    My grandmother made these. I watched her make them many times. She passed away in 2002. Since then I have wished I paid more attention when she cooked. Thanks to you I have made these several times, always with great success. The first time was for xmas eve. I was so proud and happy. I thought about my dear grandmother as I made them and ever time since xmas eve. Again thank you so much for letting my grandmother live a little bit again every time I make these. xoxoxo

    I’m Māori but my aunty’s husband is from Czech Republic. As a kid he would make these for us. I can still remember walking to his house after school with my brother and sister and sitting at his table and just inhaling plates of these with a big bowl of stewed onions. I miss him so much 😢

    Mooooc dekuju za vyborne video. This is the first time I've tried knedlik as I was always nervous to give it a try. Since I didn't have the Wondra flour, I mixed All purpose flour with Farina ( as someone mentioned it), it was stickier so I was adding a little more flour. I also added small squares of ciabatta (or roll) that I cut the day before. And it turned out amazing!!! Thank you, I will be checking more of your videos now on.

    But I have pretty close to Czech Republic (I'm from Gliwice in Upper Silesia, Poland) and I visit Czech as often as I can as there are three best cuisines in the world, and nothing can compare with that. Italian, Polish and Czech (in random order).

    It is so great at 04:42 that she does NOT use plastic wrap to cover the dough while it rises. There was a time (not so many years ago) that there was NO plastic wrap. Before that people simply did as she does here... they used a towel. You would have to be living on the moon to not be aware now of how bad plastic is for our environment. We all want to see change and that change can begin in small ways... Lose the plastic wrap! Thank you "Czechcookbook" for being responsible and showing us how "traditional ways" can help save the planet. (We all must do our parts).

    I like to make Karlsbad dumplings. Oh what do I say? I can speak Czech!!!! Úplně jste mě zblbla... Já vařím vynikající Karlovarské knedlíky, bez mouky, jenom rohlíky, máslo, mléko, sůl, čtyři pepře k namletí, žloutky, bílky na sníh, cibulku na másle k orestování, česnek k utření, petrželka a pažitka k nasekání, a to všechno připravuji ve fólii. Jsou VYNIKAJÍCÍ, za Českého království (Moravského markrabství a Slezského vévodství, což musím zmínit pro vlastence) se knedlíky připravovaly jako samostatné jídlo, takže žádné maso, omáčka, špenát, zelí, nic. Tedy já tyto senzační knedlíky připravuji třeba jen posypané pažitkou a přelité máslem s restovanou cibulkou.... Je to česká delikatesa...... (tschechisch, nikoliv böhmisch, musím zmínit pro vlastence).

    How do you make Wondra flour at home?
    you can create a Wondra or instant flour substitute by combining 2 cups of flour with 1 teaspoon of corn starch. Mix the ingredients together and sift through twice to aerate and loosen the flour. Use it right away, or store the mixture in a cool, dark place for future use.

    • @czechcookbook
      @czechcookbook  2 года назад

      Hm that doesn’t sound right. Wondra flour has different coarseness. You can’t change all purpose coarseness by adding corn starch. Wondra is grounded differently. It is more loose. If you look at wondra you will understand that it is completely different from all purpose flour.

    Ahoy... Question ... when rising with the oven method, you did not specify if you let your oven REACH 175 degrees or just turn it on and let oven get warm. My oven lowest setting is 200 degrees, so I did not wait until it reached 200 because I felt it could be too warm. This method also made a kind of crust on my ball of dough. Please, answer this... If I want to just let rise by normal means, is there anything else I need to do or just leave it alone in a warm room for 1-2 hours? Also, how do I know when it has risen enough? Mine are smaller than yours, and 1-2 hours is so random.Thank you for the videos.. I am learning after all these years to cook Czech food because my mom is gone and I miss her and it so much.

    • @czechcookbook
      @czechcookbook  4 года назад +1

      Dani Loves Coco Ahoj Dani, I let my oven reached 170F and turned it off. You don’t have to wait until it reaches that temperature. Slightly warm is fine. 200F might have been too much since it baked the dough little bit. You need to have the dough double in size. Just to be sure let it rise 2 hours. It won’t hurt the dough. Warm room is fine too. Doesn’t have to be oven.
