    Sing Sing is the BEST MOVIE of the year and deserves nominations in most categories. The movie was shot on 16 mm film, in 19 days, with a very small crew. The DP, Pat Scola should be nominated for an Oscar for cinematography because the visual look, the lighting, the film choice, all created the naturalistic atmosphere to tell the story. Accompanied with Bryce Dessner's score that sells the beautiful scenes and intimate facial expressions. And kudos to the director, Greg Kwedar, who allowed dialogue to be ad-libbed at times, which created the emotional essence throughout the film that tugs at your heart. The cast deserves best ensemble because 90% of the cast are the formerly incarcerated men that participated in the RTA theater program while in Sing Sing and that authenticity shines. And what can you say about Coleman Domingo.... he deserves the Oscar this year, his performance is perfectly understated, and he allows the other men to shine because this is their story. Well Done!! Also, Clarence Maclin and Paul Raci both deserve best supporting nominations. Their performances tie the strings that pull the film to its brilliance. Best movie overall in a very long time and well worth the emotional journey.

      Unfortunately it totally lost the steam, it has been in theaters since mid July but there is like zero buzz. I can see a few nominations but it's not the frontrunner like many thought few months ago. The Brutalist, Anora, Conclave... I think Sing Sing doesn't have a chance

      @@ZlatanHu.Agree, but imho it’s a bit overhyped especially in Letterboxd. It’s a great film, 4 stars to me or maybe 4.5 stars to some, but definitely not a 5.

    Excellent review mate. I think we see eye to eye on a lot of this one. Truly a wonderful film with outstanding performances and some challenging topics at the canter. Not all of it worked for me (those last 15 min I understand where you’re coming from- certainly was a choice) but I still walked away from it loving more of it than I disliked. I don’t think it should’ve won the golden lion personally - pedro has had so many better films than this but I guess they wanted to honour the legend whilst they could and Brady Corbett still got director at Venice so that something. Looking forward to discussing this film more with you in a few weeks time. 😁 hope you’re enjoying the fest. Keep up the fab content.
    Much loves
    Luke xx

    • @champreviewer5572
      @champreviewer5572 3 месяца назад +3

      I believe it will because several films in recent years films that won the Golden Lion at Venice Film Festival were nominated for Best Picture, they are Brokeback Mountain, The Shape of Water, Roma, Joker, Nomadland and last year Poor Things.

    James Earl Jones died today. Could you make his elusive Oscar video when you return from Toronto? He never won, nor was he nominated.
    About the films - I can't wait to watch them in the cinema and have an opinion. The Brutalist, Conclave and this one are the ones I am more excited about, though everyone seems to be talking about Maria and Nightb*tch.

    Can anyone please explain to me what I’m missing? Yes it was visually beautiful but it seemed like a shallow take on the topic, it seemed so amateurishly written and weirdly acted that we were constantly laughing at the film. The pacing is jumpy. The two great actresses couldn’t pull anything meaningful out of the terrible dialogue. The whole experience reminded me of watching the Room. Then I go online and see it has good reviews. Can someone please explain to me what I’m missing?

    Old story . Retold dozens of times .
    Sounds like a Netflix or Hulu or prime effort would be more fitting.
    Swinton was amazing in her earlier work ; but , she needs to do arthouse films ; not , “ mainstream “ nonsense.
    Moore is a bore .

      @singstreetcar5881 It could be a head vs heart situation. Or more people attracted by the premise and themes of death and friendship. Also Pedro has a lot of respect but has never won. It is hard to say until more people see both.

    Tip. If you curse in the first 30 seconds of the video you will get demonetized. So check your script and save the profanity for after 30 seconds at least
