Mariah Carey ft. Brandy - The Roof (Masterclass Edition ACAPELLA)

- Those background vocals by Brandy on Mariah Carey's The Roof are so subtle and finely placed you can barely distinguish them, but that's the beauty of her vocal stacking - the subtlety. Towards the end you can really hear Brandy's vocals and how they go so well with Mariah's.

Mariah X Brandy - Obsessed ('98 R&B Masterclass Remix)
ruclips.net/video/AtTjc89b5jU/видео.html
Brandy was handpicked by Whitney Houston to be Whitney’s protégé and she’s picked by Mariah Carey to be a part of the masterclass. Let that sink in. Brandy is not to be played with. Put some respect on my girl’s name. She’s a legend.
Did Whitney know Brandt and her brother would be involved in her death? Y’all overlook these “famous” peoples flaws because they can sing .. the devil was a talented singer also don’t be so fooled
@@imback936 go be stupid somewhere else you idiot.
@butter fingers Her brother was there in the hotel room the night she died it’s RUclips videos and it’s pictures if you do the right google search
@Christian Dixie His family knew about his involvement with Whitney.. they make excuses and cover up for him .. He treats Princess horrible and they stand by and encourage his behavior
❤️❤️❤️
I was impressed with how quick Brandy could execute Mariah’s directions. Two singing geniuses
You shouldn't have been lol
You shouldn't be. Brandy is a master vocalist herself.
This is awesome you can actually hear both singers here. Big up to Brandy on Background Vocals. The purpose and why she was chosen by Mariah (shown in session) was because she adds depth and layers to the song and has respect for the vocal arrangement. And all those saying you cant hear Brandy you failed Masterclass lol. The purpose of the Background vocals is to support, blend and lift the singer not to over power. Brandy knows this she was brought up in the church and the fact that you cant hear her, yet she is there, just shows how she has adapted to Mariah's style and tone.
If someone is saying they cant hear her, they aren't really fans of the original. Because if you know that song in and out you hear every difference in those bg vocals, and its so beautifully reimagined! Excellent job by both singers
I think people were looking for an actual feature or a verse or the hook and not just backgrounds (mostly just one harmony, not even all the layers). So they’re probably listening for brandy by herself not in the background and that’s why they can’t find her
Mariah is definitely a “Brandy” fan! Those ladies can sing!
This song was fire and still is, alot of younger generations probably don't know this exists
This is actually my favourite Mariah's song! A real masterpiece!
This song is older than me and I force my parents to listen to it all the time haha
This is a spa for the ears. So soothing.
Brand brand thank you for blessing our song roof top with your beautiful voice 👄
Bran
Brandy !
This song was the jam and Mariah never got enough credit and play time on tv or radio. Live the video too
Between Mariah’s 🎻 whistle at 2:58 and Brandy’s signature 🏃♀️🏃♀️ at 4:25 😩😩 I was screaming all through this song lol
The layering, the subtlety, the air. Wow. This is just so sumptuous.
Brandy is soooo great with the airy voice and the backing vocals just added so much emotions to my heart and at first i was so ........ bothered by the fact that she did a whistle instead of the belt but now i just LOVE to belt the D5 with it heheh it's a beautifull harmony
Agreed on the belt, it just really threw me off but I am slowly starting to prefer this version!!
Brandy should've taken that belt and harmonize to mariah whistle
Their voices blend beautifully. I'd love an official recording of them singing this as a duet beyond Masterclass.
Mariah and brandy together = straight up ROYALTY LEGENDARY status!!!!!!
The note at 4:12 is soooo good on this version 😍
It’s the best run of the entire song
This is one of those moments where I truly appreciate the softness of Mariah’s tone. Her straightforward tone from the 90s was beautiful for that time, but this evolution of her voice (since getting more sleep, and being less over booked) is my favorite.
the whistle is one of mariah's best in her entire career!
The way these two decorated voices compliment this song is genius. What a perfect mix.
This is PERFECTION 🦋
Mariah Carey she is one of the best master class teacher in vocal she started her career as a master teacher at the age of 12 on to this time of her life.
Love that their working together. I don’t understand one word their saying
I’m just beside myself right NOW!!! 😩😩😩😩😩 both are my FAVORITE FEMALE ARTISTS!!!!! 💯🥰🥰🥰🥰
This soooo beautiful 🔥❤️🔥❤️🔥❤️🔥
Beautiful. I'm speechless.
Breathtaking
now we need the 97 instrumental synced with this !
Beautiful ❤
2:56 the whistle on "everyTIME" 😭💔
Magnifique
The Violin Whistle 2:59 - 3:03 🎻😩🙆🏽♀️🙆🏽♀️🙆🏽♀️
Right! How beautiful! She literally sounds like a violin. 😩
Wow I love this!
PURRR 😍😍😍
Hermosisima Carey.🌟💗
This would be a great remake for Brandy alone. I like their voices together, but it's too muddled.
I hope mariah sees this comment... Her n B are my favorites of all time + whitney. No beyonce no nobody just gimmie brandy n mariah for the rest of my years
@@tawandapalmore9652 you didn't have to bring Beyonce in the conversation 🙄🙄
The sound quality isn’t of the highest, which is probably intentional so it doesn’t get removed by copyright. I do hope they release an official Acapella version of this tho. The vocal stands on its own.
Old Love Songs
No Stereo, Mariah Carey, Brandy
OMG WOW
So She basically (edit: tried) to turned Brandy into Kelly Price? Ooop!
Was that Brandy singing the first verse?
Yassssmammawork 🥒💪🙏🙏👊👊⚒️⚒️🥰😍🤩🥳
Wooooow 2:58 am i in heaven 😍
You know I need you badly my angel 😇
🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
💗💎
The other woman singing is kelly price
Kelly Price is not on this version
Subtitles please 🤣🤣🤣 i cannot understand a word lol..
🔥❤️😍
No justice for brandy in this song, Mariah should let her sing her more part of the song.
they blend because Brandy is not doing much … few ohhhs and aaaasss 🤦
Not true hater.
She could have lowered the key and sound less nasal (and use less melodyne) but thank you for this gift 🥳
That's what you hear during the whole song? I got Gosebumps listening to this nasality Lmao
She dodge the belt.. meh
2:58 I was looking so forward to- that’s one of my favorite notes she hits in the original. I was disappointed. The original of this is a masterpiece, it didn’t need to be redone.
She probably vocally isn’t confident or able to sing the original way
I agree, Mariah tends to use whistle notes on high belts she cannot hit anymore. However, I believe she could have successfully executed that part if she truly wanted to even in a lower key but idk why she stirs away from it.
So disappointed in this song. Brandy just sang background 🙄
all this layers became a mess to me. I would love to see Brandy's pure voice. I didnt like it at all
Do you like the original and how layered it is?
@@cameronalexander1111 the original was more clean to me. Brandy vocals are so smoothy, but Mariah put a lot of layers of her own voice. We almost does not hear Brandy
@@JefersonSantos-bt1ef I agree. My honest opinion is I prefer the original. I love the remix and hearing Brandy”s voice throughout is beautiful. I wish Brandy had got a lead vocal line or maybe Mariah could reduce her layers because at certain points it feels super busy. Overall it was a lovely experience and I’m excited to see what else Mariah has in store!
I think Brandy's vowels widens Mariah's more. In some parts, I find it unflattering. Admittedly, Mariah sounds better in the acapella moment (I still don't like the unnecessary whistle though lol) I like their voices together but idk...i wasn't too pleased lol I wish for a duet between them with a similar vibe, but a brand new song.
Ur opinion is a moment no one cares for.
I think it has less to do with Brandy’s vowels and just the thinning of Mariah’s more nasally voice. She’s giving the same approach as before, but her voice isn’t the same. Hence the unnecessary whistle to dodge the belt and the autotune on some of the runs and belts.
@@JCole-fg3rr obviously the voice is not the same. She’s NOW 52 .. the whistle is not unnecessary either as y’all keep mentioning. In fact it gave the song a live effect, not to mention the percussion instrumental right after. I think we should appreciate this with out critiquing her Sense of creating…
@@Galileavalentino her age isn’t a factor. It’s completely possible to have a healthy voice in your 50s. She just just doesn’t take care of her voice the way she should. The whistle was unnecessary and unflattering. I didn’t ask what you think, nor do I give af what you think. I’ll critique this foolishness as much as I want.
@@JCole-fg3rr and I clearly don’t give a fuck either. So why r u trying so hard to make it known? It’s your unwavering passion of trying to be hurtful for me 😂
Brandy literally has no vocals on this lol
She is all over the backgrounds perfectly matching and blending with Mariah's vocals....there are video clips of her recording her vocals for this song
She is literally singing backgrounds for the entire song.
Deaf
@@nicim3730 I think they mean she doesn’t have a lead part at any point of the song
@@WaveManMike they must not have understood that Brandy participated in Mariah's masterclass where she showcases how she vocally produced the background vocals for The Roof where the finished product of the session was new remastered background vocals for The Roof that features Brandy on the bgv vocals that Mariah produced instead of the original bgv that she produced back in 1997. He just didn't know what he was listening to without having watched the documentary prior to this video or he wouldn't have posted that comment.
