
