  • This is a quick tour of Beverly Hills homes on Roxbury Drive. These three consecutive homes belonged to Lucille Ball, Jack Benny, and Peter Falk. These were the homes all 3 lived in at various times and also the last homes each star owned. Join me as I show you the homes of these 3 legendary celebrities in the quiet streets of Beverly Hills.

    I had the good fortune to see in person on separate occasions, Lucy, Jack Benny and Peter Falk.

    Of note you also walked past Jimmy Stewart's house which was on the corner opposite of Lucy's house.

    When Jack and Mary lived there the house owned by Peter Falk was owned by Gary Cooper. Directly across the street from Jack is where Jimmy Stewart lived. Jack Benny was to do a gypsy skit on his TV show and dressed up, grabbed his violin, and went into Lucy's backyard and started to play his violin. She wasn't home so he returned home only to find his back door locked. He walked to the front door just as a tour bus drove by so Jack started to play for them!

      @@FreyzelProductions The book "Sunday Nights at Seven" by Joan Benny is full of stories about Jack and Mary. It's a great read!

    Just a correction. Jack Benny didn't live in the house until his death in 1974. According to his daughter, Joan Benny, sometime in the early 1960s, Mary Livingstone persuaded him to sell the Roxbury Drive house and move to a smaller home. Jack was never happy in the new home, and always regretted his decision to sell the Roxbury Drive house. Joan Benny said that later on, she tried to buy back the Roxbury Drive house, but found it had risen so high in value that she couldn't afford it.

      I am listening to Lucille Ball’s radio show from 1964 on SiriusXM and in episode 2 she mentions to Carol Channing that she lived on Roxbury “next to Jack Benny”

    An estimate based on online monetary calculators, 250 000 USD in 1937 would be the equivalent in value of about 3.6 Million USD in 2015 (2015 being the latest year supported by the calculator) so the Jack Benny house has more than tripled in value.

    Planning a trip to walk/see Roxbury myself one of these days; I am curious if anyone still does the classic Hollywood tourist tours with a narrative anymore - it seems most of the ones that were still around a few years back have since closed due to the pandemic.

    • @FreyzelProductions
      @FreyzelProductions  2 года назад +1

      The best ones in my opinion have temporarily suspended their tours. There are still a ton of tours going on Hollywood Blvd but those are the ones with sketchy information.

    The math doesn't add up. Peter Falk's 6836 square foot house is valued at 13 Million dollars, Jack Benny's 15,000 square foot house is valued at 12.4 Million: Over twice as much floor space for half a million LESS?! Someone may be lying.

    The Lucille Ball home was gut renovated down to the studs inside and out so there was really nothing left of the original house besides the structural frame.

      @@HansDelbruck53 The house was sold and a developer is building completely new. In Beverly Hills, most buyers want brand new construction with the latest floor plans and features. A lot of these older homes had low ceilings which are not desirable today, people want 12 foot or taller ceilings. Also, the lots are more valuable than the building itself in which the new buyer can do their own home. In my native Florida, it is not uncommon to see luxury homes built in the late 1990's early 2000's to be demolished only to be replaced. One person's dream home is not another's dream. The lot is however especially ocean front lots in places like Naples or Palm Beach.

      @@kennixox262 I have been a real estate broker for 34 years. Good explanation to the people not in the business. I still feel very sad that this is being done but its all about the money and what people want in a home who can afford it. Lucy had a gorgeous home I'm sure. I have seen photos of the back yard with the pool and pool house. And saw the home in person several times. Personally, I would be happy to live in it as it was. A part of history and a part of Lucy.
