Morgan is still committed to Florida and will be heading to move in the fall. She said so on Twitter spaces a few times !
Thanks for letting us all know! ❤️
@@usagtea8072 Yes Kayla is right but I'm pretty sure she said she is starting in the spring semester because she is doing the GOAT tour in the fall
I just hope she has a great college career and can enjoy gymnastics again like Katelyn Ohashi. They achieved so much, they both deserve to go out on a high note.
I think Morgan might have eligibility issues if she does the post-Olympic tour and gets paid for it. I don't know if the new NCAA rules will be in effect and whether they'll cover something like that. She may be going to Florida but confined to a "team volunteer" role like Jordyn.
@@alisont.6940 I doubt she would do anything to jeopardize her eligibility
I think it is so wrong that Becky isn‘t on the team. GB has almost no chance to be Top 3 in the Team Final and I really think that Becky would have been their only chance for an Olympic Medal.
This was also my thinking. I feel like they either want to medal or they don't. I don't see what they can come home with as a team or event finals, without Becky.
@@usagtea8072 yeah I think so, Too. Even in the AA they don‘t really have a shot and also in the other event finals I don‘t think they will have a chance to medal.
her and ellie were never going to the olympics, they spoke out against the abuse of gymnast by coaches and mad the organisation as a whole look extremely bad and theyre now holding some sort of grudge, it’s unfair but it’s what they chose to do
@@jayjones1331 Then they deserve to loose! End of story! Becky is still young and can make it in two years when all those coaches are fired for not bringing home any medals. It's as simple as that!
Pretty sure everyone feels that way. especially with the 4 slots, 3 up 3 count. you could very much use a specialist in the team finals.
I hope Morgan can recover and move forward. She is such a talent.
well now she has more time to protest and do her little Woke nonsense on social media. Buh Bye!
We're only 6 years old and we love her. Morgan is amazing !
@@YouAreMySunshine2 shut the fuck up. the privilege you must possess to think that the lives of and equal rights for minorities is 'woke nonsense'. im glad morgan has been using her platform for good rather than keeping silent on important issues. i cant say the same about your pathetic, self-centred self. like seriously, what are you doing with your life?
Why u gotta be rude as if no one would pick up on your snide remarks about Morgan I think It must be jealously I detect. And with a talented amazing beautiful young woman like Morgan I guess for u there is alot to be jealous of lol!!!
Definitely, and there's another Olympics that she can do. I hope.
They definitely left Becky off due to her speaking out about the toxic british gymnastics culture. They at the very least could have given her a specialist spot but didn't. She's a silver medalist at Worlds for god's sake. She IS their best chance at a medal and now they will get nothing.
iirc GB didn't get a specialist spot
@@shivs254 yes you’re right, no specialist spot. It’s sad though as she could have gone for an individual spot but chose to try and help GB qualify a team to Tokyo. And this is how she’s repaid :(
@@shivs254 And whose fault is that??? GB Gymnastics!!!!!
@@annew3318 so horrible
@@annew3318 trueee. She’s the only one up for a medal for GB.
I'm so bummed with Morgan. She had such a promising start to her senior career. I mean, she won the AA at her first worlds. So I really thought she was a guarantee for the Olympics. But it just seemed like she fizzled out. Everyone kept getting stronger, and I feel like she just couldn't get any better. It's a shame because I was really pulling for her.
Agreed. The poor thing couldn’t get any stronger because of her elbow injuries. She had 2 elbow surgeries in March. That’s not enough healing between March and her competing just a couple months later. I’m honestly shocked she pushed through.
her senior career started the year after an olympic year which is already a disadvantage because it's extremely difficult to stay at that level until the next olympics. the olympics being postponed for another year obviously didn't make it any easier.
but on a positive note, being world AA champion is an amazing achievement that she can forever be proud of and I'm sure she is going to do more great things in the future!
@@lpoco0006 I mean, I really like Morgan and I think she will do a lot of great things in the future. But starting your senior career after an Olympic year isn't an excuse because it's been done many times. Then with the pandemic it's not really that much of an excuse either because look at how much better Jordan Chiles got. It just sucks that her injury really has hindered her. But like I said she's going to do great things in the future
I feel the strategy that lead to her downfall was trying to increass her difficulty in the wrong places to compete against Simone Biles.
@@alexramirez9589 some gymnasts have done it (Liukin, Biles) but many others did not (Bross, Ohashi).
I'm just saying that no matter how good you are in 2017, there is NEVER a guarantee you will make the US team in 2021, especially when there are only 4 spots. the more years you train the more likely you are to get injured and that's exactly what happened
Well, it’s really sad for Morgan Hurd. The postponement of Tokyo helped some gymnasts and hindered others , Morgan is clearly one of the latter .I’m sure her heart is broken, but even if her petition was accepted she wouldn’t have qualified anyway ,sadly . So at least she didn’t receive any false hope. As for Becky downy .. I did hear that this year they Olympic team qualifications have moved to selecting the best all around gymnasts . BUT I do still think Becky should have been on the team . Her bars are out of this world and she is pretty strong on other events if she hits as well . I saw a news article saying that this is supposed to be a stark warning to whistleblowers. Pretty much everything about the is games has a weird cloud hanging over it from so many different angles . I do agree with the Gadirova twins though . They are exceptional and super solid !
Alice Kincella shouldn't be chosen.
@kopper he wasn't officially retired yet, but he hasn't represented GB in an official competition since 2018 or early 2019 because of injuries
I agree. I'm afraid Britain threw away their only chance to medal by excluding Downey from the team, as she actually would have had a chance in the UB. Without her, it will take a bloody miracle for the Brits to be among the top 3 in Tokyo
Morgan has been my favorite gymnast this quad and my biggest inspiration and I am so sad to see her Olympic dream end like this
she can always chose to go for 2024... its only 3 years away now
her olympic dream is not over until she choses too ;)
@@lm8281 it is very slim that she will go for 2024
Its unimaginable that they'd give up a legitimate shot for a medal for any longshots.
Given the history of petitions to Olympic Trials, I’m stunned that they wouldn’t allow Morgan Hurd to compete for a spot in a few weeks. The only other gymnast on the planet not named Simone Biles that’s held the title World AA Champion in the last two quads. When she she hasn’t been recovering from surgeries, she’s demonstrated consistency and mental toughness and has experience that many other gymnasts competing don’t. What would it hurt? If her performance there isn’t dramatically better than Nationals, there’s no controversy in leaving her off. But if a few weeks of training makes a big difference, and she lands in the top 6, why WOULDN’T you want to have her as an option?
Saddened for Morgan. Look forward to seeing her compete again, wherever it is. ❤️
I didn’t know about the abuse allegations in the UK. I’m so sorry even more athletes have suffered. If leaving her off the team is political…I’m out of words…my heart goes out to the Downie family.
She will do an awesome job in college gymnastics. The best of luck. No one will never take your AA gold medal away.
Meaning Morgan.
Morgan wasn't consistent so I don't see a problem here, if she was going to the trials would be unfair with others
But why can Hernandez and Memmel petition to go to trials when they arent either? Memmel only JUST came back and Hernandez is more than likely only back in gymnastics for sponsorships. Hurd was a world champ. She deserved a try
@@Fliptwisttt245 but Hernandez and Memmel are going to the trials?
@@Fliptwisttt245 were their petitions approved?? Bc as much as I love Chelsie...she's not gonna make it. And Hernandez...she was just a mess.
@@olgaszoke9241 memmel JUST said she was denied idk about Hernandez yet. I dont think memmel petitioning is even fair tbh.
@@Fliptwisttt245 I didnt know they asked also, I dont think its fair either, the US championship is to define the team and who goes to the trials, the competition is for that.
I'm very angry about Becky being left off team GB. She is really their best chance for a medal and I don't think they'll earn a medal without her there. As for Morgan, I think Tom made the right choice. Morgan could be hurt if she continues to rush back. Now she can take some time to heal up before college. She originally said she was deferring to 2022 for a chance at the 2021 world championships, but I'm not sure if that's still the case. I think Olivia Greaves' Florida scholarship was revoked because of a decrease in performance. Florida gets a lot of top elites (Leanne, Morgan, Riley, Shilese, etc)
ruclips.net/video/RtkEZGU6r04/видео.html
That really sucks for universities. These girl, let’s be honest, have only their sport as smtg to get accepted into college. They often or always are homeschooled, have pretty much no time for extra curriculars, no time for AP classes, and their only strength is the sport cuz they are not academically competitive (of course there are exceptions). Revoking a scholar is pretty bad to do, especially if she’s not permanently injured, they made her commit and now she prob won’t have any chance to be accepted into a college w/out gymnastic. I’m so sorry for her
@@ariannadesantis9966 I'm sure another school will be willing to give her a full ride, she's a very talented gymnast, it's just that their gym team might not be as strong as Florida's. I think a lot of these girls are actually finely smart too, as sports teach a lot of time management. Unfortunately a lot of gymnasts have had their scholarships at schools revoked before, like Abi Walker, Ariel Posen, etc.
I’m so bummed. I was really rooting for Morgan especially after her AA victory at her first worlds… I hope she succeeds in whatever her future holds.
Lots of people think Greaves lost her scholarship because of everything with MG Elite, but I think it has more to do with the fact that Florida wanted a second scholarship spot for the 23-24 class. The 23-24 class only replaces Richards, meaning only 1 person can be given a scholarship in her place. This spot currently belongs to Skylar Draser who verballed before the rule change (where gymnasts can't commit until after their sophomore year of high school). By taking away a scholarship (in this case Greaves), Florida will get the opportunity to recruit another gymnast on a full-ride and balance out their scholarships per class ratio a bit better. It makes sense for Florida to take away a scholarship because the team will already be stacked with Wong, Hurd, McCusker and Blakely highlighting this next season's freshmen, and DiCello, Scott and Butler for 22-23 (with Shilese coming in at an unknown year. Either this or next year). They don't necessarily need Greaves, and having another spot for 23-24 where they can take a top level gymnast instead of letting them go elsewhere will keep them at an advantage.
Wow it’s insane how many elite gymnasts are going to Florida
So UF took away her scholarship? I thought it had been Olivia's decision
Wong as in LeAnne Wong? She’s going there too? 😁
Wait, Wong is going to Florida?!?!
@@sandrajyg1999 That's what I've heard
As if GB could win any team medals, let alone a individual one
They did that as a vendetta for them speaking out
No, I was hoping for an amazing UB finals match between Becky, Sunisa and Nina! Poor girl, it's really not fair.
yes honestly Becky is pretty much the only european gymnast to challenge Nina..
There could be some Russians and Chinese in high contention, too
Becky not being on is SO stupid.
My heart fully breaking for Morgan. Such an amazing gymnast but feels like she's just lost all her confidence
the GB logic around not taking Becky is BS because they took a pommel horse specialist for men’s and he only competes 1/6 events where becky has medal worthy bars and serviceable beam. they definitely left her off because they couldn’t risk her medaling on bars and getting more attention to speak against them
Men’s and women’s gymnastics are 2 separate affairs though
@@PetsWithFurryPaws yeah, men have 6 events so it makes even less sense to take a PH specialist who can only do 1 event and put the other three up for the rest while simultaneously arguing that you couldn’t take a woman whos top scoring in the country on two of four events. If i’m not mistaken, both men’s and women’s british gymnastics are under the same governing body, so there shouldn’t be much disparity in their decision making
I think the Downie sisters are definitely being punished for speaking out. At the same time, if I were putting together a 4-person team I would definitely want all-arounders rather than specialists.
Yeah but at the end of the day is 3 up 3 count, they could have had 3 all arounders and a medal contender specialist
Let’s be honest, they will come back empty handed
But they will not win anything if the team final so it's stupid, they lost their only chance of medal.
@@sinhueherrera8984 Not to mention, only 2 gymnasts from a team get to compete for all around.
@bondo guy the gadirova sisters are great but i feel if they wanted a chance they needed one really exceptional bars worker bc that’s where they are weakest.
5x world medalist and 2017 world all around champion gymnast Morgan Hurd found her voice this year. Thank you Morgan for using your voice to explain how and that silence is compliance. You’re a leader and your voice can reach many. She has amazing talent for a gymnast. I have been a gymnast for 15 years I know talent when I see it. It is their loss and your gain. 👏 👏👏👏
It was more than just one bad meet. At the GK Classic, she also only performed on BB and FX (to avoid putting stress on her elbows and came in 11th (BB) and 10th (FX). Not horrible, but not outstanding because she'd significantly lowered her difficulty. She didn't qualify for Nationals but had her petition granted. She again only performed on BB and FX and did worse (coming last on BB after multiple falls on both nights and third from last on FX). In the end, between her injuries and poor performance, there was no way that a place at Trials can be justified.
Ahhhh. I’m sorry she won’t have a chance to try. All these young ladies have worked so hard. Sometimes the body just won’t cooperate. 🥲
The next olympics is in 3 years. If she still does go to Florida, she can do what MyKayla did and keep her skills for floor/Beam and even bars with some elite elements. That’s how MyKayla was able to make the ‘19 worlds. She kept some elite skills so she didn’t need to start absolutely over. Morgan can recover and get in good health/shape and try again if she’s willing to wait. I know it will be hard with up and coming juniors in the mix, but she can do it.
I assume Olivia isn't going to Florida anymore since her and Riley have seemed to having a falling out after leaving MG Elite and Riley speaking out against Maggie and Olivia and her family very much supporting Maggie. It's really too bad since I'm sure there is a lot of history between the two of them, but glad that they both seem happy with their new paths. I cried watching Riley perform and do well at championships and can't wait to see Olivia make her come back once she heals and which school she commits to.
I don't want to watch the Olympics any more, I have been rooting for Morgan for ages.
same here I hope she makes a comeback for 2024… you just never know. I want her to be an Olympian so bad ):
@@gabrielacontreras5571 My heart is broken. I've been rooting for her since 2017 and I was sure she would make it. She is an incredible gymnast, the Olympics being being postpone a year is what took her out.
Why?
Morgan does not deserve this. She’s a multiple time World Champion. She should get to compete!!!
I’ve loved and adored Morgan her in senior career. I was hoping she would be able to petition in. ❤️
June 9, 2021 Morgan has not competed well in a while. The Olympic trials should never be made up of what someone did in the past, only what someone is doing now. Morgan has had 6 elbow surgeries, the last in March. Clearly her lack of training and competition showed at Nationals, finishing in 26th place. The committee was right to deny her petition. I think her petition would have been considered if she would have at least finished in 10 place. I believe the top 8 woman are going to the Olympic trials.
Morgan hasn’t been consistent in years, so I don’t think it would’ve helped at all... but it’s still sad
@@winterhug4331 they chose 18 girls to move on to trials. Wasn’t top 18 because there were event specialists in there too
@@jessicalee3216 Okay, whether it is 8 ladies or 18 ladies Morgan still would not have made the Olympic trials finishing 26th. As someone else pointed out Morgan has not been consistent in years
Becky's situation does make me think there was something else going on besides her being more of a specialist. I'm under the impression that she is adequate at other events in comparison to the 4th place person they did put on the team.
Morgan on the other hand, after hearing about her injuries and what she has gone through physically to try to continue competing, personally, I wonder what her mother is thinking, what her coaches are thinking, to even let her continue gymnastics at all at this point. It seems that no one evaluates the long term cost of injuries, and the potential long term cost of re-injuring something, which happens a lot because serious injuries often leave permanent weaknesses. It's very short sighted to think the Olympic experience will be worth it to a person if later on they face serious daily pain and potentially disability as a result doing so much damage to their body for that one goal. 6 surgeries on one elbow? Has she considered she might have difficulty with daily activities in the future? In 10 years, she might be a mom, will she be able to lift her little children? load her van at Costco? I certainly hope she is OK long term, but my honest opinion is that I'm glad she is moving on from elite level training.
I'm so glad you mentioned this. Not many people look at the permanent debilitation of injuries and I feel like it is glazed over like something athletes just have to deal with. My gymnastics coach ended up having over 10 surgeries on one knee as a result of competing on an injury. She only went as far as junior elite level gymnastics before she couldn't continue. She had 4 children and wound up with her other knee being worse than the 1st because she couldn't stand on the original knee most of her life.
i think jordan chiles is the main one who benefited from the extra year, even though she already qualifies. feels bad that morgan wont be attending trials because of one bad meet
My issue is if GB wanted a team that focused on team and all arounders.. shouldn’t they have made that clear to the gymnasts?? Especially those who are great specialists🤨
i’d totally agree with team gb if they were like the us or russia and had a legit shot at the TF medals but they must realize that is a long shot. becky with her high d-score could easily make the podium with a clean routine. definitely poor decisions and poor politics.
To be honest on a bad qualifying day GB could miss out on the TF
I'd be surprised if the GB team brings home a medal. They needed Rebecca! She and her sister Elissa played a major role in qualifying the GB team to the Olympics in the first place!!! I think they knew all along that they weren't going to pick specialists and if that's true, they should have been honest about it so that the Downie sisters could go the individual route. But maybe it was indeed punishment. Either way I'm pissed!
Absolutely! . I feel it would have been to GBs and the twins BENEFIT to have a SENIOR and EXPERIENCED campaigner like Becky on the team. Surely her presence could only have helped them and not hurt them or the team. However you slice this, this was a BIG MISTAKE by the selection committee and very distasteful if they had no plan on including her on the team from the beginning.
@@aliciamcdonald7105 Yes, exactly! And you're absolutely right about Becky's experience, I hadn't even thought about that. Just another reason why she should've been on the team.
Wow! I can’t believe that Becky Downie didn’t make the Olympic team. Will be interested to see if this will be or not be UK’s mistake at the Olympics. Hoping that she will go to Worlds.
Still a big fan of Morgan, hope she will be back at the Worlds and NCAA competitions.
Awww morgan... one of the most endearing gymnast of all time
Heartbroken about Morgan, she was my first choice after Simone for the team last year. GBR has made a huge mistake, saying they haven't seen the form from Downie and that's why she wasn't chosen. 🙄 Please, we all saw those training videos, she was at her peak! And focusing on AA when their chances of a team medal are pretty slim is a joke.
I feel bad for both Morgan and Becky. But I don’t necessarily think it’s unfair. Morgan just isn’t where she needs to be for the Olympics, and if she weren’t a world medalist I think everyone would objectively agree. Becky is a little more complicated. She didn’t do well at her trials from what I’ve seen and I understand why Team GB might not want just a bar specialist on a 4 person team. But I also get how it seems wrong to leave her off if she’s so good at bars.
She gave the best UB scores out of ANY British gymnast who attended the trials. She even did this with a routine that didn’t have her highest difficulty attached to it.
It appears as if Brit Gym used Downie to qualify, then tossed her to the side when she'd served her purpose. Too bad for them she was their only legit shot at a medal...
Man I was hoping to root for her in the olympics Morgan is still amazing I hope everything works out for her.
Love Morgan, but stars were not aligned recently! She is still a strong gymnast that any college would benefit from her skills!
probably so devastating for morgan.
if the Olympics weren't postponed i think Morgan would had made the team she was so strong in 2020 😔 i hope what she said about the future on insta means that she is considering making another go at it on 2024
My heart breaks for Becky and Ellie. So much pressure put on them going to the Olympics even after her brother has passed.
so sad becky out of the gb team
I do like her gymnastics but i have always thought this past year that Morgan was past her prime. She peaked out of sync of the Olympics. Many world champions didn't do so well come the Olympics, either. The talent pool in the US is so deep that she has no chance. At least, she got her world medals. How many people can say that they do? On a different note, RM case is sadder. All the potentials, but never able to reach her peak!
I don't think Morgan had a shot to the Olympics, but I still think she should have had the opportunity to compete at trials, given that she is a former world champion and bronze medalist. It's a little unfair
100% agree that she deserves the opportunity. I don’t really understand what it hurts to have her compete and at least end on a better note? She has more than earned the opportunity based on her previous performances.
@@jbrie76 exactly!!!
@@jbrie76 Because the decision is based on how the athletes are competing NOW. Morgan had FIVE calls total at Championships. And shaky gymnastics all the way around at the last two meets. There was no way she was going to trials.
Keep your head up Morgan . Hoping for a quick recovery for you . As for the Downie sisters , keep fighting it and hope that GB gymnastics get it together for the future of the sport . 💯
I think the main reason they rejected her is unfortunately the top three Simone, Suni, and Jordan were all 4+ points ahead of the rest of the competition. I think those 3 are a lock. I think the committee is now just trying to see who fits best in the 4th spot. It’s clearly between Grace, Leanne, Jade, Kayla and Emma. And the rest will be alternates. And Riley as the last specialist.
For me, the national team could be selected by the federation but individual athletes should have the chance get a spot by their merits alone.
I think it has to do with the mg elite and Maggie Haney mess. Olivia Greaves, Ariel Posen, Zoe Gravier and Skyler Kerico were all verbally committed to colleges before the scandal. However after leaving mg, Ariel and Zoe’s scholarships to UCLA were taken away maybe in part bc of Maggie but mostly because they weren’t doing elite and weren’t really competitive anymore. As for Florida, In my opinion it is the 1 recruiting program in gymnastics. They just have so many top elites, and with Olivia not competing well this season and getting injured and dropping out of classics, I think they pulled her scholarship too. Plus it would be awkward to have both Olivia and Riley on the same team so I think they ended up having to between them. To my knowledge though Morgan is still going to Florida.
100% agree
Hey, I did miss some informations, what is the problem with taking both Olivia and Riley ? Thank you !
@@youarerien8874 same question
@@youarerien8874 Riley sued Maggie Haney for abuse (training with an injury, verbal abuse, etc.) and Olivia sided with Maggie so it would have been very awkward to have them on the same team as they aren’t very close. Olivia’s mom also called out the athletes that spoke out against Haney bashing them and saying that they are liars and if they don’t agree with Maggie’s training than it is because they just aren’t mentally strong enough.
Morgan told us in twitter spaces that yes she is going to Florida.....
I love Morgan Hurd, but this happens in sports all the time. Injuries occur at the most inopportune times to very gifted athletes like her. They're only human. As for Becky Downey, my first thought when I heard the news was they have a vendetta against because she spoke up about abuse. It's shameful they've treated her this way
They are treating Becky like Maggie Nichols
Sally Greenfield Maggie didn’t preform, well?!? What are you even talking about. I suggest you look up the results from trials. Maggie finished 6th and Gabby 7th. Maggie hit 59.350 AA after she had a terrible knee injury only a few months prior. Unfortunately, Maggie wasn’t given the extra training time leading up to the Olympics, like Gabby was. Who knows what Maggie would have looked like in another month.
Sally Greenfield Gabby finished 6th on bars at Nationals and 3rd at trials. Ashton scored 15.7 plus three times with 15.6 being her lowest score. Ashton was insanely consistent and easily outperformed Gabby on bars at both trials/nationals. Unlike Gabby I think Ashton would have actually medaled in EFs.
PS- I don’t buy the they needed someone who could do all the events when they had Simone, Laurie, and Aly on the team.
I’m excited for the second segment of the Romanian video!!!!
GHEEZ!! This is soo sad. The thing is we can feel bad about everything where Morgan is concern but the one thing we HAVE TO ACCEPT is she is definitely one of those athletes who the extra year was bad for and her injuries clearly have hampered her preparation for any real kind of competition. To believe she can get it all together for Trials, is MAYBE wishful thinking on our part and hers too I think. it may prove probably better in the end that she allows her body to heal PROPERLY without the stress of training. One thing I must add here is that not every ELITE gymnast is meant to reach the heights others would. She has had great success to this point and that might be as far as she is meant to reach. I HONESTLY believe that if you want to compete in this difficult sport over a number of years at the ELITE level then you got to be built like Simone. Sorry guys but I think that is it. She has NEVER had any injury over all these years that would have kept her from any major competition. She is powerfully built and has STAMINA to burn. We cannot ignore these facts and how much they have played a part in how LONG she has competed, while at the SAME TIME dominating the field year in year out. I would love Morgan on the team for Tokyo JUST TO SEE her Floor routine. I don't care if it gets a twelve because it is WORTH performing on the BIG STAGE. Sadly it not likely to happen and though it is a bitter pill for her and her legions of fans, it maybe for the best in the end.
LOL It's the video of Riley's bars while talking about Olivia not attending Florida for me. subtle shade
I think Morgan is gonna make a run for Paris 2024. It’s only 3 years now and not 4 years away like it typically would be. Even though she’s got this nagging elbow injury, with the right procedure, proper rest and rehabilitation, that’s something she can overcome. I think Chellsie Memmel’s comeback has shown gymnasts that injuries can be avoided and treated appropriately with the right amount of rest and less overtraining.
Maggie Haney (MG Elite) had some type of “recruiter friend” from UF and maybe there has been more concrete evidence that pits the two situations together. Not one of Maggie’s former elite students, expect for Laurie going pro, committed to any other school besides UF. That was always very suspicious to me. Just like Suni Lee committing to Auburn, where her elite coach’s brother is Auburn’s head coach.
I would love to see chellsie and Morgan continue to compete!
As far as I know (I’ve had friends commit to colleges for sports but none for gymnastics so take that how you will) - a large part of the college decision process for top athletes is just vibes or connections with people. It makes sense that Suni would be comfortable with someone she has a connection to, and same with anyone else. I don’t think it’s suspicious, it’s just part of the process.
Oh cmon they could've let Morgan compete, they let plenty of other people advance that clearly aren't going to make the team and have barely any accolades. Would've been better to just let Morgan go on to trials
i'm feeling like this American team will be more than ever all on top of Simone's back because the other members of the team are good but I'm feeling like the team in this quad is not as deadly on as in the last Olympics for example. i still think the team is gonna win but at least the team final will be a little bit more exciting to watch as the margins will be a lot shorter this time
I hope it's an exciting final and although I'm definitely pro team USA, it would be nice to see other teams that can shake things up and provide some real competition. But I'm not sure I agree with your assessment. When I look at the Russian, Chines, and British teams, they just don't compare with the difficulty and execution of the United States. While Simone definitely provides a huge advantage, I still think that a US team made up of Suni Lee, Jordan Chiles, Grace McCallum, and Mykayla Skinner (or Jade Carey, or Leanne Wong, or Riley McCusker) would still win by a pretty good margin without Simone.
I think this quad would be worse than any quads before because literally rn there’s only 3 gymnast that seems to be a lock barring any injuries. The last spot is literally being fought by at least 3-4 gymnast that would fit in anyway possible but it goes down to consistency. Leanne, kayla, grace, mykayla are literally fighting for that one spot left on the team
I actually disagree with this as I'm much more excited about the potential team this year than in Rio. The landscape of gymnastics over the past 5 years has really pushed everyone to up their game in the all around, and now more than ever, athletes have pushed themselves to accomplish more difficult skills and routines. As a whole, I feel the US national team right now currently the strongest roster of all arounders it has had in a while.

About Olivia Greaves, apparently her mother was suing Riley’s family after the Maggie Haney situation where Riley testified against her. Olivia’s mother also sued the other families who were against Haney and Riley has stated that she didn’t feel comfortable going to college gymnastics with Olivia for four years since Riley is also going to Florida with Morgan, I guess Olivia decided not to go. Look at the latest video from the Skating Lesson RUclips channel to see for yourself.
I think Morgan should have gotten a chance even though she didn’t perform as well as she liked. Tom Forster lied to the press saying that the petitions haven’t been finalized when in reality, gymnasts were told they didn’t make it to trials after the competition.
Becky was also robbed of the chance of making it to the Olympics. Likely, it was a similar situation with Maggie Nichols, Becky and Ellie have spoken out about the abuse in British Gymnastics. Because they spoke out, they weren’t picked for the team, everyone else who was picked would keep they’re mouths shut.
I know I’m probably late to the party, but why was this year only 4 to a team? Can someone let me know! I feel like not only does that hinder a strong team unless you have strong AA gymnasts, but doesn’t that also limit the amount of individual medals in event finals? I feel like individual medals have become more of a focus at recent olympics because it’s a chance for a gymnast to win more medals for themselves/their country
There was some weird dude at the FIG I think who was weirdly obsessed with shrinking team sizes. Apparantly the reasoining was to give smaller programs a better chance of getting gymnasts to the Games (by qualifying as an individual). There is a 4 person team and programs had the chance of qualifying up to 2 individuals to also compete for the country (which the USA accomplished).
So for the US, 6 gymnasts will be competing, but only the four on the team will compete in team finals and receive the team medal.
Once the weird dude was gone, they immediately changed the rules and Paris 2024 will be a five person team again.
@@Inbedwhereelese thank gawwd its going back to a 5 person team
@@Inbedwhereelese What a weird concept lol what was up with that guy?! 🥴 Thankfully it’s going back to 5. What a wild time to be a gymnast in the US - so many girls competing for 4 spots and in the time of Simone Biles, so essentially only 3 spots 😩 I wonder what the team would be if at least 5 were allowed for Tokyo. Thanks for the explanation!
@@Inbedwhereelese I whish it would go back to a 7 person teams like in Atlanta.
I don't follow gymnastics closely to know ALL the facts but this seems like a Reagan Smith kinda situation all over again. They started out SOOO Good But then....
Bars and beam seems to lag in progression compared to floor and vault. Bars has great potential to really be more innovative. Do you think that women tend to follow guys in the other 2 events (with the exception with Yurchenko), which explains why those events are so much more advanced?
Will Laurie be petitioning? I dont think she has a shot at the team but I would still be happy to see her compete at trials
Petition denied for Laurie and Chelsea...
in 2019 morgan said that she’s postponing her college entry until 2022 so she can compete at worlds 2021. she could’ve changed her mind, so i just hope she does whatever is best for her!
it’s a shame because she was top notch at american cup last year, and was an olympic hopeful for many people. the extra year didn’t benefit her, especially with those 4 elbow surgeries, but hey, that’s just how it is.
i can’t wait to watch morgan kill it in college, and i’m sure she’ll only be more amazing.
Honestly can’t say I’m shocked about Morgan. There’s so many that are better than her this year. Is Memmel competing at trials??
She is not
Nope! She didn't make it. But she said she is still going to train :)
It also sucks that there's only 4 spot for the Olympic team. Ugh!
@@Socialbug1995 oop that’s upsetting but makes sense
I will miss her artistry on floor :((
Question: who will be UF's beam lineup for 2022? I will go with Ellie Lazzari, Baumann, Riley, Sloane, Wong, and Trinity. That leaves Skaggs, Clapper, Richards, SJS, Morgan on the bench.
Vault: Sloane, Reed, Trinity, Wong, Morgan, Schoenherr. That leaves Skaggs, Lazarri, Richards, McCusker on the bench
Bars: Skaggs, Sloan, Wong, Morgan, Trinity, McCusker. That leaves Lazzari, Gallentine, Schoenherr, Richards, Clapper on the bench.
Floor: Reed, Sloan, Morgan, McCusker, Wong, Trinity. That leaves Baumann, Skaggs, Lazarri, Clapper, SJS on the bench.
One of 3 things is going to happen at UF (or some cluster f combination of the 3). Some of the national team member types go pro and do not show up OR some of the prior team members transfer (why would stand out all arounder skaggs settle for 1 event? or 3 event stars settle for 1 event? Or SJS and Clapper and Gallentine settle for no competing at all? OR there is going to be massive resentment between the world class elite freshmen and the prior team members. THERE ARE ONLY 6 SPOTS IN EACH LINEUP. Anyone who thinks this all just magically works out and all are happy is delusional.
I'm not that much into UFs current rosters, but I also think that there could be quite a few replacements once the new freshman come in. Would also be interesting to look into UCLAs as they get a few elite gymnasts as well.
However we never know how the elite freshmen will adapt to NCAA. Maybe some of them have long term injuries and decide that the time after elite would be right to get surgery? (Thinking back to Madi kocian who had surgery and also didn't compete regularly the season after) What's up with Riley's foot for example or where is Morgan now in terms of her elbow? Maybe she needs even more surgeries or simply more time to recover and get back to fully using it on all four events?
We also can't forget how different NCAA gymnastics is. It might be easier skill wise but consistency is what is needed. Maybe the Elite gymnasts will struggle with that, especially in the beginning? We never know and I think right now it's only predicting and guessing
I’m not all that surprised about Morgan she hasn’t looked the same since 2017. They could have let her go to trails, though.
It's hard to believe that journalists won't pick up the Downy situation and pick it apart and expose it for what it is. I don't think we have heard the last of this; I certainly hope not.
whats the website where you see if a gymnast is committed or not?
I would have loved to see Morgan recover and do well. It's clearly not to be... so... it's a shame, but every olympics has such sad stories. However, it's fair as far as the sport goes. It's a shame, but her health and Olympic timing... just don't match. The Downie sisters were praised to the heavens before they said negative things about the team. I hate even thinking this, but it looks rather obvious. To be sure, Becky lost her footing on her bars dismount at the trials, but her level of difficulty should still have given her a quality score.... and they know there is time left for her to get it before Tokyo. I am sorry for her... because she deserved better based on her history, experience and the number of medals she has won for GB. I truly wish they would have at least named her an alternate or something. It looks and smells mighty fishy, which makes the others who made the team feel awkward as well.
She did her best, and she’ll never have to question about going to the Olympics cause she gave it her all. (I know she didn’t get an Olympic trial invite.) (No asking What if?!) It sucks, but life has curveballs, but at least she has a full ride to University of Florida on an Athletic scholarship which is an amazing feat!!
That’s really too bad about Morgan 😞
I do go to Morgan hurds gym and she DID NOT sign a petition from what Slava said because she isn’t ready said her self she did have multiple surgery’s as known
I am so sad that Morgan did not get accepted. I really like her and she is a good gymnast. I was shocked she didn't do well at nationals. I only hope Laurie Hernandez gets picked.
I think they are rejecting specialists because they will only have 4 gymnasts per team.
Hmm.. could it have something to do with Riley going to Florida as well? And their different opinions on Haney...
I’m not sure but I think it’s probably because Olivia is injured and not as competitive as she used to be.
With all girls that are and will be attending UF, she isn’t an asset to the team. Harsh as it sounds.
What is Olivia doing now? She wasn’t at GK or Championships, does anyone know if she left WCC/is she’s been training somewhere else since the winter cup?
Cecile said she’s out of competition with a wrist injury.
I'm not commenting on the perceived justice of BD case. But just to point out that the current world UB field is *pretty* deep. Her recent execution is not great. Maybe UK's best but not quite the world's. That said, with all these hype about Suni, i think she got some deep cleaning up on her execution too. So many form breaks and very inconsistent. You never know when she's gonna fall. Just a hit or miss for her. Nothing is a lock.
When only 4 athletes are allowed on the team, it makes no sense to pick a specialist. Team success always comes before individual success and you can’t risk an injury to 1 of the 3 other gymnasts and have to depend on the specialist to perform on their weak apparatus or have a specialist that doesn’t even train on certain apparatus (does Becky Downie even train floor and vault?). Does someone know if Downie was told she can’t go the individual route? Because in 2018 team GB didn’t even qualify for team finals so she wasn’t needed then because 2019 was the year team GB was really going to qualify for the olympics. Had she gone the individual route like Carey, she could have qualified herself.
They told her to compete after her brother passed aways just to tell her at the end "oh no we only want people who can do AA"...wht is this BS?? They have no respect at all for her, and she helped qualifying GB, the coaches are a mess.
it makes sense for them to put a specialist on the team because they are not in medal contention in the aa or team final. downie was their only shot at a medal and they wanted to punish her.
They didn’t let her take the specialist route because they needed her scores to even qualify this team in 2019. Now they drop her and she’s not even named alternate? No way. It’s all effed
@@fgdh2460 just because you help your country qualify doesn’t mean you are entitled to make the Olympic team. It means you were the best gymnast at the time. Unfortunately Becky Downie doesn’t fit the format of 4 gymnasts and the team result always taking the precedence. I feel bad for her because she can medal but she isn’t entitled to make the team because she helped them qualify. 🤦♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️
@@alexisouren show the receipts that prove they punished her and not that your biased in her favor and will make excuses. It truly sucks she can’t compete because she is in the top 3 of the world on bars, but she had her chance to clinch her own spot. Unless GB gymnastics forbade her (which I don’t think she could), she could have been going to the olympics. 🤷♂️🤷♂️
Morgan Hurd and Simone Biles are the only 2 US athletes to have an AA medal from world championships this olympic cycle. I think a recent World Champion deserves a chance to recover. She’s magnificent when she’s healthy and I’m sad they denied her.
The problem is that Morgan has little/no real time to heal from multiple surgeries on joints that will take a tremendous amount of stress if she's to compete on all apparatuses. Trails are three weeks after Nationals and the Olympics are a month after that. That's a very small window for Morgan to fully heal - if she pushes herself too hard to quickly, she will cause herself permanent damage that will end her gymnastics career. And if Morgan had performed well on the apparatuses that she did do at Nationals, it might be another story (for her to be considered for a specialist spot like Reilly is), but she did very poorly. Her routines on BB and FX were very downgraded from what she usually does and not done well. She fell off the BB five times in two nights and finished last. The one spot where she really could have filled a hole in the team would be on UB but Simone has been outscoring her there and with Morgan's elbows being a mess, she very probably wouldn't be able to compete at all. As unfortunate as it is for Morgan, she's better off not pushing herself physically right now. She can take the next few months go heal and hopefully get into competitive shape for Worlds in the fall.
I'm surprised that her petition was denied. What harm is there in letting her compete at Trials. Morgan forget about Florida and go to Georgia instead.
I'm not at all. It would have been a different story if Morgan had placed well on the two apparatuses that she was able to compete on, setting herself up as a possible specialist if she wasn't recovered enough for the AA. But her floor routine was watered down and she fell multiple times both nights on the beam. She finished dead last on beam and third from last on floor. There was just no justification to push her through to trials under these circumstances. She certainly didn't earn it and she wasn't at all competitive for a team spot. It's unfortunate that her injuries kept her from competing at full strength, but this is how things played out.
Morgan is doing the Gold Over America tour this year, so I’m assuming this may make her ineligible for NCAA if she’s being compensated for it.
Morgan Hurd is Reagan Smith Jr.
Word of the week : Cheated. Morgan said she was just doing 2 events because of her elbow and would do the AA at trials. They didnt even give her that chance. ITS MORGAN HURD! i'm devastated. This makes me think Tom Forrester has already made up his mind. I think its Simone, Jordan, Suni, and possibly Grace or Riley. If not, then Riley or Kara could fill the individual spot and the other will be on the team. I'm betting MyKayla will be an alternate AGAIN because thats her curse.
As far as Becky, i'm heartbroken. Ive watched her train SO hard over the last 2 years. When her brother died, Ellie (who was #1 going into the trials) dropped out and Becky still pursued because she knew she would medal on bars. It was her dream to get back to the Olympics and British Gymnastics even held a trials just for her. Why the **** did they do that if she wasnt going to make the team? They wont medal without a Downie. Putting Amile Morgan on the team wont get them a medal. bad call.
I hope Olivia Greaves finds a NCAA home she loves. I really missed her at Championships. I wish her and Morgan all the best, even though this week has been heartbreak. Can you tell im still in the 5 stages of grief? LOL
Cheated? She went to nationals and shat the bed. If you are going to be limited, you gotta show up. She was shitty
I agree, i think the team Will be: simone, suni, jordan and emma/grace/leanne/kyla (1 0f 4), alternate: again emma/grace/leanne/kyla(3 of 4) and . Specialist: jade( floor and vault), riley( Bars and beam).
Morgan wasn't cheated, come on. Unfortunately she fell 5 times in 2 days at championships, the qualifying meet for trials. It's a stretch to ask her to be competitive enough to really be in contention in the next 3 weeks. Actually, I personally think it would do her more harm than good. Her body has taken a beating (6 surgeries on the same elbow??), and she really needs to take time to rest and get better. It's an unfortunate turn of events because 2020 was going to be her year, but the pandemic happened💔. Also Mykayla might be an alternate again, not because of a curse, but because the event she excels most at (vault) might not necessarily be needed on a team that has Simone's double pike, Jordan's possible amanar, and a third gymnast's yurchenko double. There's literally no need for another amanar/cheng tbh. The US is not weak on vault.
I wish Becky would have tried for a specialist spot like Jade did. She would have gotten it.
Morgan is a champion, even though she may not realise it😎
These young women work really hard most of the day almost everyday in preparation for tournaments and the Olympics yet they're not paid enough after spanning such a short career which doesn't make any sense at all to engage this sport because male athletes gets more pay than female athletes.
Some things in the marketing and compensation of sports should change. There should be no inequality between the sexes when it comes to sports because of gender.
Wait what? Male gymnasts get better pay than female gymnasts? Even though wag is clearly much more popular in the US than mag?? What??
The way the screwed over Becky is just abhorrent. She could have went as an individual but they used her in order to score GB a team spot at World’s which wouldn’t have happened without her. She’s their only chance at any type of medal and they would rather be petty.
As for Morgan I feel really bad for her but she’s been on a decline for a while. I think the back to back to back competitions in 2019 really messed with an injury or something because that was when the decline started, remember she was only an alternate for 2019 World’s. She is only 19. I would love for her to take a break, get healthy and try for Paris since it’s only 3 years away and because so many juniors to seniors were being pushed to go the route to Tokyo, throwing off their training plans, she may have a shot at making a 5 person team, even as a specialist.
Maybe a stupid question, but can the FIG do something about Becky not being selected? Like do they have a final say or approval for decisions or it's only the national committee that gets to decide? Because there's some iffiness to this decision that I think should be investigated. Can Becky be offered an individual spot now or is it too late cz she didn't take that route?
Hey, not a stupid question, but I don't think the FIG can interfere. Also, Becky can't get an individual spot because GB used her to qualify a team for the Olympics and it's also too late.

Gym Truth Teller (a blog) said it perfectly:
Being an Olympian is not a lifetime free pass to ” glory.”
All athletes get up in the morning and work hard. You don’t get to the Major leagues or Olympics by half-assing your training. Some gymnasts have super strength and can throw triple doubles and others use the code of points to their advantage because they know how to game the system. Working on your strengths is a perfect way to get ahead in this world and become successful but it doesn’t mean you will.
That being said just because you attempted to do this in 2008 and got hurt doesn’t mean you should get a literal free pass to a chance at Glory in an event that comes around once every 4 years. Especially when you fall on your only two events at the qualifying competition AND have the audacity to show up and swing a bar routine you admit you had never hit in training. Not even once.
You’re cute. You’re nice. Everyone loves you. You have barely been back on the scene for 2 months and you still get voted, ” The miss Congeniality ” of your sport. Congratulations but to actually have the audacity to ask for a free pass to the Qualifying competition of THE OLYMPIC GAMES after you took yourself out of the process is literally just insanity.
I think Chellsie petitioned just for the hell of it. The worst that could have happened was that it would be denied, and it was. I’m sure Chellsie would have loved to compete at trials, but I don’t think she’s mad that her petition was denied. She said herself that her comeback is just for her to have fun competing again. I don’t think she was looking for a “free pass” to the olympics. Instead, I think she petitioned just because the rules allowed her too, and she had nothing to lose. I don’t see anything wrong with that. I think she will continue training for the next few months and try for worlds in the fall. She’s not doing this to be selfish; she’s competing again to have fun and to show that age isn’t always an obstacle in this sport. She just wants to encourage others to not give up on their dreams.
@@apitt926 but if it wasnt for the Olympics then why petition to try and be apart of it? I like chellsie alot but this choice did confuse me.
@@Fliptwisttt245 Yeah true. I think she wanted to try for Tokyo so that is why she petitioned, but I don’t think she’s super distraught about her petition being denied. I think she knows that her rough night on day 2 didn’t help her case. Of course I don’t wanna speak for Chellsie, but the fact that she is back in the gym today learning new skills makes me think that her mindset is just to move on to the next thing, which could be worlds in this case.

Morgan never had UF on her bio, and i think she mentioned many times this year she is still planning to go to UF after her tour and i believe she wanted to compete in 2021 worlds but not sure if shes stepping down from competitive gymnastics, and the becky situation is definitely a vendetta, because we all know a team doesnt need 4 all arounders, and becky is great on bars and beam, she can still contribute to a really solid team score. Its obvious that they purposely left out their best chance at an olympic medal, so unfair and infuriating
Was Morgan recovering from an injury? I've seen her medal several times before covid. I'm assuming she wasn't since they did approve two petitions over being injured but not hers. Did the nerves get the best of her?
She's had several surgeries on both elbows since she last competed, the most recent being in March. That was the reason that she only competed on balance beam and floor (vault and uneven bars would have put too much stress on her body). It's a shame that she had these problems this year because they made it almost impossible for her to be competitive.
I know right? I never saw her gym posting anything till super close to the comp. then bam they started posting and I thought it seemed so rushed. She also had her mind set on a lot of current events by going to rally’s and such. I was even wondering if she was still a gymnast.
I like Alice Kinsella and all, but what in the actual F? Alice making the team over Becky is just mindblowing. It's retaliatory for her speaking out, absolutely disgusting. They made a big mistake, Becky was their best chance at a medal.
video is too short. needed to elaborate more on who is not on olympic trials roster.
i think morgan just didn’t have good routines , she didn’t have routines that suited her and flowed well w her style esp on beam shes so talented i think pressure from herself and others got to her also she did 4 for 4 and didn’t get above 100 so ig it would be unfair if they accepted her petition bc the whole point is to get above 100 in the competition right?
It has nothing to do with her routines not suiting her. She’s recovering from multiple elbow surgeries, including at least 2 surgeries in March. She just didn’t have the training time to be ready for this season. Morgan was sadly one of those cases where time was not on her side this quad.
