@Koifish I'm suprised you overlooked the fact that Bjorn starts with the viking trait in your playthrough, this trait isn't only beneficial for the norse character but an essential trait to possibly the easiest and the most broken decision you can take as any norse ruler in ck3 which "Elevate the Kingdom of Mann&Isles" by using the son's of lothbrok on british isles that is happening immediately on the start of 867 AD you can use the chaos and betray Bjorn's Brother Ivar and take the land of mon from his vassal ketil, then after you can focus on gaining prestige from hunt, feasts and raids you can quickly raise to the rank of the Living Legend, then use the claim duchy casus beli on the duchy of monn from jarl ivar the boneless once again, and the decision of elevation of kingdom of mann&isles is unlocked,by appling this decision on your realm and buying the Thoughtful and True rules perk from the dynasty lifestyle you have the kingdom of sweden, kingdom of mann and the isles, feudal government with abilty to raid over seas,7500k of soldiers in total in the matter of 20-30 years, combine with hybridization of the anglo-saxon and norse or sapmi and norse cultures together and you can choose if you wish to be the future high king of the northern seas, the emperor of scandinavia or go with a wild card and take both.
I appreciate this lession Koifish. I would love to see how you do the African Campain in the same way. Let me explain this more. I helt nearly all of Africa together for generations and it all went to hell when I was close to the end. I just can't seem to accomplish this feat. I would love to see your strategies to completing this task.
I''d love to see a tutorial about starting as an Empire (ala the Byzantine or the Abbasid). Seems like a LOT to manage at once and running an Empire can involve a lot of moving parts.
You can raise an unraised army while being at war if you click on one of your county and raise your army there, then select raiding army at the bottom left
This video was awesome Koi! I'd love for you to continue doing a series like this with other concepts and mechanics. Then you can remain the #1 Viking on RUclips. ... KISS MY AXE!!!
Hi Koi, I appreciate the long-form guide on how to quickly play wide as Vikings. What I'd like to see as an idea, is how you would transition this playthrough from Wide to Tall, or to at least begin development to build taller after taking your first empire title, with the goal of either world conquest, or some other big goal (Reforming Rome, conquering all of Russia, etc) I know the standard play is to either shift to Lollardy or to reform Asatru to be more *like* Lollardy, and then start focusing Learning/Stewardship, but I'd like to see your take on how you'd do something like this specifically with those kinds of bigger goals in mind.
A good start I can recomend is a custom Asatrú Norse character on the Island of Crete in 867, as soon as the game starts you swear fealty to the Byzantine Emperor in return for religious exemption and then you can raid the Mediterranean to your hearts contempt. This is extra good because you won't have raiding competition in the Med and Italy is a rich land ripe for plunder.
Well no the island is held by a Muwalladi Andalusian but I just play it off as the Emperor giving the island to the Varangians in return for them taking it back in his name.
@41:30 you say 1500 varangian veterans, but I believe it was 1000 and 500 Huscarls. Unless I missed you dismissing them in favor of VV (which I definitely would do personally). Anyway very good video, even taught me a thing or two about vassalage... I tend to conquer all my land.
I always like to get the perk know thyself and disinherit the sons i dont want, but at the last moment, so that a murder inclined someone won't try to get theirs another way and the modifier doesn't mess with me while my character is still young and doing stuff. primogeniture, but with a prestige and renown cost
Every time I play Norse, I get crusaded against really early, it can be scary for new players but at Emperor tier when you max out your retinues and buff them with fully upgraded war camps, you will wipe the floor with the Crusaders (not to mention the god awful crusader ai). The next step is too invade Italy and dismantle the Papacy even Kingdom holy war is winnable (if you are reformed) since most the catholic realms will be greatly weakened after a failed Crusade.
Like doing this with Harald Hårfagre (Fair hair or Tanglehair as he starts out). I like to work my way up from 17 year old chief with only 3 counties to become the Fylkir of the Scandinavian High Kingdom rather than begin as a Jarl.
I hate how in this game they got rid of personal goals. In 2 he had a special one for unlimited subjugation conquests until you formed Norway. Now you have to either go against the grain with diplomacy or steal the land from everyone and give it to others.
I randomly started again, but on ps5. I started as hordafylke, my home area irl. I did in 15 years establish kingdom of norway and in the first lfetime i had a standing army of 8000. My sons quarelled after my death and te kingdom split into many lords and vassals, stilll a kingdom. Down from 11 domains the player heir started with 2 and grew powerful enough to overthrow te evil brother. But sweden became too strong and dismantled norway

The Vikings are the most op cultures to play with. Just go full martial with their overpowered units and then raid and conquer. You get more prestige the more you conquer and fight and you get more units. Rinse and repeat until you are the most powerful kingdom/empire.
"Even if you breach the walls, it will take a number beyond reckoning, thousands, to storm Constantinople." "Tens of thousands." "But my lord there is no such force." *Viking army intensifies*
@Koifish By playing viking for a long time, I reached the year 1000 at the empire level. Before, I reformed the religion and changed the culture, there was no problem. But as soon as I enter the years 999-1000, my RAID feature disappears. And I'm very curious why. I would be very happy if someone who knows please write the reason.

Thanks for this! I’m new to the game, coming from eu4. Viking gameplay sounds way more fun than a Ireland playthrough. Is there a way to integrate vassal lands? Or is managing vassals something you just have to do
*EDIT* Disregard. Should my experience be encountered by anyone else, my issue was relative troop strength. As soon as that caught up the vassal dominoes started falling! 😆 You have great videoes and lots of great advice, but this doesn’t work. I paid off both guys near me that had vassal offer as an option and nothing. They are both +100 relation and the vassal offer acceptances are -1 and -20. I’m pretty sure there are some randomized stats or traits that make this the case but that also means recreating this as a tutorial walkthrough is broken. Still, love the channel and your videos are as informative on mechanics as they are hilarious and entertaining. 😄

And I came out on top. Got kind of derailed there.

How to Viking:
1. Max out your men-at-arms
2. Varangian Adventure to the Steppe
3. Become the Greatest of Khans
plus, combine norse culture with oghuz. now you have horse archers along with varangians.
