Who wants another video with me doing a blind comparison and picking a winner based on these audio tracks?
Or use the Strymon Sunset and get all the sounds from all those pedals in a midi enabled pedal?
pls do one with fuzz pedals, love them
Do the fuzzes please 😁✌️
Yes please! As well as your top 5 (not blind tho)
Me!
Great demos. There are so many good dual drives out there now that it’s difficult to choose. Thanks for taking the time to showcase these.

Amazing playing, amazing pedals and tone. What this shows me is that many of us own way too many drive pedals and obsess over the little nuances when actually they do all sound almost identical.
The skills of a guitar player would be about 90% of the outcome. 10% would be the pedal. And the sexy girl in the audience getting wet will always respond if you can develop your guitar playing skills and to be the 90%.
True, true. Same with guitar tone. An EQ pedal is the best pedal to have on your board.
I'm surprised he didnt have a TrueTone Jekyll & Hyde dual pedal. Mine can be dialed in infinitely. Lots of tone knobs to play with.
@@firebald2915Love my V2 Jekyll and Hyde! I've owned three over the years and come back to it often, like an old friend
I could get my with just an EQ, a compressor and my three Truetone pedals: Jekyll and Hyde V2, H2O V1, Tap Delay V3.
@mattgilbert7347 I hear ya ! I just switched to Elixir Phosphor Bronze strings on my thinline Tele to get more string tone out of it and got a wound G which gets rid of that nasty squeal that predominates too much. Running a Fender LT25 bypassing that 8" speaker into an aged G12k Eminence. I love mid range tone crunch clean then put my Jekyll&Hyde OD to punch it up from clean. That speaker cab (Crate) made my weekend happy as can be. EQ and my Cloudburst and I'm set.
@@firebald2915 I'm a fan of wound-Gs!
Back when I played a MIJ Vox SG copy, we were a kind of grungy/proto-"Queens of the Stone Age" Indie band and I used 13s or 14s on the Vox with only 5 strings (no high E). The G on that was, ofc, wound. We tuned it down 2-4 steps.
Second guitar was an Epiphone Explorer with 10-46 standards on it, tuned to a couple of alternative tunings depending on the song.
I ran a 100W Fender Solid State 1x12 combo for the first few years, then finally got my first Valve amp, a beast of a thing made in Dunedin, New Zealand. "Gerard" 75W EL34 Power valves, 3 or 4 12AX7s in the pre (maybe 1 was a 12AU7... long time ago). I had three pedals and one all-analog mini-rack reverb/,delay. 330ms analog delay and it had a tiny spring inside!
Pedals were a RAT clone, a Washburn Stereo Chorus, and a DD2 or DD3.
So simple, so loud, and soooo good. The 90s. Such a great time until late-stage Capitalism decided we were having too much fun, not generating enough profit, and with the assistance of the CIA....ever wonder about that heroin "fad" of the 90s? I sure do. After what they did to inner-city communities in the USA in the 80s/early 90s with crack, it wouldn't surprise me if they were partially to blame for the boom in heroin in the 90s that contributed to the downfall of the emerging Indie/Grunge/Alternative scene.
But the equipment we used was basic AF yet so inspiring.
Thank you for this amazing comparison. Great playing and sounds. Many of these pedals sound great. Wannahaves from this video: The Dane, The Duellist, Double Dreams and The Volta 1987. Currently on my board: RR Fat Drive, Suhr Eclipse and EP Boost.
Sasha! Your content is just WICKED!! AMAZING!! Thank you very much indeed for your work!!
Excellent demo of these pedals. Subscribed!
Amazing work Sasha. Impressive overall quality. 2 mentions apart the ones I already know for me : ThorpyFX Heavy Water and JAM Pedals Double Dreamer.
This was amazing. Thank you for all the work this must have taken
Quality content at its best. I have to agree.
Great video! One of my favourite and underrated dual overdrives is the T-Rex Moller. Tubescreamer with a seperate boost. What really makes it cool is, that it has a blend knob on the tubescreamer side, which is great if you really want that gainy midpush, but also want to dial in a bit more transparency. bargain on the used market.
Oh man, that Imperium really grabbed me. Excellent video as always.
Loved the Protein! Clear, warm and good vintage vibes
First of all, thank you so much Mr. Ivantic. Second, your Strat pickups are wonderful. Third, To my ears, I feel the Nordvang and the King of tone are my favorites. A tie. With the Nordvang being more versatile. Fulltone and Protein really close, but the King of Tone and Nordvang somehow managed to get rid of any fizz and also managed to sound almost uncompressed, and keep a bright sound. Simply more pleasant to the ears and less harsh. I could go on and on. Kudos to all of these fine pedals.
You bluesy/SRV style is awesome! It makes me remember when I first time I learned the blues, (about 1976) once ya learn the blues, they never leave ya....... Thanks for the video!
Awesome demo! Awesome Channel!! Would love to see the same thing with fuzz pedals :D
Great video. You did awesome job showcaseing the differences.
Like the Fulldrive is nice tight compressed drive, still dynamic but everything is kept in place.
Where Royal Flush or Dane where sparkly lowgain, very open sounding, loads of dynamics and jumping up and down depending on pick dynamics.
Unobtainiu and Gladio gets the fuzzy cusion around notes, they get dirty, but not compressed.
The Nordwang get that hard, sharp distorted tones, etc etc.
I was so hoping for the VS/XO by visual sound or truetone now....I've had it for years and can't seem to find a better one. Great video sir.
I always come back to the FULLDRIVE2, feels like home of overdrive
as always in these comparison videos we al have our own preferences. For example, I am very impressed with Kasleder's Toxic Twins pedal, This pedal is in KOT territory. But you can't please us all. Great video Sacha, thanks!
You are the best kind of madman. Well done Sasha!
I love my Browne Protein!! It's replaced a bunch of drive pedals. Just wished for more EQ options, more mids, etc. But they really did a great job on it!!
Great video! Thanks. I've been using a Lovepedal Amp 11 for a few years now & love it! I try others but keep going back to the Lovepedal.
It's an awesome pedal and underrated. No one talks about it but you can get some great tones out of it.
The Longsword is on my list... thanks for the demos!
Tasteful playing! Great selection of drives.
How do u only have 11k subscribers. Ur one of the best guitar channels in my opinion. TPS, JHS and Sasha Ivantic are my go to channels for pedals. Your awesome man!
Totally agree. Sascha is the best.
Give him a chance he used to work for Max guitar store. He’ll get there. I like that strat Sasha.
I ask myself the same question. I hope his channel does great in the future, Sasha certainly deserves to have a bigger following. I sometimes repeat his videos just to hear Sasha play again. Sooo amazing!
And Paul Davids
I think people come to Sasha’s channel for his personality and playing as much as the actual demos. He’s one of those players that sounds the same - always great - through any pedal. Sasha has that dark, lower mids-fat sound with a touch of clean transient, and the lovely mix of major and minor penta noodling, whether he is in front of a Thorpy Dane, Fuzz Face, treble booster or a KoT etc etc. Players like Sasha, Shawn Tubbs and Mike Hermans dial in a tone they like and then do their thing - they are proof that tone is in the fingers but also that you can generally get ‘your’ sound through nearly anything.
Amazing video and playin Sasha! But now I really can‘t decide between the Dane and the Nordvang 83.
I’m gonna have to go with the Volta Blue! Thank you Sasha for creation this!!!
Oh wow! Thank you Charles! 🙌
@@voltacustom great pedal but too bad the boost side can't be activated on its own...
This is so valuable a video for me. I’ve been wondering about some of these pedals and great to hear them all compared. I’ve saved and shared the video with friends. Thank you so much for this! Would love to see similar videos for reverb and for delay!
What guitar and was used, and what pickups?
What amp?
Thx and God bless you
You are a monster! :D Great video, very cool tones! :)
The Browne Protein is so good! Thank you Sasha!!!
How are more people not talking about the Ami Silverbell?! out of all of these it instantly caught my attention. such a big clear sound. Might have nab one at some point.
Yes, that one sounded killer!
That’s an impressive list. 😂 love the video!!
I have and love the duelist and barber gain changer. Really love your Protein, Thorpe Dane! Surprisingly KOT didn’t do much for me.
Duellist and the Dane v2 are on my shortlist. Great playing.
Awesome video, Sasha! 😃😃😃
Phenomenal job with this. I preferred The Duellist, Unobtainium, and the Volta 1987 - but you could not-go-wrong, with any of them. My favorite Overdrive is the Barber Electronics Gain Changer SR. oNe LovE from NYC
The JAM Double Dreamer sounds incredible
The VS Audio Royal Flush stood out for me. Had a Browne Protein for a few months then sold it.
Nice video. Still ask myself why I never see the Suhr Eclipse in such video’s. I got the duellist and Suhr on my board. Both great dual overdrives!!
Oh that creepy autofader thingy at the end sounds good but looks freakin awesome. Should have something like that as a passcode for entereing the house! Get the three combos right to enter 😂
Awesome video. My 1st time seeing Nordvang. Blown away and will be buying asap.
Do it. You will not be disappointed
I've currently been rocking an old Hughes & Kettner Tube Factor for over a year now. Lovely thing. The only wish I have is to have a tiny volume boost on the high gain side as the increase of saturation makes it disappear into the mix a bit more. But sound and feel are really nice!
tube factor is great i own one also.
That Ami was SUPER cool. The mid lift certainly did not disappoint! Never heard of it till now. Very awesome.
Thank you Matthew!!
@@amieffects5754 i wish i knew about your company before this video. The Silverbell was the pedal that spoke to me the most in Sasha's video. Sounded fantastic!!! I was looking at your website and noticed your located in France. Do you ship to America, and if so, are there any extra duty/fees that aren't included in the initial shipping cost?
@@orryfishburne5326 Thanks a lot!! It's indeed a very interesting video!! Yes we do ship worldwide. There should be some import fees and added VAT when you inport in America. It depends of the laws in your state I think.
the longsword sounded INSANELY good as a light drive, and does super heavy just as well.
Hi Sasha great video thx and great playing❤❤. Are u using the Fulltone in the FM mode or in the CC mode ?
I really like the fulltone the Silverbell and The Dane...great fantastic pedals.
Toll, wie du die Stärken der einzelnen Pedale hervorbringst!
Absolutely amazing undertaking! Wow!
I’m probably wrong, but I don’t think the KOT has any TS based topology.
The Imperium is the one that comes instead of the Gladio.
Inace svaka cast brate, jako kul video!
Hvala puno!
The Protein is so good it’s ridiculous. I adore that pedal. Also love the KoT and the Unobtanium. Great video!
Crazy that after a 20 pedal shootout I’m still thinking “I can’t believe he didn’t include the D&M Drive, the Strymon Sunset, the Wampler Pantheon . . .”
They’re all great pedals. I’m a pedal addict. I have them. Just ordered the cornerstone imperial. Oh I have the D@M too. And the crossfire. Both good too. And way too many more.
Totally agree
and the kingsley jouster which beats them all.
@@louiscyfer6944or a TrueTone Jekyll & Hyde. I love mine ! Adds boost to clean, too. EQ accordingly.
The Wampler Pantheon Deluxe is the best thing since sliced bread, imo. I also was surprised that it wasn't included here.
The Silktone's clean sound is amazing.
Awesome. Great videos!
Can't wait for your "I tested 142 Fuzz pedals" video!
Part 1 is 142
The best Dual OD Design _imo_ -
Channel 1 is a smooth OD that sits back in mix. Channel 2 is a BD style tone that cuts. Together you’ve got high gain that sustains for days.
Royal Flush nailed this. Would love to try one.
Wow..! My ears are tired now 😂
This was fun!
I liked the following:
- VS Audio Royal Flush had a sweet harmonic top end none of the others had.
- Nordvang 83 Drive seems versatile and offered a crisp fuzzy breakup.
- Jam Pedals Double Dreamer gave a fat yet transparent bottom end.
However, my overall feeling is that most of these drives are unnecessary if you have a good amp and use your volume knob.
I love Jetter dual overdrives and dual overdrive/boost pedals (as well as his Fuzz(es), Unvibe/Phaser) with the two I use most often being the Jetdrive V2 and Red Square.
I've been using my Jetdrive for nearly 13 years!! It's like the KOT of Dumble-ish voiced dual ODs.
Great video!!! Keep it up!
Wampler Pantheon (which is not included) is one awesome dual overdrive. Another one is the DSM & Humboldt Silver Linings Pre Amp pedal. Check these out!
Hi Sasha,
after having followed your good advice about the Jam Pedals retro vibe (I bought it and I am extremely happy!!! so much happy that I have also bought the ripply fall and the delay llama mkIII...just incredible pedals!!!)...
So...clarified I trust your advice...now I am back to you for another one 🙂!!!!
I have just started with my band mates a new project for a blues gig (only blues with all the great classics...) ...so now I realize I have to buy a very good overdrive as well as a fuzz for the purpose!!! I am currently using a TS9 + a fulltone OCD...but after a couple of rehearsals I am not happy at all!
PLEAAASE help me!!!!
Some hints: I play mainly with a strat but I would like something very good also for my les paul as well as for my duesenberg startplayer TV...
I use a Tone King imperial mkii and/or a Friedman twin sister...And I look for an overdrive that is transparent (possibly a double overdrive?) because I love the tone of my amps!!!
And also versatile!!!! good for both amps and for single coils and humbuckers...
From this video my feeling would be: Duellist, Nordvang (I see there are diverse Nordvang dual overdrive), Jam pedals, protein, The Dane...
maybe I would also need a clean boost on top of a dual overdrive pedal?????
....and what about the fuzz?? in that case I am oriented to the fuzz phrase from jam pedals (apparently excellent for the clean-up tones...).
Finally...to add further uncertainty...why not the chase bliss preamp mkii that does everything???
PLEASE help!!! I am lost!!!
Cheers,
Alessandro
I don't think Sasha can advise you, as they are all very high end pedals and not everyone has the same tastes. Among these I have the VS Audio Royal Flush, the Cornerstone Imperium (actually I have the Gladio SC and the Antique) but also the Browne Carbon (the blue side of the Protein) and I can tell you that if you got one of these 3 you wouldn't regret it
Very nice selection of pedals. My main takeaway from this was how close they all sound to each other. Perhaps more chordal work in the demo would reveal more tonal differences? Thanks for putting this together. Cheers!
Definitely! Plus stacked with another overdrive, fuzz and distortion respectively. And of course, played in full band context with two guitars, bass and drums. That would be a big project.
And maybe several albums with completely different bands showing the pedals with different genres. Now that's a project.
Different strings and picks also effect how the pedal reacts, so demo those as well.
great vid dude!
Nice one putting Pete's favorite color topper on the dane
I only have single channel overdrives on my board atm, however it's a Chase Bliss Condor, Kingsley Page and a Origin Effects revivaldrive compact - and I love all on them :P
Impressive review. Did you sell your home to accumulate all these pedals?!?
One more dual pedal to consider is the REVV Amplification Tilt Overdrive. It’s the only OD pedal I’ve tried that doesn’t have the midrange “hump” of Tube Screamers.
Sooooo many pedals to keep us entertained (and broke), but I believe a skilled player can slay with a simple OD, good amp and playing techniques.
Nice man, would just like to hear the pedals on diff gtrs/pickup positions
I bought the Brown Protein and tried to love it, i just didnt bond with it so i let it go. Now i bougt the Nordvang 83 drive and i love it. Immediately i started digging it and put it through many of my amps and along with the HX Stomp and this one isn't leaving me, its a keeper!
Hey Sasha, do you remember how did you set the internal trim pots of the KOT? Looking at your setting on the yellow side I guess it was as boost and red side as od, since those volume settings are WAY QUITE loud.
Nevermind the pedals, your playing is killer. Cheers!
Thanks man, I didn’t touch any internal trimmers.
Boost/Drive so subjective, hard to choose!
But dude love your feels! 😎
On another note. The Volta 87, godamn. Now that is pedal, that really sounds and behaves like my actual plexi. Good job Italy
Really stoked to hear that! Thanks! A LOT of research goes into our pedals ♥️
@@voltacustom and it shows
The strat sound awesome! What are those in-house pickups based on?
So so so many goof sounds!! I'd have to admit that much of that is in the fingers ;-)
But as a preference I'd have to say the Jam pedal. Only because it has the options for the money. Everything from there can be dialed in :)
Excellent demo Sasha, how are you capturing your video and audio for your demo? On another subject, the best pedal any player can have on their board is a great parametric eq. I have one called a Fromel Shape.... incredible increase in fidelity. It is the sauce in every great players line up, in my honest opinion.
Thanks a lot! I use Sony mirrorless cams and a Rode NTG2 to capture voice. Guitar is going from the Boss TAE into the interface.
my 3 favs from your playing:
1. Kingtone - The Duelist
2. Cornerstone Gladio
3. Heavy water
A wish from me also is that you would test the Ethos TWE and the Revv Tilt. Thanks!
Protein, Nordvang, cornerstone and that jam pedal all sound really great
Your playing is as hot as your shirt. I miss the Kasleder Toxic Twins in your choice, great sounding dual OD. Keep on, THX!
The Toxic Twins is amazing. My favorite drive to date. It's definitely a pedal that will always be on my board
Im looking for a Dumble type pedal, so for me it’s gonna be either the Unobtanium or the Imperium. This demo doesn’t make it any easier. Excellent testing.
Just get both! 😂 rock on, brother!
Shin music dumbloid is the best there is for dumble tone be warned it is expensive
@@93Rats it is.
There are 18 pedals in this list that I think are far above exceptional. I bet if I owned them all, I would only play two or three and the rest would collect dust. But that is only because I am always searching for the same tones out of my own hands. Wish there was a way to “rent all of them at once for a week. A pedal vacation!
Exactly
Find sounds you like to make
Lots of ways to get there usually
Wow seems like a ton of work man! I don’t really care about the pedals, just here for the tasty licks. You sound like you no matter which pedal it is. ❤
Thanks a lot!
I care Sasha. And I can’t stop buying them. Actually, I bought the quad cortex and I love it. But I still love my amps and for awhile I stopped buying pedals but it got me again. The pedal addiction. Oh no I want the Volta 1987. Help!!!!
great video, thanks! where did you buy that pedal "holder"? is it available somewhere?
Thanks man! Hit up Marcus Dluxe on IG or Google him. He makes em in all sizes and colours.
Wow they all sound nice. How do you choose what to use? I just received an unobtainium today.🤩
Like with any decision I have to make; my mood decides. Which has gotten me into a lot of trouble in the past
Kasleder ToxicTwins missing! Best one i have tested so far.
Would send it over for a test if you will!
Great job!!!!!
It's very hard to find them, but I love the Hungry Robot LG/HG. Underrated company.
You could regard the Xotic RC Booster (v2) as a dual overdrive. That's a good one, as are all of their old dual overdrives.
Another unbelievably good one is the J.Rocket Tim Pierce overdrive.
And off course, the Hudson Electronics Dual Broadcast.
To be fair, I haven't played the last one, but I find that pedal very intriguing.
Shocker: I really wanted to dislike the KOT, but hell, that thing sounds good. 😕
On this list...the Duelist. One my board the Truetone VS-XO...Nobels/ODR/Drivetrain on one side...expanded TS on the other. Waiting to be tested...Wampler Dual Fusion.
Dag Saskia, ik heb een vraag, zijn de knoppen van de potein dual pedal dezelfde als op de Royal flush van vs audio? Ik bedoel zachte druk knoppen? Alvast bedankt! Groetjes vanuit België!
Excellent video!!
I'm ordering Volta Custom The Blue thanks to your post.
And probably, 3-4 others as well.
Actually, NO, no thanks.....
I'll be broke by time I check out the ones I like.
Yeah, thanks for NOTHING.
😉😉
Just kidding.... I liked and subscribed today.
I'm hooked on low/med gain OD's.... keep up the good work. 👍🏻👍🏻

That was a lot of work. Thank you
That VS Royal Flush when you kick in both sides!
Thanks for the video.
Was wondering if you know if there is any difference in sound between V2 and V3 Protein?
Thanks.
I don’t know, but Browne will!
It would have been fun if T-Rex Møller was pedal numer 21, because I've got that pedal. It sounds great on my rig. This is a fun video regardless, it's very informative.
The jam double dreamer and the Royal flush for me. Goodness!
Have u ever tried the Kasleder Fx Toxic Twins? (Not a criticism that its not in your video. Just wanted to mention it in hopes to get u to try it if u havent yet. Lol) Its fantastic!! Dual overdrive thats hand built in Hungary and is sold through Thomman or Kasleder directly. Its a vintage spec'd tube screamer into a Blues Breaker like the majority of dual drives these days, but man its insanely good. Its response to touch dynamics are out of this world. The blues breaker side set to edge of breakup is heavenly, and the tube screamer side is the best sounding tube screamer i have ever played, but once again the magic is in its dynamic response. Both sides stack incredibly well even with both channels on full gain, and it can handle any pedal i put before it without farting out. Its my favorite overdrive ive tried. Prefer it over the King Tone The Duellist by a long shot. I hope u get to try it and see for yourself, its a wonderful pedal
I watched/listened to the whole video. I'm an avid dirt pedals collector as well and it's funny to me how similar the ace of tone sounded to the K.O.T. , which I hate that I should but the Duelist sounds way better to my ears than it ever did. I love mine. The pedal besides the Duelist I'm probably going to go buy now is the Gladio...that just plain sounded good. Different enough to matter yet still not too dissimilar for what close to perfect tone sounds like. The Duelist is tough to beat though...
I'm about 2.5 years into my king of tone wait. Still hyped. I think a Protein might be next as a stop gap measure though.
You'll need three more pedals to fill that hole in your heart before you get the KoT 🤣
I told myself no more overdrive pedals for a year that's just changed lol 😆 great playing to mate

I have the Protein and the Gladio on my board. I love the Protein but I'm still working on the Gladio. I can't get it to sound like it does in this video. Mine seems a little muddy. I wonder if I got a bad pedal or if I just haven't figured the thing out yet. I wish it would clean up more.
I guess if it's sound muddy or overly dark it's because of channel 2... you can open it up and raise the presence trimmer which will make it brighter
@@cornerstonegear I didn't know that was something I could do! I'm going to look into that. Thank you.
Really liked that 1987 pedal , lots of ways to use that one
What about the tube based dual overdrives of Blackstar ?
