There are many gold medalists in swimming, but I've never seen anyone swim as gracefully and beautifully as she does. Before going to the pool, I always watch videos of Stephanie Rice for image training. Thank you for the great videos.
Thank you, this is a perfect video and explained well! I am trying to learn to swim. I swam 52 laps in 90 minutes before watching your video. Today I swam 55 laps in 60 minutes and was not nearly as tired as before. I finally understood what keeping your elbows up really meant and telling us to use our “lats” made all the difference in my techniques. Thank you so very much!!!❤
Ohhh that’s sooo fantastic. Well done! What a huge improvement. I’m so glad the tips were helpful and yes using your lats makes a really big difference
She is a great swimmer thanks to you I have been able to improve my swimming styles thanks Estefani I hope to see more of your videos you are a source of inspiration
Thank you so much this video really helped me since I qualified for the olympics and didn't know how to swim. You are a real saver and I got a gold metal. thank u
As for abs, as a Speedo coach said, "suck in your gut like you are trying to put your belly button on your spine". Less of a problem for you youngsters, and more of a problem for oldsters like me, 72... Biggest improvement in my kicking came from learning that you are supposed to go a bit pigeon toed. For those of us that have poor toe point/dorsi flesion, going 30 degrees in gives about 20 extra degrees of toe point. I also noticed that having my hand cupped like the paddle board oars, or the oars used for the facing skull row boats, will yield a bit more propulsion. Never seen that in any video. For kicking, I dropped the kick boards in favor of a snorkel. With the board you have your head too high, which makes your feet too low, and you are not learning to use the upper body rotation that you use in swimming. In the 6 beat kick, the 1 kick is the power kick that is linked to the pulling arm. The 2 and 3 kick are more like the kick board kicks, almost no hip rotation, which is why they are weaker..
Think it’s just the Aussie way of speaking, but gee you make it sound so easy! I’ve watched heaps of swim channels but they make it seem so complicated. I’ll definitely be using your tips. Thanks from a fellow Aussie. 🇦🇺 👍🏽
Do so, is easy, if you can. There is the for most people unknown way for get the know how it takes, and the steady effort in practice all the way to became as good. Thats actually the true way towards every greatness. Big deal is always the hard, tricky, long way to become a master.
Hi Stephanie. I've watched a lot of videos on RUclips. This is easily the most easy to understand, I'll try to improve with your advice and become a fish like you. Thanks Mark 🎉
Almost everyone out here says that you should kick from the hips but they don't specify. Now I know... down with QUADS, up with HAMSTRINGS. Just tried it out and I swear it is a game changer! It feels awesome and much easier. Thank you Stephanie.
Dang! These are the best videos at explaining all the things I need to know!! Congrats!! I can't find anything better than this! Suggestion from a fan: I would connect more tightly your videos and your 8-week courses! You could benefit quite a bit from that!
Yes! It would give you more website visits. You have beyond excellent videos -- for real. Tying them both -- videos & 8-weeks -- will give you more website visits.
Hi stephanie, I'm glad to see your videos. And thank you for your time Can you make video about arrow freestyle And thank you again for teaching us swimming.
Thanks for the tips! I don’t swim freestyle the most as I struggle to a length without taking a gulp of water! I am trying to inhale with my head down but end up taking in water and everything falls apart! I will keep persevering! Thanks!
Stephanie is the first woman in history to break 4:30 in 400 m long course Individual Medley - the hardest discipline. Fun fact: it earned the 400th summer Olympic medal for Australia (at Beijing Olympics)👌🙏🥂❤️
Rice, here I see you do 2 kicks for one arm stroke. I guess swimmers do it for short distances. Could you show and tell us how swimmers do 1 kick for one stroke, like Ledecky does for 1500m. Swimmers who swim in the open water use just this techique.
Hi Stephanie, this video is a school in freestyle in itself. Two question though. As a recreational swimmer at 5'6'' tall, do you think I can achieve 50 free in less than 40 seconds with a 2 beat kick? I am not a very good kicker so trying to cut short by increasing the stroke rate.
Yes absolutely!! That will come down to how much power you are generating from your arms. If you can lengthen your stroke and get more power from each arm pull, there’s no reason why you can’t drop your time down
Thanks for this video. Your technique is lovely, but it's also different than what other channels like Effortless Swimming suggest. Your arms are entering the water almost flat -- others teach fingertips first, arm not fully extended until you catch and reach straight. You're also kicking a lot more than other channels recommend. Some say, minimal kicks. You're also looking forward -- other swim channels recommend looking down to keep from dropping the legs. Are these intentional choices? Can you help explain the differences in technique? I'm concerned about learning the wrong way if there's so much variation between tutorials.
Thank you! Why don’t you try a 25m where you go really slow and take super long strokes to try and get the count to about 17, and then one where you go flat out, and likely you will be around 22. Adding my power to your push offs on the wall and also kicks under the water, will all decrease your stroke count + obviously more power and strength in your upper body
@@stephanierice-swimming thank you very much fir your answer. With a pull buoy and slowly I can hit 16 strokes. I decided to video myself and my legs without the pull buoy were completely apart (scissoring). So I have been working on keeping the kick very tight...but ended up with 19 strokes per lap 😱. My feeling is that I dont glide enough and I think it is because my kick is very unpropulsive. 🤷🏻♂️
I love this video. You make swimming freestyle look so easy. I really want to perfect my kick rhythm . Can you do a video on the 2 beat / 6 beat kick ? 😃
Stephanie, how many strokes do you do per breathe and does it depend on the what you are doing e.g. sprinting, middle distance, long distance or training? Thanks
IF u train do every fifth ,its like must be . I swim 3 years and when i started breathe every 5th, i improved my swim, but it is hard i believe . When u sprinting go with 2 strokes each breathe
Ohhh nooo. Ok so maybe your body isn’t flat in the water. Think about your head position and maybe lowering it closer to the water so your legs are more horizontal … and also take note of your feet to make sure your ankles are pointed
Too good a swimmer Me I get 22to 24 strokes per length in 18 m pool My coach told me I am very inefficient swimmer I have tried everything but unable to do anything
There are many gold medalists in swimming, but I've never seen anyone swim as gracefully and beautifully as she does. Before going to the pool, I always watch videos of Stephanie Rice for image training. Thank you for the great videos.
Thanks Stephanie. We can all aspire to look so effortless & smooth like you do gliding along the surface of the water.
Aww thank you. Yes swimming with ease is definitely the goal

I have learned a lot from you to coach my daughter. She is quite a good swimmer at 8 years old.
Thanks !
nobody explained this as nicely as you did. especially the emphasis on keeping abs firm to link the upper body propulsion with kicks
I have a 10k tomorrow and loved these reminders for good technique to make the swim as quick as possible. Thanks!
Wonderful Tips, very important to get right guidance along with practice. Looking forward to more such technique videos. Thanks Mam ❤️

I am going to apply that tip today.
My problem of swimming freestyle is forgot to breath out when underwater. I was too focus on the rotation of my body. This video really helps me.
Thank you Stephanie, i had read your book, it was perfect, this video channel is too.
Thank you Stephanie for a great video. I learn a lot from your videos. Cheers.🥰😀🤩
Thank you for this amazing video. Great explanation and got a lot of useful insights. can you also share some points about the hand entry

Hi Stephanie, when u said " tight abs", did it mean bracing or drawing in(bring the belly button towards spine)?
Bracing is probably a better way to think about it :)
Have a good day. Thanks
You too
The fact that how straight she swam along the line was soothing to the eyes.
Thank coach now I have the perfect timing thank's to you
I love this video. You make swimming freestyle look so easy. I really want to perfect my kick rhythm . Can you do a video on the 2 beat / 6 beat kick ? 😃
That’s a great idea.
Is there anything wrong if the high elbow is not met 0:40 , versus the high elbow stroke seen at 1:34?
Do you sync your kicking rhythm with your arm stroke rhythm?
If I want to swim in more 800m distance, which is better, 3 times breath or 2 times breath?
I like the way you rotate from the core
Beautiful strokes ever seen.
She’s too smooth and fast that the water was sliced open for her, when we normally just having a small air pocket she’s got an airbag to breathe from
Thanks Steph
