I’ve just completed the initial phase for the development of a private Chess Club in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The Club will begin with 5-tables, two of which are by Drueke, while the others will be the Signature Series by The House of Staunton; the Chess Sets will be purchased from The House of Staunton, Chess Bazaar, and NoJ; three separate set-ups will be outfitted with DGT Boards and DGT Sets of BCE by NoJ, Dubrovnik by The House of Staunton, and TBD by NoJ; happily, one of our clocks will be an original Chronos with push buttons in white, while the other 4 will be DGT 3000 (natural color), DGT 3000 (limited edition wood design), and two Soviet-era clocks; while periodicals in several languages will be ordered for regular availability, our primary texts will be classics in Chess Literature and not numerous tomes on Opening Theory. Finally, a course on Chess Piece restoration will begin our Lecture Series, which will be run on a circuit basis with occasional Guest Lecturers who will appear via Skype. The Club will be an annex of the University of Pennsylvania Chess Club founded by Ezra Pound, a portrait of whom will adorn the entrance.
