Narrowboat cruising under Canal street, Manchester [Ep 56]
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 8 июн 2022
- This is the final day that mum joins me onboard my narrowboat for this journey, as we team up with another boat and head down the Rochdale 9 locks through Manchester city centre. We pass through the underpass at Canal Street where apparent dodging dealings happen, but we were unlucky and didn't see anything.... We made is unscathed to Castlefield Junction and then headed down the Bridgewater canal to Lymm.

Maybe my favorite episodes are when your mom is the first mate! What a treasure she is!
She sure is 😃🏴☠️
It's Mothers Day on Sunday in the UK...Watching you and your Mom makes me miss my Mom so much. You clearly have a fantastic relationship xxx I miss my Mom every single day we were best friends ❤️
Oh I’m so sorry Sue x x x
@@TheNarrowboatPirate Thank you x I miss her so much
Lovely and very supportive Mum. God Bless!
She is amazing and my dad too … he helps with all my engine, DIY jobs 😃🏴☠️❤️
Your mother is a true gem Heidi!
She is, I am so lucky - I have 2 amazing, supportive parents ❤️🏴☠️
Love all the homes along the way...large brick mansions and small cottages.
I like the buildings built to look like front of ship.
Like following you on a map seeing where you have been and are going to .Your mum is a star .
Aww she is absolutely amazing ❤️
Awww ducklings proud parents so adorable love it all 😊
Love seeing your mum cruising with you also love your back ground music
Thanks very much 😄🏴☠️
Fascinating to see the places in the North I never went to.
Aww thanks for watching 😄🏴☠️
vehicles rarely ever have beautiful views but you get them at times and rails give you better views than vehicles but nothing touches a narrowboats view!!! That is amazing!!! Wish they just landscaped all the urban stretches better and the rural sections that have structures because the views would be way better than they are!!!
Yes it’s absolutely beautiful x x 🏴☠️
Going through the cities... very interesting... love the floral design, too
Yes very quirky and different 😄🏴☠️
Ha! "an eyesore" is way nicer than what I would have said about those stupid buildings. Your mum is super. I love all of your video footage of cruising the canal, and the music, it's so peaceful. I have another sip of my wine and smile. 🙂 Swan babies, how cute. And hey Heidi, don't turn up your nose at the idea of your mum getting her own boat. I know people in their 90's here who run their own boat on Puget Sound, with tides and currents and winds. Your mum would be an excellent boat handler. I'm 74 and I drive a pickup truck and haul a 21-foot travel trailer behind me, and park it in all manner of beautiful locations. Your mum is young! Ahhh, ok, that thing on the wall is the end of a heavy wire cable ... evidently that brick wall had started to collapse, so they anchored a heavy wire cable into the ground on the other side of the wall, then ran it through the wall, and put that round thing and the two nuts on the end ... all to hold the wall up. Happens a lot. It's either a long heavy wire cable that goes into the ground or it's a spike that goes through to another wall on the other side. Given the angle of the spike and the nuts on this side, I'd say it's a wire cable going into the ground on the other side. But then, I've been known to be full of "eyesore"! ha. 🙂
That wall spike looked like a nipple 😂🤭 it’s amazing and inspiring you are towing a travel trailer round - awesome stuff ❤️
Taking you dad out too would be funny ❤
I’d love one of those flower boxes hey. So pretty ❤
Also, I think that artwork looks super cool. A drone’s eye view would be interesting. Probably not allowed though due to the residential buildings nearby hey.
🙂🐿🌈❤️
Soooooo wonderful to be able to spend time mum and daughter time. My Dad passed away nearly 23 years ago and my mum nearly 2 years ago. Luckily me and mum had lots of good memories and quality time together before dementia kicked in and we lost her. So important. Am still catching up on all Ur videos, love them as funny and informative. Thankyou and happy Christmas xx
Aww thank you and I’m so sorry for your losses ❤️
This is another lovely video, you're so lucky to still have your mum, I miss mine everyday x
Thank you! And sorry for your loss ❤️
It is wonderful to watch your trip through the city. I will never see the places you travel to and through. Love to listen to you talk. I might be boring if I were with you in these adventures and I did not do any talking😁😄😃
Me, not do any talking, now that is funny.😂🍺Bottoms Up
Cheers Rusty 😄🏴☠️
We went up the 9 about 4 years ago early on a Monday morning. As I came to the underpass lock a chap had built a fire against a pillar and was cooking up his heroin. “It’s ok mate” he said “I’ll get out of your way”. I couldn’t shift the gate and was stuck until a German tourist on an ABC hireboat came along in the opposite direction and we help each other through. Actually the drug users tend to keep themselves to themselves; it’s the drunks that are the problem!
We didn’t have any problems …. When I single handed it a few years ago from Castlefield to New Islington there was a homeless guy who helped me with the gate there …. There were no other boats and wide locks are slow on your own - it took me almost 10hrs 😂😂
Manchester looked amazing. Unrecognisable from the 80's which stick in my mind as all black and white
The painted floor was really nice. I really enjoy your videos. It's great to see your mum enjoying herself. My mom didn't live long enough to see me move onto a boat and I'm sure she would have loved it.
Awww I’m so sorry
It's been a number of years now since she passed but mom will always be missed.
Thanks Heidi.
Lymm is a lovely place and my sister lives there
Cheers Heidi 😊🥃
Hello Heidi - greetings from Poland
Negotiating those 9 wide locks underneath Manchester looked a bit scary to me. Been there before with Foxes Afloat and Narrowboat Life Unlocked. However, I clearly remember many of the buildings you passed especially Canal Street and the railway bridge with its castle towers.
Through Castlefield and onto the Bridgewater. Now I really know where you are - Stretford, Sale, Brooklands, Timperley, Altrincham and Broadheath . My "playground" as a child. The cruise to Lymm was lovely - superb memories. "Nip In The Air" is a fabulous piece of music and fitted the cruise perfectly. I shall miss your Mum very much. A smashing lady.
A fantastic video full of smiles fun and laughter. Your commentary was wonderful. Thanks so much. Stay safe please.
Aww thanks Michael, yes it was lovely having my mum onboard 😃❤️🏴☠️
The item is an old fashioned wall tie and we noticed the dolls in the background 🤣🤣
They are very naughty dolls 😂😂🏴☠️
Enjoyed seeing your mom, great person
Aww she is brilliant - thank you 😄❤️🏴☠️
Love your mum
She is an absolute star 😃🏴☠️
Love Ur videos they are keeping me going at present look forward to hearing from u soon ☺️
Awww thanks so much for watching 😃❤️🏴☠️
What a lovely trip ❤
😄🏴☠️
Still get a chuckle at the names of your songs!🤣
😂😂 I need to make some more … it’s just it’s a busy time of the year for me now so I don’t get much time 😃🎵
Your Mam is a class act... lovely and I'll miss her being on the videos with you. Don't forget to tell those naughty dolls off... they proper photobombed your video again!
Oh them naughty dolls 😂😂
That trip under the city was nasty even during the day. You girls are brave but don’t get too brave…
Nice day out and a bit educational too.
Thanks Mark 😃🏴☠️
It was nice to see your Mom. Wow I couldn’t believe all the stuff wrapped around your prop. Yuk!
Aww thanks Nancy 😄🏴☠️ yes it was awful
That artwork is for the people in high buildings. Looks like a paint spillage from ground level.
Oooh I would love to see it from high up 😃🏴☠️
Lots of fun and funky stuff to see here. Very cool
Great video.Thankyou.😊😊😊
Thanks Gary 😃🏴☠️
Do you remember the Boddingtons advert with "Gladys Allthorpe" in a gondola?. I walked past them filming that ad on the canal under queenstreet. It must have been seven or eight months later before it was on the telly. Then it all made sense... that's my claim to fame.... 😅😊
I like what your mum said "Every day's a school day. So true :)
Yes, mums are wise 😂🏴☠️
Lovely to see those old photos of you,you were a cuteypie, you still are x
😂😂 thanks Shane
@@TheNarrowboatPirate you’re very welcome x
PS. I uploaded Salty Dog Blues from this Wednesday night session. My daughter and her Mom are dancing in the video. Oh my name is Skip.

Hi Heidi it was really great to meet you and mum we love joining you each week on your adventures hopefully we will meet again soon cheers 🍻 Dave and Terri NB Home James
Awww thanks again you guys ….. we enjoyed the kraken and wine very much and it made my mums day 😃❤️🏴☠️ thank you!
Where's mine mum haha x
What a great vlog……
Aww thank you for your kind words 😃🏴☠️
Heidi. See you at Middlewich. The red spike in the wall is a very long oversize bolt to hold walls and old buildings together. You see them on old barns. Mark. NB LUCY ANN
Aww see you there 😃🏴☠️
I love your Mum, she reminds me so much of my Mum, she was a real trooper, nothing was too hard for her. Your no fuss attitude comes from your Mum I think. Bloody Nora girl, I've now learnt what dogging is from you and whatever that other word was, I just HAD to google it about what goes on under those bridges, thanks for nothing! Lol. Of course none of that nonsense goes on in New Zealand, we're much more civilized!! Haha. Cheers!
😂😂
Your great people 👌😊👍
Did your mom say those buildings were an eyesore? Lol I'm of the same opinion. It was great having her along for the couple vlogs. Miss puddin though.
Yes she did haha she is a country bumpkin and just loves old fashioned buildings 😃🏴☠️
That's crazy, I just watched a video of someone catching the men down under the bridge. Strange when you learn something new, You seem to see it all the time. definitely a strange place to go cottaging lol
😂😂😂
Your mother seems to be down to earth, and sensible. Great. 🤗🙂💟
She is fabulous 😄🏴☠️
Your mums great. 100% agree they are an eyesore, A quick tail about the Rochdale 9. I stand a little over 6foot 2 inch with a 56 inch chest. My love of a wife is just a little over 5 foot tall and is 8 stone wet through called me back on the boat after seeing a note in one of the guides and reading the warnings signs, she completed working the locks not letting me off. She was and i quote "worried about me" God love her. stay safe and have fun.
Awww bless her Tony… I have single handed them locks in the past as I use to moor in New Islington marina and a 3 hrs trip took me almost 10 hrs 😂😂 wide locks are hard with just one boat 🏴☠️
great joy. hic. cheers
Cheers 😄🥃🏴☠️
The floor graffiti/art was good. I loved doing this section a few years ago, partly because it went through an area I knew quite well, as I was a student in Manchester between 1975 and 1978. I'd had an interest in canals from an early age, and I'd hired my first narrowboat when I was in the 6th Form with a mate of mine Richard and six girls. It was a very enjoyable holiday :) I love that whole Castlefield area. Although I grew up in Liverpool, I was actually born in Sale which you cruised through in this video :)
Oh wow I bet that was a fun boat trip 😂😂 yes it’s a fab area 🏴☠️
Please quit noise shaming our Canadian geese😂🇨🇦You have “A Good Mother”, song by Jann Arden, Canadian artist.
Loved all of this - ship buildings, underpass, paint - except maybe the condoms... useful but ugly!
😂😂
Love the artwork!
The people at that marina you went past in Stretford are lovely btw 👍
Yes they are Steve x x
Your mum is the greatest! Enjoyed the urban change of pace.
She is wonderful - thank you 😄🏴☠️
At last finally binge watched all the vlogs and up to date ! Was hoping to get to Middlewich bu unfortunately need to be in Southampton on the 17th
Aww thanks so much for watching them all Tim 😂🏴☠️❤️
Howdy Heidi & mum. Manchester can be difficult to navigate and some areas it is better not to stop. Enjoyed the cruise very much. Cheers Keith Melbourne Australia.
Yes I’m so glad I’m through it 😂
I just love your mom and she is such a sweet woman, and I am so glad you have her with you.
Yes she is absolutely amazing 😃❤️🏴☠️ thank you!
It looks very cool
Yes it brightens it up a bit 😄🏴☠️
What amazing industrial architecture going under the bridges in Manchester. A sight you could only see if you are on the water.
Thank you Nic 😃🏴☠️
Heidi, I love your vdioes way down here in new Zealand. Not much chance of sailing on a narrowboat though.
Clicked on this so fast and was not disappointed great to see your take on Canal Street bring back DJ LADY HEIDI for the middlewich folk festival???!
😂😂 awww thanks for watching Robbie, that means a lot ❤️🏴☠️ I’m just DJing Lfest and Unityfest this year I’m a ‘80s/90s Anthems electro house DJ’ so doubt it will go down well at the folk & boat 😂
You can't remember her name HEIDI ! 😆
ps dropped the paint but that's cool !!
😂 I’m terrible with names …. I used to call all my students ‘love’ 😂
I think think that those lovely splotches of paint are art, I love it! I love to see colour everywhere and pride month is the best month for that!
Yes they certainly brightened up the place 😄🏴☠️🌈
As l love using primary colours ie-canal art ,that pavement was right up my street.once through Manchester the scenery was very pleasant.
Yes it brightened up the place quite a bit … quirky 😃🏴☠️
Heidi. You are just the best. You never fail to make us laugh!. Love you, love your mom. Hopefully we will meet you on the canal. Keep up the great work. LOVE IT XXX
Awww thanks so much Lisa 😃🏴☠️❤️
looks cool
😃🏴☠️
I always feel sad when company that we’ve had on board leave, it seems quiet without them somehow 🥺. We bought our boat from a boatyard in Lymm back in 2011. For Jim it was love at first sight 🙃
Yes it’s a lovely place there …. How is everything going with you Sheila ? 😃🏴☠️
Why am I left with the feeling your mum is going to end up buying a boat.🤪☺️🤗
They have a campervan for holidays 😂🏴☠️❤️
Lol I love your Mum Take care of her she's priceless.
Thank you, yes she is an absolute star ❤️🏴☠️
A bit slow in finding your channel. I did the Rochdale 9 in the mid 80's, very hard work. Back then you had to pay £16 ONE WAY. All for the joy of 9 under maintained locks lol.
Awww thanks for watching guys … give my love to Ethel 😉
Made to the end. WaterWagon came in the middle Did house tank and garden tank. 1700 gallons.
Now I have to wait for the next upload……..//is it there yetttt………….is it there yettttttttttt
😂😂
Well done Rosalind you're a star 🌟
She sure is 😃❤️🏴☠️
Your Mum is so lovely bless her 🙏🏻❤️
She is a legend ❤️😃🏴☠️
Good to see Rosie and Jim enjoying the trip.
They are so naughty 😂😂
I'm rather shocked at that. She did look to be smiling though.
Funny how you can see the industrial past around the canals in the North 👍
Yes it’s great up north 😂🏴☠️
Bye Mum, been great meeting you! "Absolute eyesore"--yes, yes, yes! Sidewalk art--I think it's lovely, Heidi. Bright and cheery and so unlike the mindless graffitti that plagues big cities. Lovely, interesting vlog, as always. Thanks.
Hahaa my mum loves all the old buildings being a country bumpkin 😂😂 The art at the lock did brighten the place up and got us talking which is what art is supposed to do I think 😃🏴☠️
City travel by boat is so cool you get to see it in a new light
It’s just very slow going 😂😂🏴☠️
Your Mum is a star Heidi, and She brings Malbec.....👍👍
😂😂 yes and yes ! 🏴☠️
You had nice ,quality time with your mom and she with you . Looks like the weather held up ok . Be well and safe .❤️

Yes she is very straight talking 😂😂 thanks for watching and your lovely comment Trish 😃🏴☠️
I got very drunk on Kracken during the queens platinum jubilee concert. By the end, Dianna Ross seemed like the best thing I’d ever seen! I can’t remember going to bed but I remember having my head down the toilet most of the night! Not sure when I’ll be able to face another tot of it but it’s damn tasty! Thanks for another great vlog. X
😂😂 you need more practise! 🏴☠️

I agree with your mum. They are an eye sore
😂😂
lovely to see your mum enjoying it all.
Aww she loved it Rick 😃🏴☠️
You brought back memories going back around 40 years. We (me, husband and kids) hired a narrowboat for a couple of weeks and part of our route took us through what I think was the only bit of the Rochdale in use at that time - from the Ashton to the Bridgewater. All through the centre of Manchester and the locks were a nightmare! From memory, in those days we had to go on a little bit of the Manchester Ship Canal (through a lock I think) to get onto the Bridgewater. BTW - someone may have dropped some cans of paint or it may have been done on purpose, but it's cheerful so who cares?
Yes it certainly brightened up the lock and was a good talking point which art is meant to be 😃 we didn’t have any problems on the Rochdale locks to be fair, however last week on the Ashton was a bit of a struggle 😂😂
a nice pie shop in lymn
Yes we got lovely cakes from there, beautiful ❤️
Hi me hearty loving your vlogs. Lovely to have your mum join you for a week. Cheers 🥂 🍷 ❤
Cheers Sheila 😂🏴☠️🥃
nice to see your mum enjoying herself
