What Lakers need last year was a 3rd consisted of a scorer and better 3-point shooting they act like Denver blew the Lakers off the court in that swept. Denver last year was a far better team across the board and yet only beat the Laker by a few points in each game in the playoffs.

AD. Without him the lakers are lost scrambling on defense because they don't have reliable rim protection. With AD it allows the defenders on the perimeter to be more aggressive in defending the three and not giving open looks form outside. When AD is not there they have to play off of shooters on other teams because without a rim protector they are more afraid if getting beat of the dribble and giving up clear layups. Even if he has a 15 point game but is consistent on defense that can be the difference maker.
That said these guys are also right that if AD does only put up 15 a night against Denver than that tropical island vacation will come early this year. AD needs to be the superstar version of AD for the lakers to have a shot of winning this.

Only the strongest 6’11” guy (not to mention competed in dunk contests, so he’s explosive) in this NBA era (not including Shaq). JaVale McGee is actually a super athletic, extremely coordinated 7’ footer. You have those guys to double Jokic with AD guarding someone he can roam off of to rim protect, sure that’s a great recipe for beating Jokic.
But the Nuggets don’t have the guy you can just not cover for AD to roam off of. And your 7 footers certainly aren’t Dwight and JaVale. It’s like when the Bears in 85 & 86 were amazing- Buddy Ryan the 46 defense--like why didn’t whomever just follow that blueprint to beat Mahomes. Or the 2001 Ravens blueprint to beat Mahomes or Brady in his 7 wins in the SB

I think they allow too many open 3s with the way they defend. Darvin Ham will need a coaching and pairing masterpiece for the Lakers to win. But yes, I believe they have a chance.
Lakers defense is underrated. They just don’t try unless Lebron seems it important. In-season tournament was a prime example. Beating the pelicans was an example. What the breakdowns from “awful coaching” on RUclips. Very eye-opening

There’s no Jokic stopper like there is no Luka stopper they play at their own pace and dictate the defense.Lakers need multiple defenders against Jokic and they don’t have that.

The truth of the matter is that you don't have to stop any of the star player(s) from scoring their points, it would be nice if you could at least slow them down a little but last time I checked, I have never seen a star player score all of his team's points in a game.
Even if they do contribute 40-50 or even 60 pts that still leaves potentially anywhere between 60-80pts that the rest of the players on the team collectively have to score to get you to a mid 120 points score and those players are the ones that you need to target and restrict how much they contribute and they are the ones AD should concentrate on trying to stop.

Anyone who watches the games knows LeBron’s defense is a MAJOR issue. He got caught slipping and ball watching several times the other night. Lakers can score, but without AD in the paint, there is ZERO defense

The Lakers were swept a year ago. Didn't manage to win a single game. Both teams were better than they are today, but Denver still has home court advantage. I don't think Denver will win in 4, but it won't get to 7 games for sure. If the Lakers are really at their best, they can take it to 6 games and that's it.
