    Even managed to get lucky with an Express van LQ4 + 2WD 4L80e here in Australia haha! Importer had the whole swap sitting on the ground not missing anything, got it for $6k AUD total which is fairly reasonable here. My dad needed a 2WD 4L80e for his LQ4 and I wanted a 6.0 for my C20 as a tow rig but I'm putting a TR4050 in it. Worked out extremely well! Got x2 5.3s for $1500 in a combo with it too. Lots of fun and learning to get to enjoy. No "not in my area" or couch sitting here! Makes me wonder what those peoples excuses are :P

    My local yard has a full size truck/van section, a small/mid size truck/SUV/van section, fullsize American cars, and an import section. I wish they broke it down in each section with subsections by brand or manufacturer, but it is pretty convenient as it is. for LS swaps you would just hit the fullsize truck/van section or if you were dead set on an L33 or something like that you would hit the midsize, etc. section. I never considered the abundance of LM7 and L59 still sitting there being due to 4WD, but that makes a ton of sense... pesky details, lol

    I'm like you, I just pick them up off Marketplace for nothing. All I need is a long block. I just picked up a Gen 4 2009 4.8 for a trade with an old MSD 6A box. Nice part is supposedly it's a 77,000 mi motor and the 4.8's at the time didn't use DOD. It doesn't even have the oil manifolds cast into the block, just like a Gen3 5.3. I put a stock 2003 4.8 I got for nothing in a '86 S10 with a T5 behind it. I used a Chinese 4bbl intake and a 590 Truck Avenger I had sitting on my bench, only major expense was a flywheel and an old MSD 6LS box to fire the ignition bought from a friend, I even cut the outlets off the stock manifolds, reclocked them and welded them back on. had nothing into it including the cost of the truck and sold it for 3 times what I had into it. I'll take every cheap LS I can put my hands on. Even the 4x4 4L60's and 4L80's can be switched to 2wd for 200 bucks total, you just need the control box. I love swapping.

    I worked for a company that used these vans for mechanical construction work, driven 300-400k miles with mostly just regular oil changes, always loaded to the max with tools, piping, fittings, hardware, these vans took their beating and kept on eating, fuel that is!

      Yeah, they generally hit the yard because they were simply replaced, or they lost reverse

    I don't have a yard that I can pull it myself, the yard here in the UP wants a fortune for 4.8s, and a 2wd 4L80 is like unobtanium. I end up buying the whole truck and parting it out.

    LOL nice try JR, we all know you can't get any LS motors anymore because they got sold immediately and are impossible to find according to everyone sitting on the couch making youtube comments right?

    I see a lot of content about using 6.0 engines out of vans. My question: how do you actually pull an engine from a van, in a junkyard?? Front, side, back? Do you pull trans attached ? ( I can't imagine how...). I looked your stuff over, might have missed it.

    I wonder what 8 lug full floater would be the best choice to swap into a squarebody 3/4? Would these vans be a good choice or a pickup rear better? Seems like the van would be coil sprung and narrower? Either one would need perches welded. Do any of the them come with a good G80 even?

    • @TheDrivewayEngineer
      @TheDrivewayEngineer  8 месяцев назад +1

    • @wtdonovan
      @wtdonovan 8 месяцев назад

      I believe I measured the '86 semi floater at about 68" WMS. 70" would be excellent. I haven't figured out if they use the same pinion length and u-joint.@@cobyfield9237

    I remember you saying something about a cheap injector upgrade in another video. I think you said they were 34 or 38# injectors and you were pulling them from cars with V6's. Can you tell me what car that was please?

      No one with an NA engine needs to upgrade injectors.
      No junkyard injector is good enough for boost.
