Caine's greatest performance. RIP Mike Hodges. Thank you for this masterpiece. Had the privilege and pleasure to meet him back in '94 when he was filming The Healer at the Prince Charles Hospital in Merthyr. Lovely guy.
I really like how gritty and realistic this is Really gets you tuned in All these modern movies are for kids with a quick "wow" factor but then leaves you feeling like "this is a movie"
I love the slightly sad smile of Carter's when looking at the mother and children, maybe the pain of what could have been and that he has wasted his life.
I’m just old enough to remember the early 1970s as a young kid…….it really was a different world back then when everything had character including cars and buses unlike nowadays when a a lot of things lack character🙂
@@Marvin-dg8vjThey were perusing a high-end London gangster though. This kind of thing could have happened depending of the situation and those involved
I like how they focus on Carter's face when the range is banging into the mini. He's unfazed. He feels that she's no loss to this shitty world. But he doesn't rejoice.
It's not a fair comparison. Theyre supposed to take Jack back alive, which is why Eric is so annoyed with Peter. Harmonica is definitely not wanted alive at the beginning of that other classic you mention !
Glenda, one of Kinnear's women and star of the porn film that featured Carter's niece. She showed him the movie without knowing that the girl was his brother's daughter.

everywhere is the same looking now, same chain shops, bars, restaurants and architecture.
One of my favorite films ever.
this put newcastle on the map for me back in the day
Hardly realistic though for Newcastle though? It is NY in the 70s.

4:29 - “CARTER! YOUR CAR NEEDS A WASH!”
My son just watched it and couldn't belive the grim Tyneside landscape.
Yep it was grim and this movies wasn’t an exaggeration.
Girl was in the boot!!
Oh shit forgot about that detail

Saw this movie in 1971 as a sneak preview.
Your title reads like a newsflash. Was that your intention at all?
Carter !!! Ya car needs a wash !
It's reminding me of the start of Once Upon a Time in the West. These 3 fairly tough guys going up against a single far tougher guy.
It's not a fair comparison. Theyre supposed to take Jack back alive, which is why Eric is so annoyed with Peter. Harmonica is definitely not wanted alive at the beginning of that other classic you mention !
Mmm. Yes remember that scene. Similar concept. Sergio leone had a lot of influence i guess
sunglasses in wallsend?
Pissholes in the snow........
Still like to know what happened to Con after this.
He went home?
Why does Peter lose it?
Hes had enough of Carters crap.
Add 50 years to every actor in this film.
The title of this video sounds like one of a newspaper article lol.
Sting was born and grew up in Wallsend. He could have been in the area when it was filmed.
Bad guys look like members of The Move
They might look daft but they we're just as bad then as they now 😂
@@ElectronicChateau they only did to their own back then nowadays angsters have gone total and utter scum and don't care who they rob, mug, murder.
Does any one actually understand what they actually say ? I get the Gist of it but have never understood what they have said word for word !
Was 14 years old Was there on benton way watching used to sit on the ferry landing in a morning selling papers to the ship yard workers

Great movie. There is a woman locked in the boot of the car. He plays the perfect anti-hero - just as much as a gangster psycho as the men he's after.
Great realism in the shootout. Not sone overglorified wham bam action man unrealistic physics defying crap.
3 dead including the poor girl in the boot
Hi shay two dead, one gangster and the girl in the boot.
Thanks Steve, can we meet up later for coffee
Love to.
It was a empty shell
