I use previous day volume profile. It works great. I trade gold oil and ES. I mark the high low of HVN and poc. I let it reject top or the bottom side and take it to the other end. If not wait for it to reject previous day poc and take it to the other end. Backrest it.
Thank you for simplified explanation of volume profile. I've been trading for a while and having a hard time grasping the volume indicator at the bottom of the chart but this topic about volume profile, the way you explain it is easy to understand.
Amazing video!! The is the clearest video I have ever seen of the volume profile!! Could you please tell about the settings of your volume profile? Thanks!!
Fantastic tutelage. Thank you. Essentially, I feel LVNs are akin to what we'd call gaps (or windows in candlestick terms) on daily or weekly/monthly charts. And gaps are areas of strong opinion; sufficient to propel price above a prior high or below a prior low. The reality is that 'gaps' occur intra-day; they are price areas where value perception shifts rapidly and with strong bullish or bearish opinion, in search of liquidity. So effectively, the same principle which identifies gaps or windows as support or resistance (and why that's so) applies to LVNs on shorter time frame, intra-day or tick charts.
Hi Aaron. Glad you are enjoying the content. Yes, the courses every few months I will add new chapters on new trading topics that will add value to it.
Clear and comprehensive explanation - thank you. One question if I may: I note that you and all other commentators/educators publishing videos on Volume Profile (VP) invariably use ‘traditional’ time based bar/candlestick charts. I use Range charts and wondered if there are any reasons why VP won’t be just as effective with these (and other non-time based charts like Point & Figure and Renko etc.) as it is with time based bar/candlestick charts? Perhaps this would make an excellent topic for your next video! ;-)
My preferred chart for day trading is tick charts and I always use session VP on those. For higher time frame analysis I use hourly/daily. But yes, VP would work with other chart types. I have used volume charts in the past, and also when I use footprint sometimes I like to use a range footprint chart for day trading.
@@PriceActionVolumeTrader Hi PAVT, thank you for the very swift reply. 👍 Interestingly, your answer puts you at odds with another 'guru' on Volume Profile (VP) who said this in answer to the exact same question: "Won’t work with range charts, there will be too much variation in the amount of volume traded per profile in my opinion. You won’t have any set variable that you’re comparing it to such as time." IMO, the difference of opinion just reflects the widely accepted notion that there is no one way - or right way - to trade the markets and what works for one person may not work for the next etc. Interestingly, I've plotted VP on a 200 Range chart (German Dax) and a proxy time based equivalent candlestick chart (30 minutes), and while the VP is similar - it's not the same. At the very least, the difference suggests to me that the settings that work well for one may not be suitable for the other. Ergo, as per my last post - a video on using VP on time based charts Vs non-time based charts (e.g. Range, P&F, Renko etc.) will add to your valuable resource on the topic and provide fresh insights that no other RUclips channels - as in literally none that I've found - currently provide. 😉
I mostly use the 2 free volume profile drawing tools they have on the left menus. Fixed Range and Anchored. From the paid VP indicators I just use the session VPs and periodic. But you can recreate them manually with the free ones.
Finding your videos very informative. Was looking at creating a heatmap chart on sierra , could you tell me will I need package 12 for this? Many Thanks.
You could apply anything. It’s all depending what works for you and your strategies. VWAP i think is the best for day trading futures and what most pros use.
So you wait until the last 2 hours to trade so the VP is formed. So daily VPs aren't useful in the early day I'm assuming. But how can I trade early? Can I use cumulative VP over the last month or more to find the HVNs and LVNs?
In the early session I use as reference the previous session/s profiles. The levels will still hold significance. So if for example market opens at 9:30am and starts dumping, and is coming to the bottom of a HVN from yesterdays session that is a key area to watch, etc.
Hello, so recently have come across your profile and I’ve been trading for about 4 years now on and off. Had some success but also had some failures. My biggest problem has been being able to spot support and resistance areas more accurately I think using the volume profile could potentially help with that but can you maybe explain how/why you may plot them the way you do?
@@PriceActionVolumeTrader in November and Dec the volume profile wasn't working because of the lack of pullbacks and I was starting to doubt myself.. this month I got my confidence back, just need to learn to hold my trades and trust my levels
Buenas tardes.
So you have to trade the edges of the HVNs. But what do you do when it makes new highs? So if I'm using a 50 day volume profile, I can see the edges of the HVNs. But how do I trade it if it makes a new high and breaks out of the 50 day VP? Since at that point there are not HVNs or LVNs.
I just released a video a few weeks ago on how I look for TP levels at ATHs. Look it up in my Educational videos playlist. With the #1 VP rule, you would have to wait for pullback to get in and then just look for new targets using the new HVNs to help manage your trades.
This was fabulous lesson thank you! Question; With Sierra Chart do you add 2 separate volume profile studies to your charts with their own session times defined within each study, or can you do this with one study and still show the day and evening session profiles separately?
a trader i know who is quite successful uses the volume profile of a whole year or even 2 years. then he marks the low volume zones. the more overlaps he finds over this long period of time, the better. do you do something similar? how far back in time does your volume profile go?
There are less orders sitting in the book. So a big buy/sell market order/s can get through more price levels. Think of it as less friction to get through. Watch this video: How Markets Move - Volume and Liquidity in Trading Using Orderflow ruclips.net/video/oC2YSZKYv7U/видео.html

Do you have a Discord handle? Would love to discuss, I've been charting w/ Volume profile for S/R on /ES and it looks pretty damn good
Hey, also interest in your use & insights of the volume profiles 🤘
This is the only strategy I use. Thank you for your teachings 💌
How is the results please?
i had viewed so many videos my basic was not clear, so thankful to you sir for the good explanation!!

Hey. I have one already in my channel. Search for “anchor volume profile”. There are 2 parts. Part 2 are the settings.

Yeah. Lvns are areas where very little volumes accumulated. Price either rejected there or went through very fast like in the formation of as gap.
Thank you for all this content btw!

What timeframe should i use to find HVNs? If i zoom all the way out, there are only a few HVNs and LVNs.
It all varies. I’ll try to make a video on this soon to clear it up.
@PriceActionVolumeTrader That would he awesome!... for now though, I only intraday trade if that makes a difference.
In crypto markets the SVP also should start at 9:30 or do i start at 00:00?
No. Crypto I would start it at the new candle open each day. One single 24 hour session each day.
thanks!!!@@PriceActionVolumeTrader
No problem

Excelente... Gracias!

What is the exact version of Volume Profile are you using?
Anchored Volume Profile Tool

Yes. Sierra has a built in option for the daily VPs to split them between regular and extended hours.
