I know where people are coming from but I really don’t think the argument of “some people would just be so happy to have healthy eyes” is helpful to anyone. It’s the same as the argument that someone’s problem isn’t “real” if it’s what it deemed as a “first world problem”. Just because a problem or a desire isn’t based on life/death or health, doesn’t make it a less legitimate source of distress. “Because some people can’t even afford a car I shouldn’t complain about being stuck in traffic”. We only have one life and Feeling beautiful (without having to rely on “props” like lenses or makeup) is important to people. A discrepancy between how you want to look and how you do look can be terribly distressing to the point of depression. I’m not saying that brown or whatever other eye colour isn’t beautiful or that eye colour change surgery needs to take top research priority, but it’s a much more complex issue than “just be grateful for what you have”. The ability to change how we look is an aspect of bodily autonomy and should be respected.
It is just perplexing to see how something that seamingly so superficial, harmless & vain like eye color can cause some people so much distress to the point of jeopardizing their eye health & potentially cost them their eye sight for it!! It's almost as those people are more concerned about how other people see them more than how THEY can see the world! I think a wise person should be cautious about the traps of beauty industry & act WISELY when it comes to practicing their body autonomy. Or else will live very unfulfilled life full of either bitterness or regrets.
Yes it works. The issue is it will take dozens of sessions to fully go from brown to blue. Hopefully technology improves so they can remove more and do it more quickly also sucks you can only get blue/grey eyes I wanted green.
Some people do get green. It depends on what your natural unpigmented color is underneath your previous visible eyecolor. The majority of ppl have blue or grey eyes underneath, but some do in fact have blue.
I want to change just one eye and only half of 1 eye bc I've always loved heterochromia eyes! Having one eye like that while the other stays dark brown would be epic. I want to tattoo my other eyeball bright blue too 😂
fascinating, it will be a game changer in the ocular world. I am just as excited watching this space as the rest of us. I have a question for you. What do you think the future of optometry will be? whether it be world wide or in the states, Do you think they will get more broader (by that I mean in Australia we can refer patients for anti veg-f treatments, but they're considering optoms performing them to keep up with AMD) Do you think in about 10 years all we will be doing is myopia progression?
The most beautiful color eyes and less common is the emerald green or green eyes follow by sapphire blue or blue eyes, hazel and than grey, thank you for this valuable information Dr and new a new subscriber here as well.
Why permanently change to a lighter color? When light eyes are more sensitive to the sun.🤔 I'll stick to color contacts. Luv my eyes, just like to see myself differently from time to time.
The issue with lasing your iris is that some of the burned cells will stick to the iris and remain there forever. These dead cells will turn black like everything burned do and actually darken your eyes. That's why you can't actually achieve perfectly blue eyes, there's always a grey tint left in the eyes. These clinics know that and have started advertising grey-blue eyes instead.
Actually NO. There are no charred remains. It drifts out of the eyes. The grey is due to people with dark eyes base color that is your base color of the human eyes which vary in darkness much like you see in young infants, kittens etc.. Lighter eyes will always have a lighter results blue/green. People with deep dark eyes with little yellow will have grey eyes.
What are the chances of patients developing permanent high IOP from iris pigment shedding blocking the outflow from the trabecular meshwork? Yeesh this whole thing gives me the heebee geebees!
I have blue eyes and I want brown eyes or hazel, I've been upset about it because I'm half Russian half Japanese, I've felt like an outsider in my home country because of my iris color, and every time I just look at someone I feel jealous and get really upset that I will never be like everyone else. Is there a way to increase melanin in my eyes? If brown is impossible for light eyes would hazel work? I know hazel is not a common color for a east Asian country but it's common in Japan more so than blue
They make contact lenses that can change your eye color to brown or hazel while you wear them, if that's what you're after. The nice thing about this is that you have options !
The only permanent method is keratopigmentation. it's inkt in the Cornea. I had it done in Paris. I still have my hazel eyes but more subte greenish. I wish i had your eyes.
This is such an unfortunate culture that this is something people are willing to do in the sake of this illusion of beauty. And where the heck did they find the subjects for these studies or test these lasers?!
Yeah blue doesnt have any pigment but the way she said it is basic for most to understand. Sometimes blue eyes will be called “lightest brown” in the same weird way I’ve heard people refer to the color of blondes as “lightest brown of alls” its kinda bad word choice for simplicity of explaining diverse pigmentation (or lack of)
