  • I'm to be honest a little bit scared of this amp.. I've had this amp for a while but havent yet to maka a video of it because... It's just to hard to operate. Getting usable tones takes forever and you can't use it like your conventional tubeamp.
Do I hate it och love it? I don't know yet but I will find out in this video.
Music in this video is from my band called "Broken Vice"
    open.spotify.com/artist/0tyyJ...
    Signal Chain:
    American Strat (Original pickups)
    Ibanez RG1570L
    Amp
    Two notes Torpedo Captor
    Avalon M5
    1176 Compressor
    Apogee Rosetta
Wall of sound plugin (Friedman 4x12 cab)

Rectifiers have this awesome effect of sounding awesome to everybody else and like something is off when you play it. You have to be a pro to make it yours.

I feel the same way. I used to think Mesa was my dream amp because my heroes used them, and they look cool. I didn't have good experience with them either. Some people say the reason is this amp is "unforgiving" or "less compressed". A long time ago I had a triple rectifier, then I sold it and got a mini rectifier. Used a Maxon 808 in front of both. I spent all day turning dials instead of jamming. Sold the mini recto also.
Then I tried a JVM and really enjoyed it. I've had it for years and its my favorite. Really easy to get a good sound. I never even tried the maxon pedal in front because it sounds great alone. Lots of fun.

Great that you're saying this because the next video im thinking of doing would be just the rectifier and jvm. See which tones they offer AND how easy they are to set up 👍. Thanks for watching and your input.

I felt the same way about the mark series. Back in June I brought a Mkv35 head. Its a good amp but its stiff and lots of eq options that leave the user turning dials all the time. Love my marshalls... plug and play

HAHAHA FOOL! You were ungrateful of the LUXURY of turning knobs and having a different sound!

  • @Bcwilderness

they are tricky to dial, active eqs and getting the bottom right, but they love to blend with a marsh, two a side :) job done

You can always test with different tubes too. the series 2 has a bias switch for 6l6 and el-34 but you can also run kt77's with the bias switch on el-34. Eurotubes makes several complete tube kits to make this amp sound any way you could want. Ive owned this amp for 20 plus years and it never ceases to amaze me at the versatility from simple tube swaps.

I have used the single rec. since it first came out. I have several high end brands and never have had issues dialing in this head. To each his own I guess. If you really want to pull your hair out buy a Mark iV. Now there is a tough one to dial in.

I feel you may need to research it a bit more. I've been running a single rec for years and find it amazing and versatile, from punk to rock to funk to blues. keeping bass and drives low, the mids of the clean/pushed mode work great. in a band mix it's beautiful, alone in a room practicing, it sounds average.

Would you like some whine with your cheese? " Ooh the EQs just interact in this weird way I just can't figure out boo-hoo" lmfao
Would you rather the EQ knobs be weak and do nothing?

Great intro, stratovarius meets yngwie. I own a triple rec, I fought with it for years, I achieved a overall good control of pick attack and technique but it would all fail when trying to sign with bends and subtleties, making me feel out of tune and nervous. I found that vht and bogner ecstasy are the right balance between Marshall sing abilities and punch. Thanks for sharing!

I've got a single rectifier and personally the only time it comes alive for me is when it's craaanked loouddd. Then it thickens and the midrange fills up, plus adding an OD to boost it up front - My gain actually never gets past ~10 o'clock... It is pretty temperamental though.

I absolutely loved the clean sounds variety, very Plexi. Your vid gave me really envy to get one.
For the rest, you have to use a boost od pedal, you can get the most of it and get rid of the mudiness.

I have a single rectifier and found that it was the amp of my dreams once I incorporated an attenuator (Two Notes captor) and a TS-style overdrive (EQD Plumes). Mesas are performance amps and sound pretty thin at low volumes. And attenuator will bring them alive at moderate volumes.

My first tube amp was a single rectifier, its a very unique amp and I always got tons of compliments on my live sound. I really regret selling it I have a triple crown 50 now and its a much more user friendly amp it has 3 channels and you literally cant get a bad sound out of it if you tried.

    Thanks for the video.
The rectifier serie of mesa boogie were made and voiced for metal music, it is shurely not the most articulate amp out there but in metal when properly set it is just and simply a beast.
Have you tried a dual rectifier with the tube rectifier option??
You would hear a big difference in the signal compression and articulation.
Personaly, im a big fan of dual rectifier for metal or aggriseve tone, but i always felt like if the single rectifier was way different.
It would be like using a fender amp to play brutal metal, you would not be able to find a good tone with it because it have not been build for that.

    • @Rohbemusic
      @Rohbemusic  4 года назад +1

Thank you! I agree with you, it is a very good amp once you know how to work the controls and use it in the right setting. I have yet to try a dual rectifier with tube rectification but I do prefer that setting on my Mark V so I guess that would work better for me! Thanks for your input!

I had a mini recto and thought the same thing: not satisfying for leads. When I down tuned the guitar to d standard though, it responded really good to leads. Sounded/felt amazing. Not so much in E standard though. Not sure if it’s similar with the big rectifiers.

I have had a Mesa Single Rectifier RectoVerb 50 combo for about 20 years. I know what you are saying about this amp. I was struggling too in the past finding "that" tone that I wanted. I would find it and love it. For me I just keep it clean and rely on pedals for subtle distortion and OD. I don't like a lot of distortion. I never touch the gain channel. No need for me. I have grown to love the amp.

    • @Rohbemusic

From your video you have the output low while your channel masters are high. Put the Output and high noon then gently bring your channel master up from zero. If you run the amp the way you have it set in the video, this amp will be terrible. You have to get the current to the output tubes!!! I have owned this amp new from 2006, These amps krank!

I have heard that it's difficult to tweak and people used an OD to have that attack. On the other hand, the Series One Single Rec is what now people are trying to get (soundwise) on the new Rectifiers. That being said, I don't understand why Mesa stopped making more of those. I have heard the Series One and it sounded amazing! Way better than the others imho :O

Turn the mids way up, the treble down, the bass way down, and turn the presence just about off. Use a tube screamer, it’s not a big deal. Also why add so much gain when it’s not adding sustain? It’s just adding noise and sucking out definition at that point.
I would also suggest that you try different guitars. My Mesa MK V: 25 sounds like a completely different amp with every guitar I own.

  • @robbo132435
    @robbo132435 4 года назад +5

What a load of bollocks, slightly difficult to dial in, yes, but thats about it. Take the crappy delay off so we can hear the amp, turn the amp up loud enough so it can be heard over the pick clicking on the strings, its not a bedroom practice amp. Nice leads but youre pulling a sterile sound out of a beast of an amp, well done
